  • In Memphis, in 1968, two black sanitation workers died due to a malfunctioning truck and it caused 1300 black sanitation workers to go on strike, demanding safer work conditions. It was after extensive travel and while feeling sick that Dr. King gave the speech commonly referred to as the Mountaintop speech. He spoke in support of the sanitation workers continuing their strike, and protesting non-violently.
This was Dr. King's last speech. He was killed the next day by someone who didn't like what he was doing. But I'm very thankful that he was able to give this last speech.
