I'm autistic. I can't bear the pretense that something is, that isn't.

And yet male Goths never self-identified as the opposite sex, they just enjoyed wearing the makeup. I do feel for Gen Z not getting into music the way we did as Gen X. It’s a great way to express adolescent emotions and you can dump a band you no longer like easier than getting body parts back. PS I need Andrew to interview Az again, both in goth gear 😂

Doesn't come in Andrew's size, I'm surprised he can play tennis.

Autogynephiliacs aren't autistic. Some of the kids are autistic...but

Agreed. This is a massive factor that isn’t talked about enough. Sadly it seems teenagers with autism will link into their content as part of a wider ideology.

You can be AGP and autistic as well.

Autistic people can have a hard time regulating their emotions when triggered. What the trigger is varies from person to person

I have mild autism, and used to be a TRA. And now I still have mild autism, and am very much NOT. 😛 I think this is an interesting discussion! And I think one part of this that is definitely impacted by the autism, for me? Because it DOES make me think in more “either-or” terms? Was, I was either going to be ALL the way for this whole thing, and completely believe in it, and rigidly adhere to its rules, or I was going to be ALL the way vehemently AGAINST it. And be one of those Ultras who refuse to go along with ANY of it. Of course that whole switch did not happen overnight, and I DID go through more intermediary stages a well, because deprogramming from this whole thing takes TIME. Especially due to all the fear + guilt, “you are an awful person if you even QUESTION any of this!”, defense mechanisms that are built into the belief system itself. But I was realistically never going to STAY in that middle ground / GC lite place. Because in my mind..? It makes NO sense whatsoever, and is completely incoherent! If you don’t think men can be women, then why would you ever call any of them “she”, or vice versa? And if you don’t think “trans” is a real and inherent thing, then why would you ever talk about “trans people”, which only helps further perpetuate this dangerous lie / cultural construct? And I mean, not that you have to be autistic to think this way! There are also lots of AWESOME neurotypical hardliners, who I very much appreciate and respect! But I will say, the “either or” thing, as far as this stuff goes, definitely comes much more NATURALLY to my brain, exactly because it functions the way it does. Which I’m entirely freaking cool with, and in this case, I think it’s a huge ADVANTAGE! Plus I really wish more neurotypical people valued consistency, as well. And understood how LANGUAGE is bound to influence people’s perception and experienced reality, be it for better or for worse. I 100% think us Ultras are RIGHT on this one! 🙂 Plus also, being fully consistent, staying true to one’s values and understanding of reality, and NOT selling out one’s principles, just feels SO much better on a personal level, too!!! At least if you’re me, anyhow. 😛
Anyway, yeah… Back when I was a TRA, and I DID do the fake pronouns, I was also very much of the persuasion that that was super important, and the only right and righteous thing to do! (Although thankfully, I never disowned people for disagreeing with me.) Plus my brain likes clear rules that make sense to it, and it was like: “here, THESE are the rules you can easily follow to be a good person! So OF COURSE you want to follow them!” Plus it also gives you that feeling of: “here is a social game I can easily MASTER! This feels good to me, as a lifelong weird, socially awkward outsider!” I remember being quite proud and satisfied about how easily I took to it, when I started doing the fake pronouns, and the whole shebang… At which point, I did not see the harms of it, and did not realize I was actively WARPING my own perception, and divorcing myself from reality, in a really harmful way! And in fact, I did not get fully get it until I decided to finally completely STOP using the fake language, after I’d already (mostly) peaked. At which point, it was like the fog further lifted from my brain, and the remaining scales came off my eyes, and it was like: “OMG, I’m just FULLY back in reality now! That’s beautiful!!” Which is another reason why I will NEVER use the fake language, ever again. Because now I know what it did to me, and how much it WARPED me. And I reject it. At least the way my brain functions..? There is no way to occasionally call men “she”, or women “he”, without it also making me NOT quite see them as what they are! Because I have a rather literal take on / experience with language, and I’m just generally SENSITIVE to language manipulation!
I don’t know what it’s like to be neurotypical, or to have any other brain than mine. But I decidedly think the fake language is bad for neurotypicals, too! And that it also warps THEIR perceptions! I imagine POSSIBLY autistic people are even more vulnerable to it, though. Exactly because we tend to think more literally. However, a HUGE amount of the TRAs and trans identifying people are also autistic! Which is why neurotypical GCs SHOULD care about how our brains work, if you want to help us recover from this stuff! And now you know that playing along with it, and doing the fake language, etc..? Is something that helps unmoor autistic people from reality, even further! Likely even more so than with NTs! So now, with that knowledge in mind, do you want to contribute to it..? I hope not!! And there is my ASD Ultra + former TRA argument for you. 😉😛👍
