I now understood that the grey cable with the red and white top are for the sound and matches with there color. But the problem is when i plug the blue my screen becomes black and same when i plug the red with the grey cable. If i plug the green one the image appears but its black and white. Im talking about video only... audio is working fine when i plug in the green one... but its in black and white.
I think these cables were originally included with a Nyko Nintendo Wii power play kit along with a charging station with rechargeable batteries for the Wiimotes and wireless sensor bar.
cool. Just hooked up my nephew's wii to my brother's HDTV via standard component cables and it looked ok but everything like you said did look a bit blurry and the blacks were definitely off.
@AlexDC93 In the wii system menu theres an option that allow you to change the definition, either 480p EDTV HDTV or 480i for Standard TV. So i guess that the wii changes the video signal so it looks better.
These are the cables I use for my Wii. Fantastic & looks great on my 47" Samsung LED HDTV and they also make 480P Gamecube games like Wind Waker look great!
@AlexDC93 from what i read is that you can change the definition in the wii menu, and then the basic colors rendered will have their own respectives wires, instead combining them just into one.
I bought that same cable and I noticed that on an LCD screen it looked sharp and clear, but on my crt, though it looked very sharp, it looked dark as hell idk why. In dark sections of a game it's impossible to see for how dark it looked, and increasing brightness settings from the TV didn't help, it made it worse because now everything looks awfully blue shaded.
Yes I agree. Composite is leaps and bounds better than coaxial. I have had a satisfying experience with the composite cables that came with the Wii with a widescreen tv. I do agree that you should go with the component cables for better picture.
The data coming from the console will still be exactly the same so how the hell would a cable make the image look better if it is receiving and transmitting the same data as the other cable.
I bought one at a garage sale for $1 yesterday Would be nice to see a picture difference FYI HDMI is just a smaller/compact version of component audio/video so you can run 1080p if the system allows though..
My Wii cant view component correctly. i have to switch blue and green for it to show up on the TV, which is not correct, green in blu blue in green... i know thats fucked up. wont show up on my TV with blue in blue green in green.. red of course in red.
It would be nice to see the video output quality of the cables compared side by side. I'm curious myself. I wonder if the difference would be noticeable after the review video is compressed for youtube, though.
i bought a wii and it came with the normal cable, but when i plug it into the tv, there are no picture, only sound. what should i do ?? should i buy the component video cable? if any one know the answer pleas reply. thanks
I am playing my Wii on a hdtv at 480p with component cables but Im having problems will the video quality, when i put in New super mario bros wii, the characters look kinda pixelated and also with some VC games like DKC they look very pxelated...my question to anyone reading this is do you get these problems as well or is something wrong with my hdtv or cables?? Thanks in advance!
my tv only goes 480p so i could only play my 360 up to that but the luckily the 360 came with component cables when i bought it im think of getting that universal cable for a 3 systems but im not sure cause im not a fan of getting third party accesories
I ordered a black Wii from Japan 2 days ago and they're still waiting to get the official component cables in stock. They have the black wii in stock, though. If they have official component cables for the Wii in the US, like they do in Japan, why not review those too?
can i have those white, red and yellow cables :)?? i got the hd ones but i want to put it in my brothers room but the hd cables wont connect to his tv -_-
There is component cables available for the ps2, but i really wish there was component cables for the pre-wii consoles since they all had the same cable.
Worth knowing there is also an (official) Wii RGB cable, which is on par with component in quality and may be more convenient (or not) depending on your setup..
@@gamecubeplayer It doesn't support progressive scan; the picture quality is however on par with component video. PAL Wii users ought to be aware of it especially since CRT TVs that are good for gaming often have SCART input in Europe and are unlikely to display progressive scan.
@@samhamer6588 yes pal wii rgb scart on a 15khz sdtv rgb pal crt looks amazing (if the 15khz sdtv rgb pal crt supports 60hz then it's the cheapest best way to play the pal wii)
Nice job on the vid. Clear video, clear audio, and you know what you are talking about. Thanks for showing the cables in detail. well done thanks for a proper video review of a product. What is the length?
It's not really a song and it might not have a name. It's from a stock music collection for video production, i forgot which one, but i could try to dig it out.
@DoubleAIV it's not about the output, try moving your sensor bar closer to you, preferably on top of the TV and faced to where you're playing, also try not to make sudden moves since most of the times the Wii Remote might confuse tour moves.
When you use those wires, will the controls be precise? Cause whenever i try and play my Wii on an HD screen using the regular wires, the controls get laggy. Does this make them perfect?
I had those wires once. They worked great, except it would not display the picture when I played Virtual Console games. As a result I eventually replaced it with the official Nintendo component cables.
Hey man, i have a standard TV (non lcd or plasma, i hope you understand what i'm talking about xD) and it's component compatible. If i use that cable, i am going to feel the difference? oh, and does those nyko work the same as nintendo's? Thanks!
Another significant difference is that games that support 16:9 widescreen will display in the proper ratio on a widescreen TV (instead of the 4:3 picture stretched out you get with composite).
That's true, however I use my HDTV as a monitor to display things like streaming my computer, HD games and Blu-Ray player. I rarely watch broadcast TV with it.
Hey, I dug my wii out of the box and I plugged in the VG cable, there is sound but no video. I thought it was the cable, so I bought a new VG cable from amazon. It still doesn't work. Its not my TV because my game cube and nintendo 64 works in the same slots. So it must be the console. However, since 50 dollars is too expensive for my broke butt, I really want to deny the possibility for as long as I can. Any ideas on how I can revive this Wii? If the video is really burned out in the console itself, would HDMI adapter work? Or will it end up the same way. Would component cables magically make the video work? I've plugged my yellow cable into the green slots on my tv to no effect.
0:44-0:52 Isn't coaxial the worst quality? It's still arguably modern because many devices and services (i.e. the cable tv provided at my college dorm) still utilize it. I'm not an electronics guy, so I can't be sure, but I do know coaxial is far older than composite, and older, within the realm of electronics, typically = inferior, doesn't it?
I got the Mad Catz component cable. Got to go with quality when using HD cables. Wish I had gotten the Nyko one's instead, though. I like the differently colored audio cables and that blue grippy thing too.
I play my Wii on a slightly older, big, bulky tv that we've had for years. Nintendo did right by shipping the Wii with composite cables, because it shipped all around the world, in places where not everybody has flatscreen LCD tvs. Thanks for the video about this though, I'll keep it in mind if we ever get an LCD tv.
I'm perplexed that Nintendo didn't give the Wii HDMI.
But the Wii U did get one.
motion detectin bar that uses magic.
***** I laughed harder to this than I should have. It came out so funny. XD
The motion detection bar thing that uses magic is the sensor bar.
I now understood that the grey cable with the red and white top are for the sound and matches with there color. Recently bought a component cable for the Wii and the difference is huge (it cost me about 4$) and the upgrade is totally worth it
Love the mexican restaurant music in the background
Component video can be full 1080 HD resolution, but I don't know what the maximum resolution of th Wii is tho.
So how do you connect it to the tv because they’re different colors from the ones in the tv
cool. Just hooked up my nephew's wii to my brother's HDTV via standard component cables and it looked ok but everything like you said did look a bit blurry and the blacks were definitely off.
i dont use my component cable for my wll because the virtual console games dont work when u use them
well its strange, my Plasma seems to shut the screen off after around 5 to 30 minutes but the TV itself seems to remain on?
Only CGR can make a cable review fun to watch haha. =)
@AlexDC93 In the wii system menu theres an option that allow you to change the definition, either 480p EDTV HDTV or 480i for Standard TV. So i guess that the wii changes the video signal so it looks better.
When I use my wii on my HDTV there is a bit of lag so I think I need HD component cables to fix that problem.
@xkillaz18x yeah, they are still being made, you just have to order them on ebay or amazon, as for the usb to ethernet cable i'm not sure?
in europe we always had rgb and it was much better than composite. so I'm wondering if component is better than rgb
only mark could make a review about wires enjoyable
what happens if you hav only 3 plugs in ur hd tv
These are the cables I use for my Wii. Fantastic & looks great on my 47" Samsung LED HDTV and they also make 480P Gamecube games like Wind Waker look great!
In 2020 Wind Waker still looks awesome. I play it on a CRT TV and the game looks beautiful as always
Does this really work? can someone show a side by side video
@AlexDC93 from what i read is that you can change the definition in the wii menu, and then the basic colors rendered will have their own respectives wires, instead combining them just into one.
and here i am still using coax! nice review, as always :)
you used RF on wii 10 years ago? wow
I bought that same cable and I noticed that on an LCD screen it looked sharp and clear, but on my crt, though it looked very sharp, it looked dark as hell idk why. can you show the differences between RCA and component?
You make wire reviews entertaining.
@CoolDudeClem Wii can only output SD content @ 480p, using component will output it at 480p.
is there any difference beetwen the nyko and the official nintendo component cables?
The data coming from the console will still be exactly the same so how the hell would a cable make the image look better if it is receiving and transmitting the same data as the other cable.
My tv have 480i component do you thing it work with it? instead of the 480p???
also, are there other reviews about different manufactures cables? are there differences between different brands of component cables?
I bought one at a garage sale for $1 yesterday
Would be nice to see a picture difference
FYI HDMI is just a smaller/compact version of component audio/video so you can run 1080p if the system allows though..
Well what the price difference for the nyko
Cables ?
this works 4 Wii systems in Europe right.
CheezBurger0 you need a tv that supports component and youre good to go i think. dont take my word for it
My Wii cant view component correctly. i have to switch blue and green for it to show up on the TV, which is not correct, green in blu blue in green... i know thats fucked up.
wont show up on my TV with blue in blue green in green.. red of course in red.
WTF?
***** i think you bought a cheap cable off ebay with incorrect color indication :P
So blue, green and red component replace yellow, white and red composite ?
Yes
It would be nice to see the video output quality of the cables compared side by side. I'm curious myself. I wonder if the difference would be noticeable after the review video is compressed for youtube, though.

Is there any advantage of official nintendo brand and monster cable brand cables over cheap 3rd party cables like this?
my tv only goes 480p so i could only play my 360 up to that
but the luckily the 360 came with component cables when i bought it
im think of getting that universal cable for a 3 systems but im not sure cause im not a fan of getting third party accesories
The SNES, N64 and G-Cube all used the same plug for video/audio, but I think they use a different plug for the Wii
Correct me if I'm wrong though
Nyko HD-Link Component Cables or Official Nintendo Component Cables?
Which is better.
So this cabel make better graphic ?
How do I plug this to my TV if it only has one spot (yellow) for video?
If it only has a yellow port then your tv does not support component video.
i use a HDMI (HD) cable for my ps3 but when i play my xbox i use composite (SD) because im weird
I ordered a black Wii from Japan 2 days ago and they're still waiting to get the official component cables in stock.
They have the black wii in stock, though.
If they have official component cables for the Wii in the US, like they do in Japan, why not review those too?
There were other component video brands too. There were also the official Nintendo brand cables, Monster brand cables, and a few other various brands.

a 5 minute review on video cables. awesome.
i wonder when component video will be out for the chintendo vii???
Can we see the difference? or is it too much of a hastle
Worth knowing there is also an (official) Wii RGB cable, which is on par with component in quality and may be more convenient (or not) depending on your setup..
the pal wii rgb scart cable doesn't support 480p

did you buy seperate HD cables? i cant seem to find mine, if there were any.
is component better than rgb scart??
How can a resolution be laggy?
Either the source or the display device can be laggy, but a resolution cannot.
there are a component cable olso for ps2
Very informative!! I'll definitely keep these cables in mind!! Thanks!!
I hope you did. There’s no better way to play the Wii!
when are they going to come out with coax for the wii? that would make the picture quality 10 times better
Name of video cable?
I just bought a component cable for my Wii, but the resolutions are still a bit crappy...

is this better than the rgb cables?
so would that be a new console?
I can never tell which red is which on the back of my TV...
That sucks
I'm Gonna sound like a complete noob but do you NEED an HD TV to use these or can you use a modern day tube tv???
its a shame mine shows black and white my tv doesnt support it i still got the original cables though
I had those wires once. They worked great, except it would not display the picture when I played Virtual Console games.
As a result I eventually replaced it with the official Nintendo component cables.
Hey if anyone knows any places, like retailers or any stores, I can buy these please tell me. Im interested in knowing where they can be bought.
...You did a Wii-related review without duct tape or beer? I'm stunned.
just bought one of these and are totally awesome!
these works fine even with my favorite gamecube game f-zero gx
Where do you buy them?
I had these but I couldn't play Virtual Console games for some reason...
I always wondered what all those other plugs were for on the back the my TV. Now I know. I think I will have to look into buying some of those cables.
what happened to S-video???
Kinda wish they had at least used a cable with composite AND s-video wen they shipped the wii.
Objectified Cross Yeah, like how the initial standard Xbox 360 bundle comes with a composite/component combo cable
TheMamaluigi300 can we agree that the original 360 cable is the greatest av cable ever shipped?
Would these cables work on the GameCube, N64, and SNES?
i’m 13 years late, but no
Monoprice sells Wii component video cables for around 5 dollars shipped.

no it only gives you up to 480p which is just a bit better
I know this is off topic, but my NYKO Intercooler for my Wii just broke today :( I've had it for 8 months
That's true, however I use my HDTV as a monitor to display things like streaming my computer, HD games and Blu-Ray player. I rarely watch broadcast TV with it.
how so?
I had to get third party component video for my wii 2 weeks after it came out because for some reason nintendo didn't put it out themselves.

There is a thing that u can get that u plug it into the back of your wii, and its a big adapter for and HDMI cable.
Now we have the Hyperkin HD cable with HDMI.
How about the wii u
