      The various specialist accessory makers will be tooling-up as we speak. Progressively replace frame/frame components with titanium, go for narrower rims which will support more urban-friendly tyres (Schwalbe Marathon Plus 35-406/1.35) and so on. Brompton will be too wary of tempting people away from their traditional 16" wheel devices to offer these options themselves.

    As a former Bikebuilder I now use a, built from scratch, MTB with oversize, Shimano, double caliber, hydraulic disc brakes, and I love it!
    But I have never felt - any need at all for "better brakes" on my 2019, Superlight Top Brompton (9 kilo), and I have raced down a steep Serpentine road with often Full Stops before passing "Cattle Bars", crossing the road, on foot! My Brompton Brakes never let me down!
    And those new brakes aren't "the real thing" as a "Mechanical Version" don't even come close to the effective function of a Hydraulic Set! Finn. Denmark

      If wanting a "disc brake" on my Brompton, I would buy a titanium, Eastern built Fork for the purpose, and only in front, as I'm able to block the wheel at any time, in the back! And I have found 16" wheels for a disc, also sold from Chinese Firms. They produce also many, also better parts for Brompton like bikes, by that. My former Superlight is down to now below 9kilo, and still with mudguards. Finn. Denmark

    I don’t personally like Brompton associating itself with cars and gravel. I remember when they brought out a sort of gravel edition of the standard Brompton and two guys took their Bromptons on the sleeper train to have an adventure. Now they’re just driving a car. Kind of misses the point to me.
    I’m for a 20 inch version for urban riding. To give people that option for extra comfort for daily use on rough roads and bike paths. That makes sense to scale up the whole bike to match the wheels. But yeah, I don’t really like the branding as it’s being done here.

    • @christill
      @christill 3 месяца назад

      @@traderz13 Perhaps. Although I always just keep my Brompton by my feet on a train. Probably wouldn’t be too hard to do that on an off-peak, empty carriage. And especially not on the sleeper in a private room. Which is what they did last time they highlighted gravel riding.

    • @christill
      @christill 3 месяца назад

      @@traderz13 True. But then if you look at almost all other folding bikes. A lot of them use 20inch wheels as well. And they don’t have the scaled up traditional Brompton fold that this has. And in their marketing, they tend to (or perhaps used to) show them being taken on public transport and so on. So I wouldn’t say it’s that inconceivable that they could promote it that way.

    wasted opportunity of a redesign why didn't they just integrate disk brakes into the og design like some modders have done or increase wheel width compatibility or external gears again like some modders have done, did the designer even research before coming up with this idea, no way is this gonna be flyable as hand luggage nor is it gonna be as hand portable folded being heavier, for international travel maybe? but then may aswell continue with a full sized (lighter) bike for cycle trips maybe theirs a market for convenience over practicality with this model eg not having to remove wheels but personally id rather that than sit below the middle with this, a folder could never compete with an full sized bike but the compact portability of the OG Brompton makes it favourable for foreign travel, so then the folding becomes a gimmick unless your home storage is really limited but then you may as well go with the small og Brompton I don't see the point of this model at all especially since we already have larger established folders on the market🤷🏻‍♂️
