Interesting interview but would have liked to hear answers to questions like how many Daytonas, Subs, GMTs, SkyDwellers etc do they get each year? How often do they get deliveries from Rolex? How do they decide which customers gets them? These are the questions I’d like to hear but they were not asked.
Hi, thanks for the comment. The week before on the show we asked if anyone had any questions they wanted asking and also asked on the facebook group. Some of the questions we asked came from subscribers. I'm not sure Justin would would have been able to answer your question above however. Mayors is a large chain of watch shops who also happen to run that Rolex AD. They buy as a collective from Rolex is my understanding.
Hey, honestly I personally have no reason to doubt Justin, he was honest with me when I went in the store. I took his advise and did get a rolex in less than 2 months. This is the only dedicated Rolex AD I have had experience with so far however.
Interesting interview. I’m not saying your guest is lying, but most ADs don’t just take note of your interests. They play the…buy theses diamonds and jewelry over here and maybe you can get a watch game much more of the time. At which point it’s sometimes less of a premium to just go grey.
Great work again Sam and Kris. The production value and content continue to improve. I really appreciate Justin and what he presented considering he is an active employee in the Rolex business. My take on the example that Kris used on front row concert seats is a little different. I think it’s correct for say Patek, but not so much for Rolex. I think that there are 100000 front row seats with Rolex, they produce more watches than Omega. But something is going on between the company headquarters and how they distribute their products. There is something not quite right there.
@@CasualWatchReviews The prepay is strictly between buyer and AD...it's not with Rolex. Rolex is not entitled to send the AD a watch cos someone paid for it. It doesnt work like that. Moral of the story, NEVER pay unless you are picking it up.
Great interview with good insight from the authorized dealers' perspective. I am still on the interest list at six Rolex ADs for a humble black dial OP36 and have been for six months now. I do not blame the ADs. My father always wanted to see me buy a Rolex before he died and because I was not able to make that happen, my journey cannot be complete without it. My time with my father in his final years (particularly over watches and NBA basketball) has defined me even before his passing four years ago. I cannot help but feel like this experience of trying to get my first Rolex has jaded and tainted my entire watch journey and my sentimentality is transforming into cynicism. I will eventually buy a Rolex and when that day comes, it will be cathartic. There will be tears. I hope it will be a joyful moment rather than a bitter one.
Is there any others you would consider, the grey and blue dial on the datejust look awesome? I would also say that a lot of the Local ADs here are all liked to either so I was on the list for them all by joining the list for one?

I am only interested in getting a black dial OP36 right now and the decision to focus on that particular model is a very long story that goes back 5 or 6 years with many twists and turns. Independent of that, my one backup WAS a blue dial Datejust 36 on a jubilee bracelet and with the fluted bezel but my brother has one incoming so I that crosses it off my list. I am a bit curious about a palm motif dial Datejust (jubilee bracelet w/ fluted bezel) but that dial is definitely something I need to see in person first.
Hey James, it's same here in the UK regarding the OP36 and yet the DJ36 is easier to find. I recently bought a blue dial smooth bezel on Oyster (list £5650). My other watch is the Tudor BB36 which is beautiful and available. I recommend you try it. My third watch is a GMT ceramic which I no longer wear (I have small wrists). I'm on their list for the explorer 36 but who knows if I'll ever get the call!
I think it was more about just being realistic and having option of others you would consider. The OP I got was not even on the list I gave but I fell for it. I actually turned another one down before this one because I didn’t like the look. That was a datejust without the smooth bezel

Shame it's dishonest really. The grey market is flooded with the watches that are so hard to apparently get as ADs. We all know exactly what's going on. It won't stop until we stop it by taking our money across the street.
Very interesting to listen to. I originally went to a Rolex AD to buy the Hulk (didn't know the name at the time), but it was a gift to myself for a major job change. I was laughed out of the store. I ended up getting another watch. After a few years I worked up the nerve to go another Rolex AD and asked to be added to the list. Got a call a little over 6-months later that they had a black Sub date for me. I'm very happy with it and wear it all the time, it feels special, but not as special as my other watch, which was attached to a major life event. I really wish I could celebrate these events with the only jewelry I wear as a man: a watch. Unfortunately the way the process works, even if you get something, it's not necessarily what you're looking for and not in time for that event. I'm hopeful that not being a flipper my AD continues to sell me watches and maybe at some point they'll start coinciding with life events :)
Hey, thanks for commenting. I have talked about this on another show about how Rolex watches were used to measure life events. You would see it in films also. But they have lost that association or will lose it. Wonder if that will have any unintended consequences… probably not but you never know. I’m on the list for a DJ41

I got an OP last year in only a few months... its was not one of the mega desirable colours however, just standard blue. I'm expecting to be on the list for a while because I really want a green dial, green motif or the blue motif dial. I was happy to compromise on the OP a bit but I know I wouldn't be happy if I settled on DJ41 I was not all in on.
So you went to a shop with a view to spend 5 figures on a watch, they treated you like shit so you went elsewhere then went back, begged and then let them take your money for something you didn't want?

Didn’t like what you seemed to suggest on the Omega approach. Throwing out stuff trying to understand what sticks? No. Omega portfolio is amazing and actually, in my view, very competitive vs Rolex, especially now that they rolled out co-axial pretty much across the board. And no fuss about crazy grey market prices. I like Rolex and actually looking into Daytona in the future. Try to be fair to other brands.
Yep I like Omega also, if you watch any of my channel you will see a lot of Omega videos. But I do think when they have a hit its not predictable for them and they do pump out a lot of watches and limited editions to see what sticks. I totally stand by what I said here.

You just never know honestly. I requested a 124060 and got it within three weeks unexpectedly, though I was lucky with this AD before buying an Oyster Perpetual from them just a month prior. Meanwhile with my "main" AD where I had actual spend and a good relationship, they can barely get me a BB58 these days lol
Yep actually your right I waited longer for my BB58 than this one at my local AD when I lived in california. So much so I got asked to be taken off the list. I walked into an AD in Vegas and they had a BB58 right there! I think it just depends like you say!
TLDR Rolex:. Meh. I just don't get it with the Rolex scene. Great watches, perhaps the original tool watches. But the never-ending hype, the discussion, the tsk-tsking over the ridiculously over-inflated prices. IMO this is exactly where Rolex wants to be. You can count me out. There's just too many other great options out there for the MRSP of a Rolex. (And that Cyclops eye, yikes.)
With regard to Flippers, i can understand them being a bit of a plague on the watch community...however surely they only get the chance to do this once and their bridge is burnt with the AD? are there really enough flippers out there distorting the market and taking up the allocations of new watches that the average consumer cant get one? Or is it just there are more average consumers now compared to years back?
In Chicago heard from just about all the ad mouths spend history spend spend history ..! Well I actually had one recently tell me some figures you need to spend to get to a black sub date. $20-30 k and for a green bezel sub $100-150 for the Daytona $350-500k haha I just said ok well it’s just easier to buy it on a grey market then. Hope this helps and hope everyone’s stops just wasting their time. I think it’s bullshit at the end of the day as well. But hey you love Rolex and you want one you have to do what you have to do.
It's been roughly 3 months since I expressed interest in the OP41mm black dial. It is a long-awaited personal gift for graduating with a Master's degree. I always said to myself I will own a Rolex when I was to graduate but I never had the money. 2 years later I am ready to purchase but the AD's are fine to deal with but I don't think I will have much luck. It is really sad cause I know the watch will go to some well-off person or a watch flipper and not a genuine buyer like myself. I don't think the personal stories matter and I believe strongly it is all about how much you are willing to spend. It is sad to realize this but a lesson learned for sure. I will try to refrain from buying anything else other than Rolex cause I know it will result in dissatisfaction in the hope an AD calls one day.
@@CasualWatchReviews yes, he's a genuine guy. The company figures are both hard to find but Omega and Rolex both make 800000 watches PA. It's easy to buy an omega. Rolex registered more COSC watches PA than Omega. Something is wrong. I think it is the dealerships.

Hi, did you watch the whole interview? I managed to buy an OP41mm in blue from this AD, I’m not rich and had never bought from them before.
Maybe you should be asking yourself why you want a Rolex and only a Rolex when there are better watches out there for less money?
