Only just got linked this now, but thanks for the video. Good info!
great video man! heads up!
Cheers Jesse, I emailed you that question and you kindly sent me the link to this vid. Question answered 👍
Glad you found it! Please do send it to any producers you know who might benefit from this information:-)
Talking about the direct deposit thing, it is cost fees to direct deposit to other countries bank. So if you earn only a little royalty, your bank direct deposit fee is higher than what you earn.
I am from Bulgaria, Europe, and I am a BMI affiliate. I am not affiliated with any other PRO in my country or anywhere else. And, as you may have guessed, I work with American film directors, on American projects, and with American music libraries.
Hey Valyo - thanks for sharing. It's great for other producers outside of the US to know about this!
but how do you get the money its says only american bank?
Zdrasti Valyo!
Hi,
Did you send BMI a tax form? I ma in the registering phase and they ask for an optional tax form. Don’t know what kind of form they mean. Can you give some info about this?
@@radius9420 Hey Raoul, I'm in the same situation. Have you found more info about it ?
Hi, I just signed contract with my local PRO which alows me to join BMI(for monitoring the rest of the world). My question is, what should I put in BMI form under the "are you a member of any other PRO" statement?does it refer to only US PROs or generally for any PRO around the world? Thanks
can I join a pro like bmi and not register from my local pro and how would I get my royalties
Thank you for this video! It is very useful!
But I have one more question)
Do BMI or ASCAP pay royalties for the cover songs?
Yes, they collect royalties for cover songs & a portion is always sent to the original publisher & songwriter.
Oh, thanks!!!
Hi great info thanks! You said "publishing is a different story". I've been trying to find out if I can register with ASCAP/BMI as a foreign writer and publisher but can't find any info! Do you have any info on this or know where to find it? Thanks!
I got the same question.. been trying to figure this for 6 months now. i'm located in the Caribbean and i want to join BMI as a Publisher. i'm already signed up as an artist.
How does BMI or ASCAP pays foreigners? Do i have to get a bank account in the U.S? Or they can send me the royalties money to my bank account in my country?
I believe they can mail you a check or direct deposit to your bank account anywhere in the world.
This has probably been answered already but I'm still a bit confused, I'm a producer from the UK but I mainly work with artists from the US so would it be better if I joined BMI/ASCAP instead of the PRO for the UK?
Yes it would make sense to join a US PRO since it sounds like most of your revenue and performances are happening over here.
@@SyncMyMusic got it thank you so much!
I’m late but this helped me out too 🙏 someone told me UK residents couldn’t sign up with BMI but I guess that isn’t true n I’m primarily working with US artists too
Do you know if ASCAP can collect all royalties worldwide for someone not living in the US? (I am also in the UK)
Yes you can join them from countries outside of the US.
If i'm not associated with the PRO from my Country and never had a PRO before, i can obviously join BMI without asking anybody right? (basically if BMI is the first PRO i would sign in my life and i'm at the very start of my Music carrier). I want to release my first Song through cd baby PRO and sign up with BMI before the release.
Yes, but only if you plan to work with US Libraries.
@@SyncMyMusic I just wanna make sure that if everything goes well, i’m able to get my Performance royalties from BMI, since cd baby will only collect mechanical royalties if i get that right. I have to admit that i don’t know what libraries are yet.
I have no affiliation with a PRO in my country (i live in Brazil btw). Do i still need their permission to join BMI/ASCAP?
No, you can directly join BMI or ASCAP!
I am a Nigerian Producer trying to Register with BMI. How do I go about this
Check my YoUTube channel for a video about foreign producers working in the US market. It'll answer all your questions.
But what is the point of affiliating with PRO from other country? since it is available at the country you live in.
Not so sure about the pros and con's, but that was just my thought
If you live outside the US, but plan on getting most of your placements through US Libraries and US TV/Film opportunities, having a US PRO can reduce the chances of missing royalties/track registrations, etc.
What is PRO
Performing Rights Organization. They collect royalties on behalf of songwriters, artists and producers.
Thanks for the vid man.
I have a question, how I get the money from royalties if im outside the states? International baker tranfers are f... expensive... do I go see trump in person?
