Visit Milan: The Naviglio Grande | Il Naviglio Grande di Milano | Italia Slow Tour

[ ENG ] This is the Naviglio Grande, which links Milan to the Ticino River and, consequently, to Lake Maggiore. Like Holland, this place has barges as well as tucked-away taverns and cafés. This area seems like a northern metropolis when the tram passes by! The Naviglio system was reorganised by Leonardo da Vinci in the 16th century, creating a river to carry traffic that today, of course, all travels by road. Tourists can enjoy the excitement of sailing in Milan on the Naviglio, which was built for sailing.

[ ITA ] Seguiamo Syusy Blady sul Naviglio Grande, il canale che collega il Ticino a Milano e, di conseguenza, anche il Lago Maggiore. Qui si possono trovare delle chiatte proprio come in Olanda, negozietti e baretti. Ci passa pure il tram, sembra una città del nord Europa! Leonardo da Vinci riorganizzò il sistema del Naviglio nel XVI secolo, il che significa che esisteva un canale navigabile per il traffico, che oggigiorno, ovviamente, va tutto quanto su strada. Il Naviglio è stato creato per la navigazione e i turisti qui hanno l'opportunità di provare l'emozione di andare in barca a Milano!

I was stationed aboard an American Navy Ship in Gaeta from '80 to '83 and never made a trip to Milan. I did not know of the canals. If I ever have the good fortune to return to Italy, I shall like to visit there also.
