i remember my dad talking about a "hury gurdy" 40 odd years ago. Today i looked on youtube to find out what it was.....and found this! what an absolute, beautiful sound! i must say i think I've heard the most spine-tingling musical instrument ever.
I remember the days of the Zeppelin tours - and have to say - I really like what we have become. Beautifully composed tunes, Nigel. Can't get this out of my head - and don't want to. Another tune to learn on the gurdy
After a whole month since my last comment, if I can take my eyes from the screen for 3.13 minutes, I've come to REALLY appreciate the utterly beautiful depth of the harmonies you create Nigel - gives me goosebumps. Also come to appreciate this tune is totally way up there alongside my other extreme favourites and your Dad's great skill in building these fabulous instruments - Theresa
Utterly sublime. Such a delight to watch Nigel playing these wonderful compositions - his whole body immersed in rapturous delight. Glad I'm not the only one who plays his videos on repeat endlessly - Theresa@ Cambridge
Well, this song has been playing on repeat for me for the past while, I can't get enough of it! This hurdy gurdy sounds beautiful, and the layering of it all is really something! Really fascinating to see those chord-keys at work too, Chris Eaton is a master of his craft! I'd love to buy one of his hurdy gurdies some day! Is that a possibility?
thanks for all that, dad has retired but his machines do come up for sale occasionally, he only made 17 of these double ones making them ultra rare and closely guarded. send me your email and i'll keep you posted tho
Your video specifically inspired me to start saving for a high end hurdy for those tones. The drone puts me in the feels immediately. Wonderful piece as well!
@@nigeleaton1 Still haven’t pulled the trigger! Covid and all still has my bank account on hold. The plan at the moment is to try building one actually. I’ll definitely join for general advice if you recommend it!
thanks for the music over the years. ive also enjoyed your stuff with mckennitt and the pandemonium album. you never fail to deliver, or to annoy my pop music loving girlfriend
Hi Nigel. Just really learned what a hurdy gurdy is a few months ago, (from you), so I'm not knowledgeable, as are many of your followers. But I do know what I like, and having now listened to all your songs, (and even your training videos), I love this song the best. I don't know what you were thinking of when you composed it, but I picture the Indoor Tree, sad and dark in the beginning, and then fantasizing a life back in the woods, as sunlight touches it through the window. I know, not even close, but there you go. ;-) Hope to hear more new songs from you soon.
hi there , no im not playing to a backing track . i added all the extra stuff after the original take and mixed it in in imovie , this way you don't need headphones or a click track . easy peasy :-)
Ah, yes. That makes more sense. I am just reading your description and it answers a few more questions. Keep rocking! Btw, I am a multi instrumentalist and make recordings/videos as well. I play some instruments that would go great with the HG, in case you are ever interested in a collaboration. Have a great day
Please tell me where to order such beauty and at what price? Your hurdy-gurdy is awesome! I also have a hurdy gurdy, but the Russian version. Actually there are no effects.
this was made by my dad, he's retired now but sometimes his machines come up for sale. these double keyboard versions are very rare though, he only made 17 of them. they are around £10k but very hard to find
Apart from an excellent performance and tune, the sound is great as well, sometimes they can sound very harsh to a newbie to the HG like me but this is great. I can't justify an instrument so I've had to settle for a virtual one from Sonokinetic, it won't be the same I know, but better than nowt. Thanks for posting.
@@nigeleaton1 Will do. Thanks for responding Nigel very much appreciated. You've got some great video's on here, entertained me for the last hour or so here, very interesting.
@@nigeleaton1 thank you. Thank you for sharing the video as well. It was played well, I find it edifying. I also had no idea that there existed hurdy gurdys with the capability demonstrated here.
Beautiful! But... Hurdy-gurdy-bot** or just overdub?? (** → pedals controlling magnetic capos and switches 'Zanfobot' by César Loureiro is what I know about that),
Where might I get a hurdy gurdy like this? I have never played one but I have really wanted to play one. Ik I won't be as good as this for a while but it sounds like the right pick if I'm to get one. And good job btw. You have inspired me further
So my request has not been accepted on Facebook. Maybe eventually. In the meantime any suggestions for makers of this type or style of hurdy gurdy? Thanks in advance :)
