For anyone who has a Corolla 2003 - 2008 you own the greatest car ever built!
mine is over 300,000 miles and running strong ... Below are some great tips to help you maintain yours :)
Here are some things to check on your Corolla because over the years I've noticed these parts on my mine needing to be replaced around 200,000 miles
    1. If your Corolla sounds LOUD when it's running it's almost always a Crack in the Exhaust Manifold, Not a big deal easy to replace, and makes the car sound new again,
And just looking at it isn't enough ... You have to remove the Exhaust Manifold to really inspect it because the crack runs along the welded seam in the middle,
Also, a great idea to replace both Pipe Gaskets on the Catalytic Converter .. There's one where the Catalytic Converter connects to the Exhaust Manifold
& another on the end where it connects to your Muffler.
2.If your Corolla is starting to waste more gas than normal it almost always needs a New PCV Valve or a new set of Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils ... Again easy to do!
also as a side note if you are at high mileage clean the Throttle Body, Mass Airflow & change the Air Box Filter Also helps ALOT!
3.Change your oil every time the maintenance light pops on usually it's around 5,000 ... I've always changed mine ZERO hesitation ASAP,
I've used the same Oil & Filter for the past 13 Years! Motor Oil Castrol GTX High Mileage 5W-30 75,000 Green Bottle Synthetic Motor Oil,
The oil filter I used is the OEM Toyota Oil Filter 90915-YZZF2.
4.Again if your Corolla is High Mileage and you Notice your oil getting low faster than normal it's most likely the Timing Chain Tensioner ... And i know that sounds Scary
But, it's literally only two 10mm bolts on the back of the engine to swap it out and you don't have to worry about adjusting anything at all ...
Over time what happens is the O-Ring goes bad on this part and leaks a little oil, So replacing it solves the issue.
5.Another thing that could cause your Corolla to leak some oil is the Valve Cover Gasket, Again EXTREMELY EASY to do and takes like 20 mins tops,
If you look where your Spark Plugs are and you see oil in those Spark Plug holes or drips of oil down the side of your engine it needs a new Valve Cover.
6.Okay, This one will Scare away some of you but, replacing the Catalytic Converter (IF YOU NEED TOO) I cannot stress how EASY IT IS!
omfg easily the easiest Catalytic Converter to replace ... FOUR 14mm BOLTS ... I kid you not ... oh yea and the O2 Sensor but come on so easy!
Side note I've purchased only OEM replacements and my method on getting one was simple, Go onto an app like offer up, etc, and look up Corolla Parts or Corolla Part cars
9 times out of 10 the person is parting their crashed Corolla and selling a perfectly good Catalytic Converter for NOTHING ... I paid $150 for a low mile Catalytic Converter and replaced it myself easy peasy!
7.It really doesn't matter what I tell you the Corolla is just EXTREMELY simple to work on and fix and the parts are extremely cheap ... if you have an issue with your Corolla and cannot figure it out let me know I've done it all to mine and fixed it myself everytime.

I was really fortunate. Four years ago I bought a ten year old Corolla with only 65,000 miles on it for $6950. It had been on a dealer's lot for a month but nobody wanted it because it has a manual transmission, which was exactly what I wanted. Since then I've put on almost 50,000 miles and it has been great. It is by far the most reliable maintenance-free car I have ever owned, and I'm 71 years old so that means something. In 2021 I drove it from Minneapolis to Los Angeles, up to San Francisco, down to Arizona, over to Texas and up to Oklahoma City and then home to Minneapolis, and never had a single problem. At one point I got 41 mpg while driving 75 miles per hour. Wonderful, wonderful car. I'm thinking that this car will be my last.

Change the oil every 5,000 miles and you'll get to a million easy. Some things start to break down and need replaced as you get to around 500,000 miles such as wheel bearings, and the alternator.
Another item that I recommend replacing is the air intake manifold gasket. It is a cheap and simple job - just make sure you replace it with the NEW part number. This gasket was notorious for developing air leaks which can cause the engine to run lean.

I purchased my 1999 Corolla CE brand new from the dealer. It just turned 117,000 miles and had its very first tune up. It purrs like a kitten. With the exception of normal maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation) and the replacement of a starter, I have had no problems with it. My mechanic told me my car will last for another twenty four years. Great video!

I just recently got a 2008 Corolla LE with 224k miles for $3900, zero lights on the dash and zero problems. Literally EVERYTHING works on it. Its in pretty good condition too, interior has held up excellently and the outside paint has started to peel on the roof but I plan to get it repainted and refinished. Only about 3 minor dents on it but besides that the car overall is in excellent condition. Very happy with my purchase. 🙌

Does anyone else think the XRS out of the factory came with a lighter / maybe minimalist interior? If you notice the backseats in these LE’s were able to fold down. Which as the back seat in the XRS was just a big piece of foam that is bolted the chassis as well as the x brace once backseat is removed.
Another part that wasn’t on lower trims is the anti roll bar in the front. I know it’s nothing crazy but I just want to know if the x brace and roll bar even function in any way to benefit the chassis or was it just a selling point at the dealership?
front bucket seats from the xrs kinda look the same as the lower trims side by side but with bolsters which are slightly larger so you’re more secure. obviously they aren’t recaros but it’s a nice look with the blue hexagon shaped clothing trimming which match the door panels on all 4 XRS doors.

I've always been a firm believer in Toyota products; especially the Corolla. I own a 2016 Scion iM which is basically a Corolla. 41K when I got her, now I'm at 74k and I've had zero issues. My girlfriends mom has an 07 Matrix with 160k miles on it and it still runs like a champ with no problems other than the stock speakers crapping out. My coworker has an 08 has Corolla with 305,000 miles and he's had no issues with it. He's doesn't drive it much anymore because now he's semi retired but he wants to make it last at least 500,000 miles. His local mechanic assured him thats their goal.

The only reason why I'm asking is because I don't see very many people posting videos on 06. By all means I'm not doing well at all financially I've had my car parked in a garage since. I've had number 4. Cylinder missing. I think ? BUTI was told it's the fuel injector. I have not yet been able to buy the part to fix it. One caveat: Take into consideration location where care is from. I am original owner of a 2003 Toyota Corolla (40,000 miles) yes just 40,000 in NYC. this place really tough on cars. The weather wreaks havoc on fittings and the streets are soooo bad. Pot holes everywhere, unavoidable tore up streets, stop and go traffic. and the dings and bumps when people park next to you. I am currently having the motor mounts and ball joints replaced because of failure due to the streets. Even with all that, it has been a very reliable and safe car and much cheaper to own and operate than replacing with new one. That is why we continue to repair and use the ol' fella.

I used to own this car. 2004 Toyota Corolla at 340k miles. She was hit by some tourist in their rental car. Totaled! So sad. I replaced her with a 2008 Lexus IS 250 because I wanted an upgrade lol. Scotty Kilmer also really loves that Lexus IS model. One thing I miss about my Corolla? Gas mileage! It doesn’t use as much fuel as the Lexus I have now. Regular too, not premium.

This was my VERY first car.
Obviously as a first car it wasnt treated very nicely 😅.
I went into a ditch at decent speeds, I went over curbs a handful of times, I dinged and scratched it a few times and maintance as a broke Highschool and College Student was often done a little late or went unnoticed.
I had a timing belt snap on the highway, I waited SO LONG to do a Spark Plug replacement, Coolant was flushed once at 100,000 miles.
I put my 05 Corolla through hell and it took all of it like a champ!
I can't necessarily say I loved my car, but I sure can say I appreciated how strong and good it was.
Now Im older, I finally understajd maintence better and I've moved on to better/bigger cars but my Corolla will always hold lots of memoires!

First time I got these hilarious codes for any car I’ve owned. It’s truly amazing that all the car needs is a full detail and a full tune up. Just regular maintenance. Literally everything works on the car! Everything! No problems with the car at all. I’m falling in love with the car and it has 225,000 miles on it. But I want better. I love my car though! • @realcarreviews6021
      @realcarreviews6021  5 лет назад +12

Kevin S. - I used to work for Toyota for 20 years as a General Sales Manager. I have seen hundreds of 200K + miles vehicles come in for service and that were traded. My experience has been that those vehicles that had regular oil changes and Basic Maintance didn’t have ring issues. If you are looking at one to purchase, be sure to go to the seller and have them do a “Cold Start” (a completely cold engine) . If a puff of white smoke 💨 comes out of the exhaust, then you have a oil burning issue. If no smoke, be sure to run a CARFAX to look at the intervals of maintenance and be sure the oil was done every 5,000 miles or 10K for synthetic. Thanks for watching and please be sure to subscribe for the latest content! Cheers!

It all comes down to the philosophy they employ in the production process which is called "Kaizen" which means always improving and striving to be better. Just cant beat a toyota for long term reliability, especially there cast iron block diesel Landcruiser or Hilux. Those things will run to the moon and back

Got my ‘05 Corolla S in Feb 2019 with 197k on it, currently at 217k all I’ve had to do besides fluids is front wheel bearings and a new starter. Car runs and sounds great and even is fairly peppy (I have the 5 speed) and this is coming from someone who has owned a WRX, S2000, and a Miata. Easily one of the best most solid cars I’ve had. Burning oil is common on this particular engine especially high miles and mine does, but maybe a 1/2qt per month nothing major just check it once a week at least.
