- What would Mario Odyssey look like without Mario? Today we try to answer that question by playing through a Mario Odyssey challenge that removes Mario from the game and lets you complete the whole thing as Cappy! This was a ton of fun so enjoy the video!

Cappy is trapped in a grief fueled delusion after learning about Marios death to the mafia while Cappy was stuck in prison. He is stuck reliving the adventures he had with mario, but stuck journeying on without him
Oh yeah, in a previous Fir video, Mario was indebted to the Mafia and losing coins every second, and hoping Peach could relieve him of his debt, but he died to the Mafia. That's a great callback, and headcanon for the story of this video.
Until he finds Mario's skeleton and decides to bring it along because he couldn't ever accept that Mario was dead
In the meantime, Luigi is controlling the peach kidnapping industry.

The only thing that would make the mod even better is if Mario is put in the skeleton outfit in the very beginning. Then Cappy is legitimately carrying around his skeleton and hallucinating the entire time xD
Imagine if the body started off a little pale and would transition from kingdom to kingdom. It would get more pale until it became a zombie, and more and more flesh would disappear until moon kingdom when Mario would be just a skeleton
Cappy is already a ghost, he met mario as a ghost, and he took over his hat. Meaning only cappy had physical form. But mario was just chilling with you the whole time.
My theory is that when Mario died, he possessed the nearest living thing he could find (Cappy) and that's why you see Mario in cutscenes, he comes out for the cutscene and goes back in. And when clepto steals "Cappy" clepto steals cappy's soul and for the rest of the video Mario is possessing cappy's body without Cappy in it at all. In the festival, no one recognized Cappy for who he actually was and didn't let him participate in the festival.

Cappy sacrificed the plumber that gave his life value, all for Creative Mode with guilt jumpscares.
To be fair, he couldn’t have done anything, if you can’t capture the Dino in deep woods when it’s awake, then he prob can’t capture bowser
This is all in Cappy’s mind, and he’s reliving the adventures to cope with Mario’s passing
Lore that I made up on the spot: This takes place five years after SMO, and Mario has died. Cappy is so depressed that he just wants to relive his old memories to the point that he hallucinates Mario. Cappy, now thinking that Mario had secretly survived, goes through all the old kingdoms that they once went through together and collecting all the same moons that they once had.
That's such a good theory! :D

Obviously Mario is a lich, and he made the living Cappy his phylactery. When you speak with NPCs, when Mario manifests, it is because Cappy has summoned him, his dread master. It's only at the end when we see the true decayed form of the Eldritch Necromancer
Cappy's been a ghost the whole time, everyone knows you can't kill a ghost.
I like how nearly everything becomes easier with cappy on his own. He didn't even need mario, cappy was the main character this whole time
I can't believe fir finally played my favourite game: Super Odyssey. Seen nobody talk about this game despite it being one of the best games ever made.

i think the reason cappy didn’t just do this in the base game is because he’s (for lack of a better word) cowardly, you see him run away from mario when they meet in the base game, mario helped cappy have the confidence to go save his sister, so i guess in this mod we just have a hyper confident cappy being haunted by the ghost of mario who wants to see this cap guy save the princess of the mushroom kingdom and his sister, following this idea the cappy that you see get taken by klepto that can’t be interacted with is the metaphorical remnant of the timid boy cappy once was

So the usefullness of Mario in Mario Odissey is help cappy with his social anxiety by talking to every NPC
Try playing Mario Odyssey without pressing the ground pound buttons. (You can use two player to make it possible) I have tried it before and it will make a great video, you can use crappy to ground pound.
And it will add an extra challenge

Isn't it obvious? The captures all have MARIO'S mustache, MARIO talks to the NPCs, MARIO dances to celebrate getting a moon? Guys. It IS Mario. When Mario died, he sent his spirit to possess Cappy! But don't worry, Cappy wasn't dead, of course not! Until Klepto. Klepto took Cappy's spirit, who was obviously unable to renter his body. After the Klepto encounter, you're playing as Mario... and Mario alone. Then why does Cappy still dance with Mario to celebrate moons!? His spirit is following his body, having recognized Mario controlling it. Tell me if I've missed anything.

Cappy always had the power to defeat Bowser, but wasn't able to believe in himself until Mario died and he was the only one left to try.

When you realize, Cappy is immortal, and it would have been easier for him to go beat up Bowser and save Peach then it would be for Mario to do it himself.
There's two timelines. One where Mario performed the one-up trick successfully, and one where he failed the one-up trick. This is the timeline where he failed.

My headcanon is that Mario isn't actually dead, but got badly injured by the fall but still wants to go see Peach, so he's tagging along, but not actually participating really in the difficult stuff-

Can you beat Mario Odyssey without the Odyssey?
The Odyssey's gone so you can only use paintings to traverse through kingdoms. But the game's also modded so that each painting is unlocked and let's you travel to the normal version of each kingdom to stop you from getting softlocked.
Maybe we should add a painting randomizer while we're at it XD
Cappy is stuck in a coma after the real Odyssey ended and coma spirit decided "what would Odyssey be like without Mario" and everyone else inside the coma is worried about Cappy, but they're also somewhat aware, like 4th wall breaking kind of aware, they just can't tell Cappy anything except the things they did say irl.
Meanwhile, irl, everybody is just sad and mourning, 'cause the possibility of Cappy being stuck in a coma forever is a very real, high possibility, so they're mourning
My brother used to always call this game "cappy". I guess it's fitting now....

Theory: mario died, and possesed the body of cappy. This would explain mario floating above cappy, and it would also explain him becoming visible and dancing with "cappy" during the moon animation.

Alternate take. Rather then trauma. Cappy comes the dying Mario who tells him what happened.
Cappy respects the fallen mario by taking the form of his cap and promising to save Peach for him.
Mario’s ghost sticks around because he’s Mario he does what he wants
Mario's ghost is giving Cappy advice and cheering for him throughout when he gets a moon. (And apparently talking to NPC's for him)
This is a story we can all relate to. We have all dealt with loss, some of us deal with it harder than others. Cappy clearly was battling some powerful demons at the loss of his dear friend, Mario. During this story, we see Cappy fighting giant bunnies, sentiant tanks, a giant robot worm, and bowser. All of which are metaphors to the fights we as people go through and the fight Cappy is going through. During Lost Kingdom, we see Cappy come face to face with his trauma and no matter what he tried, his trauma would not acknowledge him. This made Cappy leave his baggage and move on, unbeknownst to the positive change this will have on him. The last half of the game we see Cappy over coming his trauma, this is doubly true during the Cappy celebration in Metro. We see several moments where Cappy changes his appearance, getting a "new hat" this was a metaphor for the changes Cappy was going through during this trauma. We see, by the end of the story, Cappy over coming his grief enough to safe Tiara and Peach. Though he may still struggle with the loss, the journey Cappy went on help him. And really, at the end of the day, perhaps the biggest journey is the traumas we had along the way.
