It is a Cat D8 15A as was said before built between 1954 -1959! It has a non-turbocharged Cat D-242 diesel engine with 191 Flywheel HP. Now for all you right-seat drivers! Pull on that Master clutch all you want but this tractor is a 3 speed torque converter driven machine which according to the look I got at 12;17 was in 2nd gear! With that little bit of throttle or RPM's he was giving that old girl it is going to act like the clutch is slipping, although I believe it was not !! TQ tractors won't act right unless you give them full or near full throttle or power! Also in the right hands that old girl is capable of moving a fair amount of dirt every day, even by today's standards!! If I were you boys, I wouldn't count her out just yet, there is a lot of life left in that old girl ! No blow-by, No blue or white smoke coming out the exhaust, full oil pressure at !/2 or less throttle setting, full converter pressure at 1/2 or- throttle setting! Plenty of undercarriage left under her!! She can still do a full days work you'll be proud of !! Chum..... Nov,29- 2014......
Seems like the clutch lever is not snaping in properly, you will get eccessive clutch wear, tracks need tightening up, don't want to lose one. Nice video of an old cat at work
Thanks, you should post a pic or video. This machine was sold about a while back. Think its now doing fram duty in upstate NY, which is nice because it was really just sitting idle most of the time
we got one to but with a top on it and ours is more bigger the front end is about 8 ft to the top of the radiator and ours is about twice this size and i think ours is a 48
That's a nice cat. I believe it's more like 1958. You should adjust the clutch, that way you wouldn't need to hold the clutch lever with you hand all the time.
Thanks for the comments everyone, hopefully this machine is doing well at its new home a year or so later. I had serial number written down somewhere, if I find it I'll put it up and maybe someone can provide the year for sure. Thanks, Have a good Holiday!
Yes, adjust the master clutch. I think that is a "14A D8". no torque covertor. You should have a strong pop over centor at the master clutch. "I think about 35 LBS pull to over center it". While you at it, tigthen tracks, about 1 inch drop in chain " roller to roller " look like you need to get the stearing clutch to release. "hint put barell plug in bottom of problem clutch houseing, fill with deisel fuel, hold back on the stear lever, the clutch disk will work thier selves loose. drain deisel
A cat will get that much rust on the blade in a few months here That's why at the end of each construction season we coat the blades on our equipment with either a paint or a rust preventative. Our older D8 is almost 30 year old now and works every year.
Yeah that was irritating to watch, because it should have taken half as long in the same gear & rpm, if the clutch had been engaged all the way. YANK HER ALL THE WAY BACK AND LET HER GO TO WORK!!!
great old workhorse
never say die diesel unit‼️

Mankind has came a long way since that antique was built.

Beautiful proud old beast.
Been a while since I looked at this post. Thanks for all the comments good or bad.
cool ...this is the Jurassic Park if heavy equipment
snap that clutch in all the way! it seems like its already fried.
Good video and info, Larrabeeman.
Great video.
It is definitely a D8-15aA has 190 horse power. Weight with blade and ripper would be about 58,000 lbs. I think they were made between 1954 to 1958.
Yank that clutch over center, son!
Che meraviglia questo bulldozer,ma la lama senza pistoni non saltava se prendeva una cunetta o un sasso?

Nice old iron. Interesting it has hydraulics at the back, cables up front.

Really they were not bad to grade with.
Looks like cutting grade would be impossible
Judging from that amount of rust on the blade, this dozer has not run in some time.

this old cat is on its last leg
That D8 is a 15A torque converter drive
just think at one time it was brand spanking new and was a every day worker.
torque make shit happen !
Didn't move teaspoonful of dirt.
