As a regular scuba diver, it always annoys me a bit hearing this view on the clasp Rob! That clasp is exactly what makes this the best tool dive watch on a bracelet on Earth. I always prefer bracelets, but It's pretty impractical to be switching between the rubber strap in the water and the bracelet on land as you suggest, you have enough to get sorted before and after a dive. This clasp lets you n wear it to the dive site, in the water over many layers in a dry suit, and in the pub for dinner after, without thinking twice about what strap is on and whether it fits! The hidden springs also let the watch expand and contract over my dry suit as I decend/ascend. You're hating on its best feature as a dive watch!
100% agree, i work as a commerical diver, i work underwater with these watches. Love that i could use the bracelet! And after work dont need to change it for going to dinner.

The perfect tool watch. Also, the toolless adjusts are superb, and the springs may be useful, and are definately a show of quality engineering in practice. Excellent watches. Glad you came to the same conclusion.
Also the sacrifice of the 3 oclock hour marker is a reason to get the ETA...they both run 28.8k so why have 5 lines , sacrifice an hour marker and make the watch thicker...only because people are lazy to wear an automatic watch?

I've got a Sinn 857 - a 43mm diver/pilot tool watch and with the SW300 movement it is only 12mm thick. 14+mm just seems top heavy to me - I'd have to try one on before I'd buy one. What about the Pelagos compared to the Superocean?
Re the clasp. The clasp on the Pelagos is designed for divers. As you descend your wetsuit compresses. Regular dive extensions and NATOs become loose. The Pelagos clasp keeps the watch tight to your wrist. Like the rubber straps on Seiko divers with the accordion waves near the spring bars. Same idea. Those Seiko straps you put on tight so that when your suit compresses the material bunches back up keeping the strap from coming loose. It would be good if Tudor had an option for their regular clasp but that would add a lot of manufacturing cost. I agree with you about the diagram. I could live without that for sure. It is also not true that every diver uses a rubber strap. Many use and prefer bracelets.
I love the square indices (they should extend that to all their BBs to differentiate themselves from Rolex & all the homages) and the die cut chapter ring, but I just can't get pass the thickness.......Tudor should rename this Pelagus to "professional" and launch a new thinner Ti model without the He valve (just lower the depth to 300m) & simpler clasp on the Ti bracelet......
I like this black version a lot more than the blue version of the watch, the blue always looked a little bit too loud, compared with the stylish black.

Excellent watch for scuba diving. I don’t agree with your statement that divers wouldn’t take this under water on the bracelet. The clasp is really designed to use it on top of a wet suit which makes it superior to any other bracelet I’ve seen so far. The rubber strap with its extension piece is more suited for diving in cold water with a dry suit for which the bracelet may be to short.

@ thanks, yeah I ordered one and got one. Thankfully it fit but I did find my favorite Seiko aftermarket bracelet company also offered half and full links for extending the size just in case.
You think the in-house Tudor movement costs them more to make? If you have the ETA you can visit any decent watchmaker to have it serviced and not have to send it in to Tudor for big outlay..
Why is the new movement so thick though ? My Baume & Mercier Baumatic has a 5 day power reserve, runs +1 second per day, is anti-magnetic to 1.5 milgauss and the movement is thinner than the ETA 2824 at 4.2mm. This watch could have been 12.5mm thick if they had engineered the movement better,
Best value for money luxury dive watch you can buy ! Looks feels and wears better than the seamaster 300m I own both and prefer my Tudor hands down in my opinion a better value proposition, hate the helium escape valve on the omega , thought I’d get used to it but I can’t , Tudor is vastly superior the way they do it
Weight of the watch including bracelet 147grams I found it at some watch dealers homepage Rob It's still heavier than my citizen promaster titanium that is only 97 grams !
I was torn between the 2 .. chose the LHD pelagos. And i love it .. mite still get the seamaster eventually..hoping they completely revise the bracelet..if they do that ! Boy the seamaster would b a killer piece .. enjoy the seamaster and snatch up the Tudor at your convenience.. Tudor is a everyday wearer and your omega can b for dressier engagement.. that's how I look at it ..i have a Breitling so i have my bling piece .lol ..but the PELAGOS LHD is just special and kind of mystical on the wrist
Great review ..but the term tool watch is getting a lil long on the tooth ..let's be honest ..how many people who own this piece actually purchase it for a tool ? I surely didn't (own the LHD ) I think it does this beautiful time piece a big distjustice as it's way more than just a tool ..it's a beautiful time piece that has great wrist presence wears amazingly well for it's size and looks killer on the wrist ..
I like the movement spec... and i think that's about it... Just never really got into Tudor, the build quality is nice, but for the money you would expect that... and again another wide 22mm lug that should be 20mm and all dive watches need drilled lugs, come on, the basics surely.
So, unless the point is- those additional spring loaded (clasp) features are adding up towards overall cost- one does NOT have to use them (those features). I never understood why we take time to point out what we DON’T need in an item, when GET everything else we WANT in the item. So long as those “issues-problems” do not impact your experience. Just enjoy it for what you like about it. IMHO.
The problem with first gen in-house, especially if designed from the ground up is that anyone who buys one is a beta tester. Then next gen will be the one to own. I also believe in right to repair and tudors embargo on send out parts or third party repairs is unfortunate. Not a fan of denying my local trusted watch maker business in favor of some big watch company. the butterfly bridge for the balance is nice tho.
This guy here. GTFO it's his opinion. Take it or leave it but don't assume it's not good info for anyone else. I personally like to get different opinions from other people. Its called being objective.
They made this watch out of the wrong material. A serious tool watch should never be made out of a soft metal like grade 2 titanium. You'll have to baby this thing like a solid gold watch otherwise it's going to look trashed.
SS is far shinier and scratches are FAR more visible than Ti. also (from google: titanium has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of all known metals)
For the text I would prefer the following.... Remove GENEVE from the top, keep PELAGOS, CHRONOMETER, and the depth rating... Three lines is plenty, Clean up the text at the top and she's perfect.... How about a 6 o'clock date window with rectangles at 3 and 9?
Just a bit too chunky for all that dough, but I like it more than Omega, Rolex and anything else from Tudor. *Except maybe* the Omega Seamaster non-Professional. EDIT - And the watch I'm currently wearing is just a shade under 15mm! LOL any excuse I can find to not lust after pricey toys!

The outer part of the clasp is stainless steel too.
everyone praises that clasp. always thought it was overdone. I do miss the partial indice at 3 o'clock that was on the first edition
Would like it if got rid of the pointless date complication, or at least moved it to 6...Still think the North Flag was Tudor's best watch tho!
For the price I'd get a Seamaster.👍🏻👍🏻
Hi. Would this fit an 8 inch wrist? I’m debating on getting one but am concerned my wrist is too big.
My wrist is 7,25” and it wears fine
Your dealer can obtain extra links for the bracelet to make it fit. Same with any good brand really.
@ thanks, yeah I ordered one and got one. Thankfully it fit but I did find my favorite Seiko aftermarket bracelet company also offered half and full links for extending the size just in case.
I have the blue version, previously had two Submariners and this is better in my opinion, I absolutely love it.
Slim the size between the lugs down to 20mm, drop 2 lines of text from the dial and it would be close to perfect imo
Hey @RandomRob I’d be interested in purchasing the Pelagos so let me know what the best way is to get in touch with Craig.
Watch is gone, sorry
Get a gen 1 ETA, you will not regret it.
@@GuideauxPelagos pay +3k for an ETA movement.... No thanks.
This watch could have been 12.5mm thick if they had engineered the movement better,
Good question, why did they make it so thick? They have a thinner movement in the bb58 now.
Because this watch has a waterresistance of 500 meters and a helium escape valve.
How is this compared to your Breitling? Which one do you like more?
I have the same Superocean as Rob, the style of the Tudor is way more conservative. It’s a case of whatever floats your boat!
Best value for money luxury dive watch you can buy ! Looks feels and wears better than the seamaster 300m I own both and prefer my Tudor hands down in my opinion a better value proposition, hate the helium escape valve on the omega , thought I’d get used to it but I can’t , Tudor is vastly superior the way they do it
You are spot on about this clasp!
What’s your sense of value for money on this watch?
Gen 1 will retain and in the future make value, gen 2 will not be collectable but is still bang per buck to buy.
Also think the LHD model may b collectable at one point
I thought my Sub had a lot of writing on the dial. Tudor went a little crazy, I wish the dial was a bit cleaner.
6:41 in whats that sound lmao
Weight of the watch including bracelet 147grams
I found it at some watch dealers homepage Rob
It's still heavier than my citizen promaster titanium that is only 97 grams !
Sometimes i mentally slap myself for not getting this over the omega smp last year.
Nah, you made the right choice.
I agree with that statement. The omega SMP is a watch stuck in the 90s. Looks very dated. The tutor looks way better
I have the LHD Pelagos, and it is superb. But, the lume is not as bright or long lasting as my Seiko SBBN031. That one is a flashlight.
Nice review, love mine. I entirely agree about the rubber strap, I hate it. Great watch though.
Sick watch...the amount of the texts on the dial ruins it though
Love it
I like the movement spec... and i think that's about it...
IMHO.
Most divers I know dive with sub $500 Seikos. Best lume. 4r35 tank. The thing to know is that real dive watches get abused. From a real diver.
Yeah a lot non diver watch enthusiasts like to spout off nonsense.
Tbh this is the only Tudor I would buy
But in the blue variation only
A green pelagos would be total badass man
This must be compared to the Seiko Prospex SLA021!!!
If the good cut a small bit of text off the dial I'd go out and get it in the morning... But I think it just looks too distracting
Is this technically better than the Rolex sub, omega seamaster ,or even the omega planet Ocean????
Technically? No, it competes with them at some level though.
It maybe the perfect tool diver, but mentions a list of things he doesn't like about it. 🤔
The bracelet is titanium, the clasp is stainless steel
I think the arm is SS, the clasp is Ti.
I don’t get your justification. Well, fortunately they haven’t built like 20mm movement as that would justify 25mm thick watch lol
Hi Rob, I am currently uploading a reply video to this one, you didn't really "get" the Pelagos imho....
You can view things your way, and I can view them my way.
@@RandomRobReviews and that is exactly what I pointed out...you view it YOUR way...not in a way that is beneficial to your viewers.
@@GuideauxPelagos how can you decide what is beneficial to thousands of viewers. I strongly have to disagree with you in that regard.
This guy here. GTFO it's his opinion. Take it or leave it but don't assume it's not good info for anyone else. I personally like to get different opinions from other people. Its called being objective.
@@A_Dude_And_His_Watch78 opinions can't be objective per definition but I get what you mean
Clasp is stainless steel for structural integrity
They made this watch out of the wrong material. A serious tool watch should never be made out of a soft metal like grade 2 titanium. You'll have to baby this thing like a solid gold watch otherwise it's going to look trashed.
SS is far shinier and scratches are FAR more visible than Ti.
also (from google:
titanium has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of all known metals)
@@GuideauxPelagos Who cares about the weight? This is a big tool watch. It's not supposed to be feather light.
I love titanium watches... I also want that all my EDC gear is made out of titanium!
Well,my Sinn U50 is just 11.1mm thick. Just saying ;)
Bland and needs some pop. Looked at these but wasnt impressed. Went the Superocean instead.
Yep, me too, just love my Superocean, don’t get the love for this at all, it is pretty bland.
For every detail you praise, you complain about something else. Amazing clasp, but I dislike this and this. So it's not an amazing clasp after all.
Funny how everyone kills Seiko for alignment issues and here we have a Tudor with the same problem...
11th it's like being first twice. Lol
42 mm with about 150 mm of text on the dial
Is this pronounced "pelagos" or "pelagos"? 😆
The first one.
Pelagos... not Pelagoes.
