- The Shabani group had been very peaceful recently, but Kiyomasa's behavior that day was unusual.
Shabani intervened and the situation was resolved, but since Nene is old and not strong enough, the zoo needs to make a decision on the future of Kiyomasa and the entire group as soon as possible.
I can only talk casually with one zookeeper, so I will show him this video the next time I see him and ask him to think about it.

Zenger a 65 year old ape in Berlin is cared for at the zoo with her private dwelling. I don’t like zoos but I feel Berlin has done a wonderful job and considerate of their elderly resident. Well done❤

It is complicated for these beautiful apes in captivity. No space. In Germany they have a 60 plus old female ape who has her own living space to retire in peace. I am certain money and space is a factor. We can surmise on this or that behavior💕love is all that matters. I love the whole Shabani family. Tenderness for Nene

It's normal for a maturing blackback to push his mother to the limits. Look how Gentaro was. For the most part, Kiyo isnt an extremely naughty teenager. Nene, well we know she doesn't take any crap. Thats just Nene. Not all gorillas are created the same. That was funny to see Nene and Kiyo rustling around instead of Shabani and Kiyo.🤣🤣🤣 3:55 Looks like Kiyo tormented the s&!t out of Nene.😅
Oh yes, if she could have spanked him she would have. As it is she did try to smack him upside the head. Not something she ever has dared to do to Shabani. She would chase him but if he stopped running, so would she. There is no way she was going to get physical with him. Goes to show you that she is not scared of Kiyo or what he is doing. Just angry and annoyed.

Kiyo is turning into silverback before our eyes❤ he has definitely got bigger! He is starting to get the silverback bum and thighs more😅

Nene still remains feisty as ever. Kiyo means no harm to his mother just poking the bear for sure. Shabani knows the limits he is willing to watch. No matter what he does love his troop. I truly hope once kiyo leaves the troop that Ai and Shabani are able to have a new baby. Annie hopefully won’t be to far behind Kiyo are starting their lives in new troops to carry on and be happy and healthy. Kiyo is going to be a wonderful silverback he had been taught by one of the best fathers.
I disagree, he’s not exhibiting normal behavior an has tried to forcibly mate. Fact is he needs to go. She’s being picked on an they know she’s weaker then they are. She will get hurt. Hoping they move Annie a Kiyo soon
Honestly gorilla females are fully mature years before males are. So Annie would be moved before Kiyo. I mean they can both be moved now, but Annie is as ready now as she will be in a few years when Kiyo is a Silverback and fully developed and the most ready he will be.
@@annemariemcnamara8756 when a Male hits sexual maturity they will try to forcefully mate. That is normal. It is the fault of the zoo for not separating him before now.

I am well aware of the videos you are talking about with Kiyo and Nene I respect the fact you disagree with what I wrote but with my comment I was referring to the current video and my POV is he was just aggravating his mother and it continued to carry on outside and she was tired of it. NeNe is still the alpha male of this troop and they all know that. True she is older but she will not tolerate being picked on. As I said I respect your opinion but we all have rights to view situations differently. I enjoy watching different gorilla families and personalities they are amazing creatures. Do I wish some situations were different for them such as living spaces and enrichments sure but I know I have no control over that and if at anytime I feel a situation bothers me that much I just stop watching the video. I am still looking forward to watching the day when Kiyo and Gentaro have their own troops and Annie, Komomo and Momoka have their own silverback and troop
The crazy thing is that annie didn't do anything. Kyomasa was messing with nene and annie came by and looked like she grabbed the rope to climb up. But when she did, nene was coming down, she saw annie and just turned her rage to her for no reason. It's good that shabani always protects his little girl .
I noticed that, too. I felt bad for Annie but like you said, I'm so glad she has her father always protecting her.❤ I just wish Nene would calm down towards Annie, especially when Annie doesn't do anything.

I miss the old enclosure.. the troupe seemed more interactive over there.. Shabani used to entertain the visitors with his drumming and that famous Shabani kick .. they were definitely more active with big daddy chasing them, all of the time ❤️❤️❤️

You need to go back and truly look at that old enclosure. The concrete enclosure, where Shabani was aggressive. I will take the new one for them any day

It's always odd how the gorillas will get mad and chase when one member of the family oversteps their bounds, messing with another family member. But later on the ones who chased another for messing with a specific family member, will mess with that family member themselves to the same degree.
I think this is happening because Nene let Kiyomasa mate with her before.

Well nene used to spoil Hiyo all the time even kick and bite Annie because of him . People forgets how she was mean to Annie for a long time and against Shabani when he tried to discipline Kiyo and now she needs Shabani to defend her.

@stevemorris6790-from what I was told was when Ai didn't recognize Annie as her daughter...Nene didn't either.Nene saw her as a threat to Kiyomasa who was 7 mos older.Only Shabani and Kiyo really welcomed her.Then Ai came around a bit.But it started with Ai rejecting Annie, as her daughter.

Poor Nene, she gets no respect! Kiyomasa learned this from Shabani who used to torture her constantly. You can tell the females are getting weary of Kiyomasa though - AI seems to leave when he comes around.

Lope is being transferred to a zoo in France I believe. At least that was the latest that I’ve heard on the matter.
Regarding when to move Kiyo, I go back and forth with how I feel about it. Like today, it was really unsettling to see what he was doing to Nene. She probably almost has a heart attack given how he was messing with her while she was so high up and could have easily fallen. But then on other days, I see how much Shabani loves his son and how much he loves playing/rough-housing with him. It’s really the only chance he gets to play and get out aggression . Without Kiyomasa, he won’t really have anyone to play around with and will probably turn to messing with the ladies, potentially similar to how Haoko has been.
If they do move Kiyo, I hope they add a lot more enrichment to make up for the loss of playtime for Shabani and Annie.

Nene was originally going after Kiyo, but then Annie tapped her, so she ran after her instead. Shabani got Nene and stopped her going for Annie. Nene will let Kiyo away alot before she goes to disciple him! It's a different story for Annie, one tap from Annie and she is chasing her.

It's funny to watch nene get mad, there isn't much that she can do, she doesn't have any teeth. I also noticed that when shabani scolded her, she didn't run after him like she normally does. I think there has been a power shift. I don't think nene is the dominant female anymore.
I don't think so either. I think Ai is and that is why she is paying more attention to Annie as well. Just doing her duty as alpha female. Shabani has been paying more attention to her. She keeps her eye on things.
I don’t think I disliked Kiyo more than in this video. He’s a menace problem he needed to be put in his place much earlier on but Nene being overprotective interfered a lot and what we see is a very spoiled boy that’s very immature for his age and far to spoiled by all the females. He behaves as expected sadly

Kiyomasa was just doing behavior that Shabani did to him the other day. Chewing on foot doing hand cross signals. It's a form of getting submission I think. I don't think Kiyomasa needs moved out yet but they took Lope in England out of the troop for similar reasons I believe. Beating Granny up too much 🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍
I think Lope was moved because Oumbie was no longer tolerating him for whatever reason. Oumbie is a different silverback than Shabani. He rejected his first son after said son had to be taken away for a while cause he was sick. When they tried to put him back with the troop, Oumbie wouldn't have it. Shabani still very much tolerates Kiyo. He is not intimidated by him, and Kiyo, while standing up for himself more, still bows down to Shabani. For that reason is why I think Kiyo has more time with the troop. In the wild, not all silverbacks leave the family group. It is common to see several sons of the main silverback hanging around helping defend the troop and waiting for their turn as the leader.

Its sad to see Nene being picked on. she is so gentle but her son wants to hit her. I could not work out who did Shabani go for when Kiyo was hitting Nene. it looked like he was after poor Nene. I suppose Kiyomasa is wanting to show his dominance over his mother. I do hope they sort out somthing now as Nene could be in potential danger from her growing son .Thankyou for sharing

Kiyomasa has always being spoiled by Shabani so he does what he wants. He is clearly getting more annoying to the females who look at him like a child, and Nene being so old could mean big trouble for her health but it seems that he isn't yet rebelling against his father, so sadly I don't think the zoo will do anything yet.
blame the father for what the females have caused. Anytime dad tried to deal with the son the mother and sister turned on him. Nene has what she wanted.
That happens in every group, the silverback is simply too powerful so the rest of the group has to team up against him. Happened with Haoko and happened with Kibabu his father (there is even a video)@@gregsutton2400
