Cilla has the most "stage presence" and smoothness of delivery of ANY female artist of the 60s - 80s.. Her words are distinct and her feeling for the songs she sings are "real". YOU ARE MY WORLD is the best female song I ever heard from the 50s thru 80s.
cilla was a great singer, she had 11 top 10 hits in 7 years, she sang this great song and it went to no2 in the charts in 65,even cilla said she prefered the original version,i seen cilla singing live in 08 and she was brilliant, cilla is fab.
To all the ppl making fun of a SUPER singer like Cilla... what's up ? Cilla's surname was changed from White to Black after the fantastic colour of her voice... She was working at the Cavern club when a fella said 'Wot's she's doin'here..she must be singing in the Apollo along Aretha Franklin &co!... wise comment indeed.
I remember watching tv shows in telly when living in London 1990´s. What golden memories... I remember Cilla Black presenting television shows, and what a a nice and warm hearted lady she was! She had the ability to make you feel at home and enjoying yourself. I have good memories of her. What a great voice she has! She´s just so unpretencious, nothing fake about her. It´s her warm heartedness that comes to mind when remembering her despite her having such a great talent. Many people are talented, but fewer have a kind heart, like Cilla Black had. She was also very fortunate in that she had a loving and caring husband.
i think she has a very special voice. you can like it or hate it. i personally love it, because it's not like everything else that you can find on youtube. if you don't like it don't watch it!
So sad. What a fantastic lady ! "I believe in love . . . " Part of my teen years - embedded in my mind and memories. God bless . . . and thank you so much Philip in Exeter
I can always remember my nan listening to this on the goldies oldies radio station Cilla such a diva !! Miss her smile sense of humour taraaa chuck always remembered.X
A great voice and a great person, one of the good people that we should never forget. the best is always going. A fall was what ended his life. Poor Cilla. He was still young.
Per: www.oldiesmusic.com/news.htm A statue of the late Cilla Black will be unveiled Monday (January 16th, 2017) outside Liverpool's Cavern Club where the singer once worked in the cloakroom. The statue was funded by her three sons and donated to the city. Cilla died 17 months ago at the age of 72. A plaque at the bottom will read "You're My World" in honor of her biggest hit. In the U.S.A. she had three records make Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... And between 1963 and 1993 she had twenty one hits on the United Kingdom's Singles chart; eleven made the Top 10* with two reaching #1, "Anyone Who Had A Heart" and "You're My World", both in 1964... May she R.I.P. * Her covered version of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" reached #2 {for 1 week}, that very same week the Righteous Brothers original version of the record was at #3 {The #1 record was "Go Now" by the Moody Blues}...
Those people who say she was just karaokeing - why do you have to be playing an instrument to be called talent. She can sing!! At least she can sing live - not like a lot of artists today who mime because they need a studio to make them sound good. I wonder how she got so successful if she is not talented???
On this day in 1965 {January 28th} a covered version of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by Cilla Black peaked at #2 {for 1 week} on United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles* chart, for the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Go Now" by the Moody Blues... Also at the same time, the record in the #3 position was the original version of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers... Cilla's version peaked at #15 on the Australian Kent Music Report chart... Between 1963 and 1993 the Liverpool, England native had twenty-one records on the UK Singles chart, eleven made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Anyone Who Had A Heart" for three weeks in February of 1964 and "You're My World" for four weeks in May of 1964... One of her twenty-one charted records was a duet with Dusty Springfield, "Heart and Soul", which reached #75 in 1993... Cilla Black, born Priscilla Maria Veronica White, passed away at the age of 72 on August 1st, 2015... May she R.I.P. * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the UK Top 50 Singles Top 10 on January 28th, 1965: At #4. "Yeh Yeh" by Georgie Fame #5. "Come Tomorrow" by Manfred Mann #6. "Tired of Waiting For You" by the Kinks #7. "Terry" by Twinkle #8. "Girl Don't Come" by Sandie Shaw #9. "Ferry Cross The Mersey" by Gerry and the Pacemakers #10. "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" by the Sounds Orchestral
This is the Cilla I will always remember and think of. I was a little girl and I thought she was wonderful. No nose job and her teeth were crooked. A huge talent. A HUGE voice. She could have been a primadonna in any opera house had her voice been trained. I'm glad to have been around then and I'm glad that young people are beginning to say, "Cilla Black was good,."
That's why the Righteous Brother's version is the most played record in the history of pop and Cilla's is largely forgotten. All because of a newspaper advert over 40 years ago. if you believe that you'll believe anything.
Thanks for bringing up Petula. We definitely cannot leave her out as a major UK female artist. According to Wikipedia, "With more than 70 million records sold worldwide, she is the most successful British female solo recording artist and is cited as such in the Guinness Book of World Records." That's pretty impressive!
what id give to go back to the sixties and live it all again ,cilla the beatles and Elvis..what great days they were..the world today is shit in comparison,,,,
I'm a Yank who has loved the Righteous Brothers version since Day One; guess what? I just heard of Cilla Black, and her version of this song, for the first time about five minutes ago, and I say it's damn good!!!!! Sure, it's hard to follow in the footsteps of a gigantic original, but I believe this lady pulled it off! Also, remember the poor sound quality of a video that's over 40 years old. I think she did quite well!
@ lakings13... Agree,... her name is Cilla White ... in Liverpool the ppl used to call her 'Black' ... ' Black voice Cilla White ' &co... since then ..Cillia Black! Love you Cilla p
(CC'd) Good christ she's good. Reminds me of the wife, shes also good, that makes Cilla the second person's singing thats brought a tear to my eye and thats saying a lot since she's a lot Country and i'm a lot Punk (ya go figure and nearly 14yrs later STILL happy). ]:o)
She rolled up at The Cavern one night and asked to sing with the Beatles. Ringo asked her her name and she said "Priscilla White." Ringo suggested the name Cilla Black because he thought she had a dark voice.
I met her on two separate occasions and spent quite some time talking to her and others at the evening. I love Liverpool and have a few Liverpudlian close friends who do indeed very much love 'pool. She definitely cultivated her accent as it was a big part of her persona. She sang Happy Birthday at one of the evenings and by god she was awful. It was embarrassing.
Cilla Black was an exceptional singer then and now. You cannot even compare her with Dusty Springfield. If you are a singer, you know a voice when you hear it. I know that some people envy her, well, that's your problem. She was fantastic !
Love the Duets with Dusty, it's flower, but the lyrics have a depth as much as they are reed of contempary feeling, wish Dusty was still here to sing with Cilla again, but at least there is always Sandy and Lulu, happy flower powe time..Robert xx xx
It seems that no matter how good a singer is, there is always some non musically educated clown who will bag the singer without having the faintest idea why. Such is the case with a couple of "armchair crirics" regarding Cilla Blacks voice. The best endorsement to the quality, or lack of, to someone's singing voice is NOT always their records, but to hear them live. I was priviledged to hear Cilla sing live with a 25 piece orchestra in Australia in 1966. Absolute powerful voice & brilliant show.
Someone here said Cilla stole other’s songs. In the 50's/60's UK companies would often cover a big American hit. There were sometimes a few artists competing as companies tried to grab sales of a popular song. Cilla so impressed Burt Bacharach that when he wrote Alfie (based on a British film of the time) he gave it straight to Cilla and even flew to England to personally supervise the recording session. It was recorded "live" and it remains one of the most iconic records of the 60's
@Isleworthful According to Wikipedia, the original version was performed by The Righteous Brothers in 1965, Dionne Warwick did not record the song until 1969.
The fact that you came here to post this, means you are LITERALLY comparing her to The Righteous Brothers. Maybe you don't know what the word "compare" means?
What a great voice ! And a beautiful song ! That's a winning combination ! Bravo Cilla ! 🙂👍❤️
Wow...she hit it perfectly when the song breaks down and builds back up 👏👏
R.I.P. Sweet lady, you left your footprints in the world of entertainment that will never be filled.
Cilla has the most "stage presence" and smoothness of delivery of ANY female artist of the 60s - 80s.. Her words are distinct and her feeling for the songs she sings are "real". YOU ARE MY WORLD is the best female song I ever heard from the 50s thru 80s.
Cilla Black, Beatles, Roy Orbison.... sounds of my childhood. Fantastic!! :-)
Always loved Cilla Blacks singing she was one of my favourite singers back in the 60s.
This is the Cilla that my teenage years grew up with.
Original and untouched.
Loved and Cherished.
cilla was a great singer, she had 11 top 10 hits in 7 years, she sang this great song and it went to no2 in the charts in 65,even cilla said she prefered the original version,i seen cilla singing live in 08 and she was brilliant, cilla is fab.
Jaisus! Yer wan there Cilla truly had an enormous and very powerful voice. Small wonder that she was so successful (PBUH)
MsG
Wonderful, powerful voice - a beautiful performance by the one and only Cilla Black. So raw, so alive and real. I adore it!
A powerfully brilliant artist who always looked and dressed perfectly. She also was as a personalty charming, down to earth, bright and honest.
Rip cilla ... Lovely lady with a great voice xx
Sue Brown
OMG!!! The best version ever!!
She lifted my spirits and the conviction of her voice is phenomenal.Love you Cilla
as she got older...her voice was as good as in those early years..then came Blind Date !!
Great of Cilla to acknowledge that Righteous Brothers being no 1 was better Cilla was no 2 in charts at the same time.💖💖💖
Great voice. Beautiful girl. No wonder this song went to no. 2 in it's released. I enjoyed it very much.

Beautiful, powerful vocals! RIP Cilla 💕
I have said before It took Cilla to get this to no 2 but two Righteous brothers to get it to no 1.
This is Cilla at her very best.
She was just b4 my era but I can see why she had great appeal. Lots of charisma/charm etc. and a great powerful voice. Good on ya Cilla!

I was so much in love with her
i love and appreciate all of Cillas music if you dont it well you are deaf
This was no.2 in the UK chart while the Righteous Brothers were at no.1 with the SAME SONG! Imagine that now?
Un classique de la soul !!!
Cilla brilliant singer with great songs. Pity there's not an artist who can sing one of her songs now.
You're not spending enough time in the downtown New York cabaret scene.
I agree completely. She's truly one of a kind.
A great voice and a great person, one of the good people that we should never forget. the best is always going. A fall was what ended his life. Poor Cilla. He was still young.
excellent cilla an ambassador to sixties music & still working keep going girl
Cilla had a tremendously powerful voice, and unique
I adore this version. Villa songs her heart out, just beautiful

Cilla could really "nail" a song and I don't think many people are aware nowadays of the amount of very good stuff she did in the 60s .
So sad - a lovely lady xxx
Agreed, I love it too. X
Cilla will be sorely missed.
60s Pop Queen. R.I.P. Cilla.
A dynamic example of an exclusive pop era that was the 60's.
The song "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" has been adopted as a terrace chant by Nottingham Forest fans.

Reuben Light such a looser wonder what people will say about you behind your dead body
Great woman in the world
R.I.P.
great old song i love het
Ive thought in other ones Shirley Bassey and Julie Andrews last one is more popular as actress than singer but she got a tremendous voice and talent
I've never seen this before! Awesome, thanks for posting. Liverpool was just awash in amazing talent, wasn't it?
. . . Cilla Black.
"Step Inside Love" is one of my favorites. I understand you too ...
:-))

It took two guy's to get this to No1, but only Cilla to get it to No 2.
Nice.

60's singers and bands was lyrics you could understand x
I love her haircut.
In the early sixties singers were not really expected to gyrate around as they do today. Attitudes were changing in the mid sixties.
