Thank you for another great costuming video, Scott. I'm actually using the same undershell idea for a latex Batman cowl to breathe new life into it. However, the spandex cowl idea might work for an TaS/comic-accurate cape and cowl...
It's the same methodology: using the ridges and lines of the undershell to shape the face of the latex mask. I haven't glued it in place yet, though, because I'm a little weary. I don't want to ruin the cowl.
Mr.Bayles is a very good costumer and very talented ,I'm learning a lot how to use my sewing machine. Keep up the work you do for him who loved you first.YOU the MAN.
could you please do a video making a spandex bat cowl? I would love to see how you attach/make the ears. I do a batman cosplay and I do the comic style. Would love to make a Cloth/Spandex bat cowl just have no idea how to make and attach the ears
I haven't tried that yet, but my first thought would be to either do ears like the 1966 Batman where they come up from the side, or chat them out of foam and cover them with spandex.
I found a vid with a guy doing something like this but with fabric and nothing else, you could change that fabric to spandex and do something like he does here. I was thinking of doing the same thing since its more simple to make to fit on your head then rubber.
Good tutorial. Please use breathing protection and really good ventilation when using spray adhesives. I got a chemical pneumonia in college from using them without protection.
I am so happy to of found your videos Scott. My son wanted to be the flash this year for Halloween and you've been my saving grace. Both this and the spandex bodysuit videos saved the day! Great step by step instructions and it was a bonus that you even had the same sewing machine as me. Thanks so much!!
Seeing this tutorial you just proved to me that one of my old ideas would work perfectly. Using a Captain America pepakura template for the skull cap and eye shape it looks like this may still work exactly like yours has
I have a suggestion for a vid. Use this technique to make a pleather Batman cowl. Not sure the best way to do the ears but I think an actual pleather cowl to go with the pleather boots, pants gloves and cape would look much more uniform than the plastidip covered latex one. Plus you'd not need the silly looking head sock and the cowl would look more like the comics when you slide it up to reveal your face.
I´m making a Daredevil cosplay, and this method fits so well, literally the mask you make in the video is a perfect example to me, I´m considering even not to make the holes for the eyes to give that effect that "I´m blind, so anyway i don´t need it to be see-trough"
If you turn the fabric inside out and press it onto the under eye , then stretch a roll the fabric back over it u have less trouble gluing the fabric on
Love your videos! thank you for all this! I saw that you did a segment on boots. Have you considered trying to make gloves? Gauntlet gloves or standard wrist gloves? Those are tricky to come by. But would be so awesome to see your approach. Thanks again!
Thank you! My 10 y/o niece and I are inventing her own superhero outfit, and she really wanted a cowl. Gonna have to try and shrink it down a bit to fit her kid head...
NinjaTheWizzard I'd either use foam that I've shaped or make just the ears from a pepakura pattern and harden the paper or card using any one of the many methods for hardening pepakura projects.
So, I have a Flash costume, but I'm planning on making different versions-Brightest Day (Blue Flash), not sure what else. I had a gal help my with the current Flash and we did the same thing as you. Not sure IF I'll be using her again, she's just a "drive" to get to. Also, my son is EVENTUALLY cosplaying as Reverse Flash (his fav color is Yellow, soo). We haven't made HIS mask yet, so this will help! It's good to know there are other Christians cosplaying besides me...Thanks for sharing this and God Bless!
Hi Scott I wanted to ask you have you thought of making a costume company for your talent or tried getting a job in movie industry because You have a talent that you should have your own cosplay costume store your good at what you do. keep up the good .
+Scott Bayles (Creative Costuming) thanks to your video i am out at the store getting what i need for this build. i got the bat mask and i have everything else i need. i am going to be making the flash from thecartoons
Scott Bayles hey dude can you do the tutorial on how to make a superhero belt and add a link to the templates in the description for me so I can make a utility belt for my sidekick Robin the boy wonder
For this tutorial, say I wanted to create a spandex cowl where there isn’t any eye holes, instead one giant visor piece attached to the mask? How would I achieve this?
I would use a batman mask as the under-shell, but instead of covering it completely like the tutorial, make the eye holes prior to gluing it down and hem them in. You'll also want to be careful to avoid getting spray glue around the eye area.
that's awesome. I tried the same with spider man a few years ago but I had test so my mom got the fabric and she bought a sparkly one. that too a two way stretch. still thinking what to do with it lol
I love your videos! Can you make a Green Hornet mask like the one in the 60's TV series? Where it looks like hard plastic and fits around your ears like eyeglasses?
Thanks for the video tutorial. I really learned a lot! How do you do the open mouth part for Captain America because the Flash open mouth are not curved like the Captain's and I have a big head how much % should I enlarge. Thanks again.
Can you do a tutorial on your Batman gloves? And a tutorial with a Batman mask but in this style. I can’t find a way to make the Batman ears stay on the spandex fabric.
and I'm trying to make batman gauntlets and gloves so my problem is is that the right size for the glove and attaching them to the gauntlet but the the material of the blades I'm thinking crafting foam
definitely using this for my batgirl and classic Hawkeye cowl! your tutorials are amazing!
I'm gonna use this to make my own daredevil costume
Jacob Peterson I’m Gunna Use This To Make My Own X-Lectro Costume
I would love to see how yours turns out for DD!
Same here my dude
Pics? Cuz same?
Literally PLEASE show the costume if u made it bc that’s the reason I’m watching this video
Scott thank you so much for these tutrorials without you I'd be lost so thanks again and God Bless
Thank you for another great costuming video, Scott. I'm actually using the same undershell idea for a latex Batman cowl to breathe new life into it. However, the spandex cowl idea might work for an TaS/comic-accurate cape and cowl...
That's cool. I'd love to see how you use the undershell under a latex cow.
It's the same methodology: using the ridges and lines of the undershell to shape the face of the latex mask. I haven't glued it in place yet, though, because I'm a little weary. I don't want to ruin the cowl.
Am new at this 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

By far the best DIY's I've seen with building costumes thank you so much for what you do ... God Bless
This is PERFECT for my Vision cosplay :) I can paint on the details and blend into my face with latex
That Flash cowl looks dope. I plan on making a 1970s Batman costume
Wow! I've never seen a fabric cowl look so good!! awesome job!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm making a Flash costume for my five-year-old and this pattern (reduced by 20%) worked perfectly.
This was a really good video.
Great idea using the mask as a face shell.
Thanks!
Scott Bayles if I were to use this for batman, how would I make the ears?
@@Daisy_RabbitI would get some epoxy-sculpt and sculpt the ears on the face shell. then put fabric over that. it should like one uninformed look.
Thx for posting now I can finally start getting to work at making my U.S. Agent cosplay :D
I'm going to try and do wolverine's first appearance cowl with this tutorial.
Good tutorial. Please use breathing protection and really good ventilation when using spray adhesives. I got a chemical pneumonia in college from using them without protection.
This is so cool. I'm going to do my 66 batman Cowl this way. Thanks for the DIY vid.
I'm thinking about using this technique for my Batman spandex mask/hooded cape
BoyWonder 752 he made a video on how to make the Cape/hood
I want to do the same!
DUDE THANKS!! that lightning bolt stitch trick just solved me a lifetime of troubles
I am so happy to of found your videos Scott. My son wanted to be the flash this year for Halloween and you've been my saving grace. Both this and the spandex bodysuit videos saved the day! That's a great idea. If I can figure out a way to make the ears look good, I'll do that.
Ron_Williams_Art Seen all of them. this is a different approach I would like to see.
Thanks for your videos..! They are really helping me a lot.. my main problem is that I have too many projects I want to do..! ;-)
I hear you there!
the best part about this was I was trying to do this for flash so it was really nice when I found out this was also flash
same
I´m making a Daredevil cosplay, and this method fits so well, literally the mask you make in the video is a perfect example to me, I´m considering even not to make the holes for the eyes to give that effect that "I´m blind, so anyway i don´t need it to be see-trough"
I have been looking for someone to show me how to make this style of mask for my classic Captain America suit. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
If you turn the fabric inside out and press it onto the under eye , then stretch a roll the fabric back over it u have less trouble gluing the fabric on
Totally gonna make a Space Ghost cosplay with the help of this guide, thanks!
Love your videos! thank you for all this! I saw that you did a segment on boots. Have you considered trying to make gloves? Gauntlet gloves or standard wrist gloves? Those are tricky to come by. But would be so awesome to see your approach. Thanks again!
Yes, I'm planning to do a tutorial on gloves eventually and I'll have a pattern to share.
Thank you! My 10 y/o niece and I are inventing her own superhero outfit, and she really wanted a cowl. Gonna have to try and shrink it down a bit to fit her kid head...
Miss your videos! I rewatch often!
I love your tutorials, please continue!
Would love to see how you did the Wolverine cowl in the background!
looks amazing, do you have any tips for adding bat ears to it? :)
Thank you for this! I'm working on Michelle Pfeiffer Cat woman and have been struggling with how to make the cowl.
Thanks been looking for a good spandex cowl video, and i just got a sewing machine.
Can't wait to try this out thanks
I'm going to use this to make an Impulse cosplay from Young Justice!
You are all AWESOME!! Thanks for your tutorials!!!!!
Brother you are a genius. Thanks for this. God bless you.
Thanks! God bless you too.
WOW!! Looks great! Thank you so much for your help! I'm really excited to use this technique
You're Welcome! Good luck!
Thank you! Now, as far as the lightning bolts on the side go, what material would you recommend I use?
I usually just make them out of craft foam, but I know other who use styrene.
Ok great
used this for a Reverse flash and captain america cowls was a great help
Awesome!
I think after a couple of times ,wearing the cowl the neck will loosen up.So if you fix a zip up chain on the back,it would be better.
This is really, really good! I'm actually looking into making a flash cowl and this technique is quite helpful, thank you for sharing. 👍🏻
Awesome! Glad I could help!
This is great! I might use this with a stretch pleather to make a fabric Batman mask! Thanks for sharing!
CosBlade if you made your mask, how did you do the ears?
NinjaTheWizzard I'd either use foam that I've shaped or make just the ears from a pepakura pattern and harden the paper or card using any one of the many methods for hardening pepakura projects.

I'm going to use this technique when making my new 52 reverse flash
TheEnderKnight I'm not sure that he can be made with a mask like this. Professor Zoom yes but Reverse Flash, I'll have to see
Great video God bless you and yours
Thank you for making this video, its very helpful. Planning on making Gwenpool.
Very good video. Making Shrek for school play. Thanks for the pattern.
Great tutorial, thank you!
"I need to get one of those..."
I would soooooo use that for a Spiderman mask pattern. right now I am working on a friendly neibor hood Spiderman suit.
how would you doit it for batman
You probably need to pick a Batman version first.
Hey, does the cowl pull back over his head like in the show? Or does the Spandex not stretch that far?
Hey scott, could you use this to make a batman cowl and than sew it to a cape, save making a seperte neck sock and latex cowl?
Could you spray a vertical line of glue, align it and then work your way out to the edge of the shell, gluing a little at a time?
Gonna use this for a pissed off-looking Symbiote Spidey!
You should try to put a fabric mesh in the eyes from swimming shorts to give the cartooned look.
That's a good idea, but it depends on which version of Flash you do.
+Scott Bayles (Creative Costuming) thanks to your video i am out at the store getting what i need for this build. i got the bat mask and i have everything else i need. i am going to be making the flash from thecartoons
+Scott Bayles (Creative Costuming) it is something to do while i wait for my patterns for my the amazing spiderman 2 costume.
+NT that's awesome!
Please show me how you cretae your wolverine cowl !!!
I'll put that on my list of projects.
yess pleasee

I’m going to make a Batman cowl with this tutorial
Thanks! Now im going make Batman cosplay 1939 for comic con
Are you going to be doing a tutorial on the wolverine cowl?
I can do that eventually.
Scott Bayles hey dude can you do the tutorial on how to make a superhero belt and add a link to the templates in the description for me so I can make a utility belt for my sidekick Robin the boy wonder
also is the glue also flexible
I'm thinking of using this as a method of making a batman cowl... any ideas for the ears?
For this tutorial, say I wanted to create a spandex cowl where there isn’t any eye holes, instead one giant visor piece attached to the mask? How would I achieve this?
Is it possible to make the cowl but have the top of the scalp exposed?
ever thought about doing that for a batman mask and attache it to a cape..via your cape and hood video
could you make a video on making a large collar for a cap, like doctor strange or Dracula.
Or Hooded Justice
Thanks, I needed this for Daredevil
I'm gonna adjust the fabric template to incorporate some ears for batman.
looks almost like the flash
I'm trying to find the best way to make a Gwenpool cowl. The eyes are the hardest part to figure out the best way to go about it. ideas?
I would use a batman mask as the under-shell, but instead of covering it completely like the tutorial, make the eye holes prior to gluing it down and hem them in. You'll also want to be careful to avoid getting spray glue around the eye area.
That was awesome! Thanks for all your great content.
that's awesome. I tried the same with spider man a few years ago but I had test so my mom got the fabric and she bought a sparkly one. that too a two way stretch. still thinking what to do with it lol
Using this for my nite owl cosplay
how did you make the wolverine cowl? Look great!
Thank you 🙏🏻 your video is amazing. Keep up the great work. (If possible, can you make nite owl from watchmen?)
How did you do the wolverine sides? I know the base is a yellow cowl but how do you do the black part
I love your videos! Can you make a Green Hornet mask like the one in the 60's TV series? Where it looks like hard plastic and fits around your ears like eyeglasses?
Qeustion, would this be useful for making a fabric batman mask?
I would like to make the Batman cowl from the '60s series
Hi pastor. Just one question. Where did you get the face shild?
Do you know where we could find the exact batman mask you used for the facesheild on this one?
Your videos are awesome friend!
Congratulations.
You should do a video about how to use this technique for a batman cowl
Do you have a template where if you want the top cut out so you can have hair flowing out like kid flash?
Is there anyway that I can buy one from you already made? Also is there anyway you could make the full Flash suit?
Can polyester be cut without fraying
Although I'm working on a 'First Appearance' Batman costume, I'm also working on a costume for my own Crimefighter, inspired by Watchmen
you should do the same cowl but with pleather
Thanks for the video tutorial. I really learned a lot! How do you do the open mouth part for Captain America because the Flash open mouth are not curved like the Captain's and I have a big head how much % should I enlarge. Thanks again.
No Batman design?
since this mask is made from spandex, which is stretchy, are u able to turn it into a hood like in the Flash tv show?
Yes, but you have to make sure the neck is a little loose on you to do that.
planning on using this for my catwoman
Can you do a tutorial on your Batman gloves? And a tutorial with a Batman mask but in this style. I can’t find a way to make the Batman ears stay on the spandex fabric.
great video sir
how do you cut out the holes for the ears???
and I'm trying to make batman gauntlets and gloves so my problem is is that the right size for the glove and attaching them to the gauntlet
but the the material of the blades I'm thinking crafting foam
Do you have any tips for the v2 cowl template? I’m having trouble with it
What brand was the batman mask ?
