Cant imagine Nene as a poor baby coming from the jungles of Africa [Cameroon]without her family.Thank you to the zoos vets and keepers for the incredible care and love she has received.There was a time after Kiyomasa's birth when she was very ill and came back from that.Like mother and daughter they both have the same facial tics.I love how Ai plays with her and watches over her too.Family is no1 with gorillas.Love you Nene!!!❤❤❤❤

Good to see Nene still having a birthday. She’s a remarkable old lady. She must have been one of those infant zoo captures. Apparently, zoos would ask for wild gorillas and specialized providers would go into the wild gorillas habitats, kill the adults and bring back the infants, which were then hand-reared. Thus they never learned the parenting skills they needed, and their own babies would be hand-reared. Thank goodness that terrible practice has stopped.

I would love to read about this. I tried looking it up but I believe I need to be more exact on the wording. Maybe if I put the country or countries? Maybe I need to put a date in the search? Was this done with the zoos knowledge?
Nene was indeed wild captured as a baby, which must have been terribly traumatic for her. I forgive her a lot regarding her personality not being the nicest because of her early life. Her being a crusty, grouchy old lady gives me life, seeing her do everything on her own terms and giving her the most comfortable old age possible is the least we can do for her. This is a very respectable age for a gorilla in general. I see how mobile she is, how well she takes care of herself. Very good care and a truly human attitude allowed her to live to such a respectable age.

She’s a great mom an while she has made Kiyo into a mamas boy she is fiercely protective an has even gone up against him when he an Annie fought an Nene joined the chase.
