@@sydboski "2. The comment does not say football/baseball, it says greatest athlete." - I understand the OP comment did not say that, I did.
So no, it doesn't make sense." - Well it does make sense because again context and Era matters. Saying Thorpe would essentially dog walk todays athletes is pure speculation. Yes in his day he was a phenom, and its not outside the realm of possibility that he would be just as dominant today. However that is just pure speculation. We can only go with what we have.
Bo on the other hand would still be just as dominant today as he was then, we don't have to speculate at all. His times, abilities, size are just too much.
If you want to make the case that Thorpe was a better 4 sport athlete against Bo specifically, that would technically be possible but only because Bo didn't play 4 sports....................However as a MLB/NFL athlete, Bo was the best and its not even close. No one was better, no one has been better......ever.
@@Silver_79 @Silver_79 So, Thorpe, almost 100 years ago, being dominant today is speculation. But Bo, almost 35 years ago, being dominant today is not speculation? LMAO!! Bo's baseball career was not dominant. He was average at best. 10.44 100m is good, but there are plenty of players in the NFL faster and much faster than that. And please do not try to hand me the total BS 40 time because it is a complete fluffed myth.
Thorpe was the better all around athlete. That is the subject of this thread.
He ran up the wall in Baltimore’s old Memorial Stadium.
Where do Jim Thorpe and Goose Tatum rank
Bo knows….
When deion himself said bo is a better athlete pretty sure he is
Arguably the best overall all-around athlete ever is/was NATIVE AMERICAN JIM THORPE - collegiate records in numerous sports, Olympic records, professional records. But you also do have to put in Bo Jackson and Wilt Chamberlin.
Bo is def up there but I'll take Wilt
I will take Bo all day
Bo Jackson is Achilles reborn
Bo Knows
You are forgetting Jim Brown.
And Wilton Norman Chamberlain.
@@watchmanonthewall14 nobody can forget a guy that had a 50” vertical, won the NCAA low hurdles, long jump and set the high jump record. I’m talking about football, not basketball. Jim was considered the greatest Lacrosse player Possibly ever as well. There is also Jim Thorpe in there somewhere.
@@kimwarfield1587 Fair enough, but the interviewee in the video is talking about best ATHLETE of all time.
@@watchmanonthewall14 exactly. First it’s a ludicrous pursuit. Only pitting these athletes against each other at their prime could determine who would be the greatest. Second there are athletes walking the streets that could be even better and for whatever reason never played or washed out of sports. I’ve been alive long enough to have seen all of them but Thorpe, Owens and some of the athletes deemed great from those early days. You also apparently have ignored the fact that most of the great sport athletes decided to not play other sports to concentrate on one sport.
Have a blessed day.
I believe BO is but I do think Wilt Chamberlain gets over looked. Guy was a freak as well
That just insane speed in general, but for a 230 pound man in pads, it's terrifying.
Herschel Walker was faster and just as big.
@@sydboski Your'e the only one that thinks that-lol
@@powerboatguy2308 I don't think it. I know it. Their weight entering the NFL was Bo 227, HW 225. You can find that on pro football reference. As far as speed Bo ran 55m in 6.18 vs HW at 6.11. Also their 100m times Bo 10.44 vs HW at 10.23. That information on the World Athletics web site. They have the real verified times. I only speak facts.

That 40 time story isnt real hershal walker is actually verified to be faster not saying wasnt a great athlete but he wasnt better then hershal walker
BO Jackson and Jim Thorpe
Not even close well
there are some athlete who were or are close
but NONE better
😊
Jim Thorpe…. The greatest athlete post 1900s.
Bo Jackson was great but Jim Thorpe is the greatest athlete of all time.
I have to agree.
Jim Thorpe, then definitely Bo
Jackson intimidated Deion. Maybe the only player Deion understood was clearly superior
Wilt Chamberlain is the best athlete in human history
Sprinter. HIGH JUMPER in collage. 50”vertical at 310#. Beat the other players to the other end of the court (no big man lope). Scored ONE HUNDRED POINTS…..
@@richardfeuille1212 I’m not even talking about statistics within a sport, I’m just talking about athletic ability. 7’2 with a wingspan somewhere between 7’8 and 8’4, weighing between 290-325 pounds throughout his nba years, 48-50 inch vertical, 500 pound bench press in his 50’s, able to pick up full grown men and move them around in the air with ease and with one hand, 4.6 second 40 yard dash, the list is literally endless. Bo Jackson is definitely among the best pure athletes of all time but there’s no doubt chamberlain is number 1, and by the way did this all naturally. No ped’s around in his time, plus he didn’t have any recovery technology or training equipment athletes now have which improve all of their athletic abilities. He didn’t even have good shoes to use. Imagine the athletic numbers he would’ve had if he was 20 years old right now
@@tonj02 well that's your opinion. Dick Schaap, the legendary sports writer had Bo as the greatest athlete he'd ever seen, followed by Wilt, then Jim Brown
Bo and it isn't even close
Bo's best results in track & field in college:
100m 10.39
High Jump 6'9"
Triple Jump 48' 9"
Long Jump 24' 8"
Shot put 50'
Wilt's best collegiate track & field results
High Jump 6'6 3/4"
Shot 46'10.5"
Triple Jump 46'2"
Bo was superior in every event Wilt specialized in and did multiple other events at a very high level.
Unlike Wilt, Bo was a two sport professional athlete. And not an athlete when a sport was in its infancy like Wilt coming into the NBA in 1959. Bo came into MLB which had existed 100 years and the NFL which existed for 65 years.
@@MrKT410 -
You are young and uniformed. Jim Thorpe’s track & field AND football stats blow Bo Jackson’s out of the water. Thorpe’s baseball stats are roughly equal to Jackson’s, although most of Thorpe’s baseball career was in the minor leagues - because he was playing football.
I don't know who the hell i sin the background, but they need to watch their mouth.
Wilt Chamberlain
We play tennis?
Rich, stop rambling.
People bring up Jim Thorpe as a better athlete, but it's simply NOT true!!!
Bo Jackson is nowhere close to as great and dominant of an athlete as Jim Thorpe - not even close. No man has been as dominant in multiple sports as Jim Thorpe. Do some research - see if you can prove me wrong.
Also, Jackie Robinson, Jim Brown, and Wilt Chamberlin were all far superior athletes to Bo Jackson.
😆Yeah, the measure of athletic dominance is how someone performs against nothing but white guys 🤣🤣🤣
Wilton Norman Chamberlain.
Bo Jackson's 4 years in the nfl:
38 games
2782 yards
16 tds
Yea sure, bo is so godlike 😆
Obviously you weren't alive when he was playing
That's a lot of games in 4 years. About 1 every 3 days with no off season. He must have been tired.
@@jojopuppyfish I'm 46, try again...... I've watched him in the nfl and mlb, the media is the reason why he is considered this all time great athlete. Don't believe me? Bwhahahahahahahahahahaha omg
Le-who? Floppers who only play one sport aren't eligible for this discussion.
And LJ just fell over because of a hangnail…
No. He's not. He is probably one of the most versatile athletes. He is not the greatest baseball player and he's not the greatest football player. He's very good at both.
He's not in either hof bc he wasn't good enough. Hakuho, Adam Eaton, Carl Lewis, Jordan, Secretariat, etc. There are other great athletes that u could put up next to Bo. Bo knows marketing
Adam Eaton MLB player who got cut from the Angels midseason in '22, and a horse? Is that the best you've got? He's not in either HOF because an injury cut his careers short, not because of lack of skills.

Bo jackson was a better athlete than Deion, you got some revisionist history.
Bo made the All Star game in both baseball and football, Deion didn't.
Deion was flashy, Bo Jackson was by far the better athlete, and if he wasn't so powerful as to rip his own hip out of the socket during a tackle, he would have made the NFL Hall Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame.
