dude this is the best video . everyone else have videos that don’t explain step by step . and Step by step is what people are looking for . Thank you
Wow thanks good guy appreciate that man!!🙏 Happy to hear you enjoyed the video and that it was easy to follow!! 👍👍🤘🤘
Yes! I’ve gone through 5+ videos to find this! Love it!
@@ArtSomething hi I have a question can u use the same needle to shade or when ur shading do u have to use water to mix ink
BRO YESSSSSSS I WAS JUST ABOUT TO COMMENT THE SAME THING
Tip with ver.2 - When printing out the image, make the image on your computer/ipad/etc grey. So when you have the print out, and tracing over it with pen, you won't miss a line.
Pro-tip 2 - Just like with tattooing, I trace/draw my lines with a very deliberate starting and stopping point for each line. Meaning I know when I'm going to press my pen on the paper, and when I stop. Don't stop in the middle of a curved line, try to finish the line to where it meets the next line (hope that makes sense).
Thank you
And if you do stop in the middle of a curved line, start from the corner at the start of the line one more time and finish it in one stroke.
@@banditoincognito8950 it doesnt sounds good tbh
Yes totally makes sense, both tips 👏🏻
As a beginner tattoo artist, your videos have been a major help. Getting an apprenticeship can be difficult, and I don’t have time to wait to find a mentor. Thank you for all these informative videos. They make learning easy, and fun. 🥳
begginer here, i've been using the second layer doing stencils for practicing, i feel really dumb now, thank you so much you are truly a life saver
You’re totally not alone 🤣
I really appreciate what you're doing mate. I've been putting together my portfolio for a few years whilst working full time and training at night. I also have a family and I thought it wasn't fair to put my aspirations of tattooing in front of my kids welfare by getting an apprenticeship and dropping our income so I didn't know what to do. I just thought I'll keep drawing until I figure it out. My tattoo artist always helps out with questions when I ask and she said I can sit in the shop and observe any time but I thought, how much am I going to learn with a few days observing her here and there? This needs to be a full time gig in order to get good at it. I always thought doing it yourself wasn't the way to go as I thought it'd be frowned upon in the community but after watching this I've changed my mind. If you care about the standard of your work and the hygiene is on point then why does it matter? Sometimes the "rules" need to be broken. Thank you for your service as well👍
I really understand where your coming from Jimmy, it's really hard when you have a family that relies on you, so I feel you there brother!! I would absolutely take her up on that offer to come and watch and observe her work now and then, as it can help you out over all. I do agree that a full apprenticeship needs to be full time however as you know that doesn't work for everyone specially in situations like your own. Tattooing yourself is still frowned upon by the community as a whole but thats just a bunch of crap if you ask me. So many great artist came from home. I agree with you Jimmy sometimes the "rules" absolutely need to be broken. Remember its your life you do what you want and dont let anyone tell you no or that you shouldn't or whatever. If you want something bad enough make it happen. And it sounds like you are determined, patient and responsible so jump in and keep rocking!! you got this brother!! 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething Thanks for the reply and the advice pal👍 one more thing...what starter kit would you recommend getting? I did like that wireless kit you have but I can't get via your link as the seller doesn't ship to the UK.👎 Do you know of any alternative options? Cheers again👊
Not only is this guy's video useful, it's well edited. That's an art in itself.
Thank you JB really do appreciate that as the editing takes more time then id like to admit lol.🤘🙏
If you use a coloured pen with version 2 you will be less likely to miss any lines
would a blue pen work?
@@haileytrevino372 yep, as long as you can tell the difference from the original black lines
Thats not true you don't even need an ink in your pen the fact that you press on the paper leaves a mark that is easy to see.
@@freakstersoriginal9808 my point is it is much easier to see the marks with a colored ink

Thanks man , been booted from youtube and almost died from covid and then had throat surgery. Almost back to normal. Name was chris b. But thanks for all the help to get backk to it.

You’re by far the tattoo best teacher on youtube!
Just wanted to type on here how grateful I am for the knowledge you share. Making it easier to do things the safer way. Ive watched probably at least 20 of your videos over the past week while I try and learn and its been the biggest help. The best details and information put out in an easy to understand way. Thank you again! 😁
I'm just now getting into tattooing and I couldn't be more excited. Your videos are educational and very entertaining! Really dig your vibe, it feels great to have stumbled across this channel! Thanks for the great content homie!🤘
Your description is so thorough, thanks so much dude
Glad I could help you out 🤘
Love it! Do you have a video on how to do stencils of names or words? I’m curious how the words would apply with the stencil (as written? Backwards?)
Hello! Appreciate what ur doing as I tried to get a formal apprenticeship and either couldn’t find anyone or didn’t have the kind of money they were asking for upfront. I would really appreciate a video on sanitation while setting up and tattooing because I’m unsure of what steps to take with that of course gloves are a given but after that I’m at a loss 👍🏻
I have a video on my page called how to tear down and set up your work station. Just put it out yesterday 👍👍
I use to always make carbon stencils ... and the best way I found to apply them was with a deodorant stick .. something like Brut 33 worked really well ..
Thanks. That was the one part I was upset that Dave didn't include, what a legend he is though, straight to the point but says everything he needs to. Love his videos
I really dig your machine on the back of your hand,it looks absolutely awesome
Thank you Crysta really appreciate that!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for your video :) I like how quick and easy it is! I'm wondering if there is a way to reuse the carbon paper? (like using an individual piece of transfer paper purchased separately over the top)
I usually try to reuse materials and such rather than throw in land fill, whenever possible ;)
Did mir first 2 tattoos on my legs, the 2nd turned out soooo fricking good, even the stiple shading looks so pretty. Learned everything from your amazing tutorials 🥰😍 greetings from Bavaria
I use a light weight printer paper and discard the first two sheets of trace paper. Then you can trace directly onto the printer paper and never have to worry about moving your image. The lighter weight paper just helps conform to skin.
IVE BEEN USING STENCIL PAPER WRONG THIS ENTIRE TIME. Thank you so so so much for uploading this because I actually LEARNED. That just blows my mind.
No problem really glad this video could help you out!🤘🤘
I usually lay the desing straight on the ink layer and then draw the lines.. and the stencil is directly on the other side of the paper, then just cut it in shape and transfer to skin.. and you will have those two thin papers still to cover up the remaining ink on the sheet 🙂
Too save money you can put your design straight onto the ink layer and trace it. Works really well for me and i can reuse the stencil paper about 10 times before i have to throw it away due to no more ink on the ink layer. I hope this helps.
Can you explain like I’m 5 yrs old please? 😂
you are the most helpful person. So glad I found your channel. Appreciate you.
At last someone smart enough to explain correctly
Am I being stupid but aren't these the same technique only the first one you do pencil then pen and the second you only use pen and you could have the same result with just tracing paper. Not criticising just observing
I just came across the channel. I have a feeling, I’m gonna learn a lot from your stuff. Big appreciate for putting such stuff out. Lots of love. ⚡️
Glad you came across the channel and I sure hope that the channel is able to really help you out!👍👍 and no problem my friend much love back at you and yours🤘🤘
do you have a studio in home or do you work outside the home? I’m trying to figure out a set up. I personally get my tattoos done at someone’s house and I don’t mind because the work is so nice and he keeps it clean. He had mentioned he would rather work for himself and pay his own rent instead of someone else’s and I totally feel that with saving money.
I love how you explained this
Thank you your instructions are on point! been pactricing for a month now Thanks 🙏
Is any pen okay to use it is there a specific kind of pen I have blk and blue pens
Thanks! a third version, you can just trace onto the copy paper directly too. You don’t have to worry about the drawing moving
Thank you for commenting this and saving my faith in humanity 😂
I'm like ... We are missing a verrrryyyy simple option.
To be fair, the tissue paper is a bit easier to contour on the body, but I almost like the rigidity of the copy paper and making precise and controlled cuts (as opposed to wrinkles);n the stencil for contours
Dope video! My opinion only. I like option 2 bc it takes way less time but I get a crisper cleaner stencil with option 1
Yeah I like option two as well just because it’s quicker. 👍
With this pandemic I have a few drawings that I want on me but I can’t find an artist in Philadelphia that’s open!!! So I decided to get a machine and start doing it my self
Thank you for sharing your tips! Do you have any advice for small tattoos? I mean, what pen do you use in this process? I m asking you, because I usually thicken my stencil and the result on the skin is a bit different. Thanks, again!
I try to use a pen that matches the size of the lines im trying to make on my stencil.
Best channel out there
Your videos are so specific n helps alot in everyway appreciate your videos 😉
Is stencil paper the same as trace paper?
So you don’t necessarily need a stencil machine! NICEEEE
Do you have a video show how to reverse an image so that when you draw the stencil, it doesn’t come out backwards? Thank you for your time and the video!!
This guy is the best! Thanks for the info. You rock! 🤘🏻💋
Thank you ! That was helpful after watching many other videos !
Keep up the good work bro I have learn so much from u ,u dont have a clue, God bless u and thank u for all what u been doin !!!!!!$$$$$%$$"
Thanks Micheal!!! Really appreciate the support and i'm happy to hear the vids and the channel are helping you out!!! Keep at it and Keep Rocking!!! 🤘🤘👍🤘🤘
Its so easy to wach your videos. ❤
Just use a clipboard or a bulldog clip to hold everything in place, plus copy transfer straight to the copy its much thicker so can be used a few times, and last tip!! Use a coloured gel pen you can see the areas you have marked on the transfer much better, no missing small details.
You can buy two different kinds of thermal spirit paper ...one for an actual thermal fax and one with more Carbon on it for hand bombing stemcils which in my opinion is better results..btw stencil paper isn't cheap so make the stencil in the bottom corner so's not to waste the paper-l
Great advice Sean thank you brother!! 👍👍🤘
when the your tatto is done , you wipe of the tatto with the nepkin with greensoap and water on it and after that u wrap it in? sorry for my bad english hope you understand :)
For the most part that's correct. Each artist may do things a bit different as far as aftercare is concerned. But for the most part just wipe it off clean it well, apply thin layer of A&D or whatever ointment you use, then wrap it. If you are using sanidurm or something like that then the process can be a little different. I hope this answered your question. And thanks for watching its much appreciated! 🤘
Thanks for the vids. I think I've dont my best line work using you advice.. 🤘🤘
This was helpful asfffff thanks so much. You’re a lifesaver 💯
Love how he just flings the pen across the room XD
There is also a third way to do this my buddy dave I tried it you can use the same image paper and put it in the carbon and just trace the image from the same paper and it come on the back of that image you rock 🤟🏽
Literally bout to lay down my very first tat ever!!!!! Thank you for your teachings bro
Well I guess I’m a little late to this one but I hope it went well for you.
@@ArtSomething it was fun however, I need to practice more lmfao
Sooo....How did it go?
The best video i could find, thank you!
Hey Dave, I would have like you to show your method of transferring the stencil to the skin but still a quick and handy lesson with options. Thanks.
Great to read so many other peeps apreciating your skill of training. So many of us will consider you our tattoo 'Sensei' and be forever grateful🤘🙌🙌
Brooo your vids are so helpful especially being a beginner🙏
You can also use Xerox paper, you can use a carbon heavy pencil and make your own transfer coating, you can use as permanent marker over acetate .you can use vellum and a stencil cutter and a shaker (for you rebel old school people.)i like the way you come at it bro but some new artists experiment and of course some learn ddoing time.weather behind bars or doing time to stay out of trouble in your bedroom.
I don’t have access to the thermo anymore so this helps out a ton!
Good video. Thank you for explaining. I saw an other video about making the stencil papers but they were unclear.
Your welcome Sebastiaan I'm Glad it was helpful!🤘🤘
I just got my tattoo kit last week. Hit a couple fake skins already. Been watching all your videos i love them. But i have been looking everywhere for how to print a stencil on a regular printer with thermal paper. It says online you can, but i cant find a video anywhere on how to load the paper (what side, what sheets, which way). I have put the thermal in with the ink page and the stencil page behing it but the ink didnt transfer. It inly printed on it normally. Confused on that 🤔. I cant be the only one missing this info and searching for a video. None the less, amazing content bro.
I wasted my first stencil paper page because I thought the in-between layer was what the stencil needed to be printed on 😅 thanks for the clarification!
nice pen toss, good form.
thanks brotha for sharing your idea and technique
No problem 👍
Thank you sir for this very understanding video and this is going to help me out a lot .
This video really helped me! I have one question. Do you apply this stencil like a regular stencil? Thank you?
Absolutely perfect guild thanks man👌👍🏾
I'm shook there was an ad of a guy and he said"wanna start a band Christina?"and I said out loud "uhh ya?" Lmao
HAHA damn adds lol!!
Your vids are soooooo helpful I love it ❤️
Thank you Evan!! IM glad your enjoying the vids!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
ive done everything right however my carbon paper wont transfer like... the blue lines. theres very faint if any light blue lines. what do i do
Hey boss awesome tips. Appreciate you. As I'm a starting out tattoo artist. I have a question along these two methods of stenciling. Which one comes out the better results?
Straight to the point thanks
Thank you! My thermal printer broke and I was losing my shit about what to do for my clients the rest of this week. THANK YOU
Thank you so much for posting this!!!:)
do you apply this stencil directly onto the skin as you demonstrate in your video: how to apply a stencil? Or do I have to run it through a thermal machine or printer? very new to all this, just trying to figure it out. thanks man! awesome videos!
Yes you can apply it to the skin and no you dont need to run it through anything at that point. Just put some stencil stuff on the skin and put the stencil on hold down for a little bit and peal the stencil off and you should be good to go. Thank you Joel for watching appreciate it!! 🤘🤘
You could’ve used the print out first as the first stencil... then Use the version number 1 as back up...
This is gonna sound like a stupid question but do you need to use a certain colour pen when tracing?
I absolutely love your videos I'm training to tattoo and your videos help so much!!!
No you dont need any specific color pen or type of pen. And thank you Sophie im happy to hear the videos are helping!! 🤘🤘
This doesn't relate to this video but I'm watching someone tattoo at the moment on RUclips and he did a bold black lining over the whole tattoo and went in with colour. I was wondering if once you do the colour you can go over the black with the colour and it'll be fine or will you see the colour over the black? If that makes sense haha
I am really appreciated that you share all your knowledge with us. is it possible to decrease background music volume in your next videos? Sometime it makes kind a harder to hear you for non-native English speaker.
First I felt I could trust ya cause of the beard... then I saw my corps being repped in the background. Solid sub from me 🙏🏽
HAHA thank you Damon that was funny but im happy to hear you can trust me. And thank you so much for the support!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething absolutely! Appreciate your work, brudda. Semper!
What is the type of paper you use. I can see you use Spirit, but do you use the “classic free hand” or the “classic thermal”? And what is the difference?
thank you so much for your videos! It's so informative and well explained.
Glad it was helpful Lucy!! And thanks for watching its much appreciated!! 🤘🤘
Can I prepare a stencil the day/night before a session or will it dry out and be unusable the next day?
Love your vids btw man. You've been a ton of help
Yes you can prep a stencil the night before just make sure it doesnt get wet or anything. Just keep it in a dry area.
When I first learned I printed out a stencil flipped it over traced it many times with a bic pen over my phone white screen shot on the brightest light setting lol
in order to create a stencil , do you ACTUALLY NEED a thermal printer to print the image you want out , or can you use a regular printer and then just trace over it on the stencil sheets then apply it to the skin ? i’m new to all of this tattoo stuff
No you dont need a thermal printer you can do it just like I did it in the video. Print what you want to tattoo or draw what you want to tattoo then trace it onto the stencil paper and apply to the skin.
Hey man I really appreciate your videos they've been helping a lot, I've got some decent carbon paper but when I try and transfer the design onto some Reelskin it's either smudged as hell or so faded it disappears with the first wipe. Could you give any pointers on actually transferring onto skin or fake skin? I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for all the great work
Edit: just saw your relevant video
Thats cool to hear you found the video you needed to answer the question!! 👍👍👍
And thanks for watching Patrick its always appreciated man!! 🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething thanks again, I know you've been seeing this a lot in the comments (cause it's true) but you're honestly such a helpful source of inspiration, your lining video transformed my technique/results from just a short video, and you do all this free of charge off your own back. You're a breath of fresh air in what is otherwise a very competitive and closed off industry
What’s your favorite go to pen(s)/pen brand(s) for tracing to transfer? And do you have any pointers for pens and surfaces? I got a new pen today but haven’t tested it just yet, but regular ball point pens, 1 I’m finding myself having to use a bit of pressure and 2 they’re not as fine and as neat as I’d like because I’m having to make multiple passes (could also be the trxfer paper, haven’t tested that theory yet either). I got a zebra F301 hoping the tip would be fine enough
You know i never really thought that hard about to be honest. I usually just use a ball point pen and push down kinda hard. But for the most part I use a thermofax to make my stencils. I will doing a video on what I use and how to use it in the future. Thanks for watching Sourpatch I appreciate you and I hope this helps.👍👍
I have same issues
@@fluke808state4 zebra pens, 💯 I’ve been tattooing 2 years now, almost 1 in a shop and I love the zebra pens for stencils, but I use a thermal printer 99.9% of the time so it’s easier on my hands
Should i try and keep the weight of my hands and fingers off the paper? I seen where the pen is shaping the tattoo so was kinda curious if too much weight was applied the ink would transfer and leave spots? I probably worded this bad but i’m trying to explain what my brain is picturing.
Good question. I cant say that I have ever had any issues with to much weight applied to the paper causing any unwanted ink to transfer. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and supporting the channel. 🤘
@@ArtSomething Thanks! Tried my first one last night! Have a great day
I've pressed down firmly, for some reason my stencil always comes out very light. I have spirit paper so I'm wondering what that is? Is there a special pen you might recommend?
I Love Your Videos!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Lydia I really appreciate that👍🤘🙏
Question do we have to do the stecil just befor using it on the client? Or can we make it couple of hours before and use it later?
Your videoss are so helpful thank youuu
I always just used paper a blue bic pen and speed stick. Always worked for me I just started using transfer paper o.O
I trace on the actual print..so i can still use the carbon paper for smaller designs
Thats a great point! Lord knows everything cost money so saving a little carbon paper here and there defiantly adds up. Thanks for sharing that 👍
Trace it once is the way to go
Thank you 🙏🏼 keep up the great work
No problem Briggitt happy to help and thank you for the support!! 🤘🤘

My coach told me to use hvs paper over the blue papper in stencil paper. They say u can use 2 times if using HVS paper.
