    All the little tidbits you share are so helpful. These are beautiful. Love the vastness of your studio and how organized you are. It takes a very long time to create all of that. That was refreshing to hear that the tenth one will be perfect. You have such a lot of area that needs shoveling. That was smart of you to buy a plow truck. I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty. It changes the dynamics of your studio I bet.

    Good studio tour. Paragon and the Euclid both just working away. I am doing a single fire in the test kiln today.
    Miss seeing Poubelle hanging around.
    I have not finished watching this yet as I needed to get some stuff taken care of. Another reason is to take a breath as I find myself holding my breath when you are doing goblet stems...wonderful touch.
    I quite enjoy being a jack of all trades as it has come in very handy throughout my life. Besides I wouldn't want to assume that I was a master or an expert. I shy away from those terms knowing that life has so much more to teach me.
    Stay warm!
    Cheers...Freddie

      Forgot to mention about pinky sleeve. I use to make them out of soft leather and use them whenever I did hand stitching on bridle work. Chamois leather would probably work and it might take a few tries to get them just right, remembering shrinkage.

      Hi Freddie. I am firing a test on Ten Moku Gold tonight using the Randys Red ramp profile. The last firing of Randys Red had a surprise piece and I am guessing it was TMG. I do wish I was better at record keeping. I think that would come under master of none.

    Your studio tour was fascinating, thank you so much for sharing! I noticed a couple of lighthouse tankards like the one I bought from you, that I love! I can’t bring myself to drink from it though, it sits in my studio and serves as inspiration. I think the quote you were thinking of is “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

    Hi - found your videos a few days ago - have been watching some of the older ones and I love the fish!!!! watched the video of you making them and then the unpacking of the kiln showing all your finished pieces - if I lived nearby I would buy one - but live in Scotland!!!!! So far away in the "old country"!!!!!!! But they are really great - K

      Just the crawled area, but smear it around the area too

    Always enjoy your videos - your generosity of sharing knowledge and experience is greatly appreciated. "Jack of all trades and master of none" is the phrase I know of. It can be taken as an insult or motivation to focus on a single trade depending on how you look at it. A person can be good at a lot of things or if used to encourage focused excellence - a person strives to be a master of one thing as better than being so-so at many things.

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  2 года назад +1

      That is what I thought, although as a crafts person I have had to be a potter, a sales person, a book keeper, a travelling sales person, a carpenter and many more things since we cannot afford to hire people with all those skills. Jack of all trades is quite an accomplishment in my world.

    • @321ReadysSetG0
      @321ReadysSetG0 2 года назад

      @@Vsmithpots yes I agree, it was how I was raised - it is a good feeling to know the accomplishment of "Jack of all trades" whether through a necessity or personal independence or a combination of both.
      When there is a love and passion for what we do, working hard and the waring of many hats becomes apart of the whole of that. Beings to mind this quote --
      "It is good to love many things for there in lies the true strength and who so ever loves much, preforms much, can accomplish much and what is done in love is well done " Vincent VanGough

    Question, how is a compressor used in a pottery studio?
    Suggestion, a video on laying out and scroll saw cutting your stencils would be interesting.

      The ground is frozen here in Canada, winter is tough. I remember England had a deep freeze when I lived there in the early 80's. My motorcycle cables were frozen and it lasted a week. It lasts 3 months here and we regularly go down below -15C at night. This is one of the warmer areas of Canada because we are on the ocean. I miss the climate of England. Thanks.
