Only in Australia would there be so much uproar about picking a 24 year old with a FC average of 45 than a 31 year old with a FC average of 39.

Why would you play Sheffield shield for no money. Especially when you don’t get to represent your country when you can get paid bulk money and travel

I'm viewing this from the U.S., and this is the first time I've seen Derm commenting on cricket.

Green at this stage is, in my opinion, being shoehorned into the side, based on potential and potential alone. As an all-rounder, his stats are essentially on par with Mitch Marsh. Personally, I don’t think it is worth disrupting the top order, just to squeeze him into the team.

On potential alone? Seriously mate ? Boy was literally averaging 60 odd in first class cricket n was scoring doubles in shield at no.4 when he was drafted into Aussie test squad. Yes he has underperformed but greeny destroyed shield cricket in his short span to come into the team not thru some potential only basis.

There’s no arguing that the kid isn’t talented, but we have a choice of free opening, batsmen all averaging 45 more in the last couple of seasons, or what the selectors have done instead: move Steve Smith up the order to open something he has next to no experience in doing, Just to create a place in the team for green. Even in the best case scenario we both of them play brilliantly for the next three tests. There’s a long break before the series against India. , not an issue with a settled lineup, where players are familiar with their positions and have spent if not their whole career at least a significant amount of it in that role, but much more challenging for someone who has, for example, for tests experience opening at that point

Marsh is a far cry to Green even at current averages, what are you talking about?

Great input, I have thought similarly for a while, honestly his fielding is his biggest asset that he brings into the side....his weaknesses are glaring(gigantic gap between bat and pad especially early, footwork and square) and they are pumping him up ala Patty Cummins but he's not of that ilk in my opinion, I'm happy to be proven wrong but he's not a number 4 and he's not a first change bowler....Mitch marsh is streak ahead right now that's why selectors etc are trying to sell this number 4 crap when we all know there's one all rounder spot and on merit he shouldn't be playing

As a neutral looking at Australian cricket I don't understand the negativity around this team and the selection etc. They retained the Ashes, won the Test Championship, won the World Cup, beat Pakistan 3-0....and people still moan!

I know that the selectors and senior players will say otherwise, but I think Bancroft is paying for the interview he gave about the sandpaper incident, insinuating that the bowlers were aware about the tampering with the ball in that test match in South Africa.

Bancroft certainly hasn't had as many opportunities in the Australian test team as Hick had for England in test cricket.

Bancroft doesn't take fantastic catches in the gully or bowl at around 140 K's. Green bats as well as Bancroft.

No, but people seem to forget that Bancroft was, and is still an exceptional short leg Fielder, I know the position isn’t overly popular these days but that’s worth something

The West Indies were losing badly even when they had all their players long before t20 cricket. If anything t20 cricket has improved the quality of a lot of WI cricketers. Infrastructure and development programs are the biggest problems in WI cricket.
