    Thanks a lot for sharing. It helps a lot. I am around your stage, being able to standup and pump for a few times than SINK after a few days of trying! Will keep trying! Thanks again.

      The 1150 is definitely a good option especially if you weigh less than me. If you weigh a l lot I would consider the 1310

    That was paintful to watch. But, it is reality. I cracked a rib last Saturday, and as soon as it heals I'm ready to partake in my own dock start adventure. Thanks so much for letting me know what to expect!

    It's crazy how psychological it actually is! That's what I learnt for sure haha! Such a good video. Love the honesty.

      Want to try again with the technique the kids do where they keep their arms on the board till they’re basically on the board.

      @@wingmanfoilclub yeah I tried that later on and just couldn’t get it to work. I’m sure it’s a better technique to learn as you say. It will translate well to beach starts which is what I’m aiming for next.

    Ah. Thanks for this great and wildly entertaining video. I can so relate to the frustration and need for stubbornness in order to proceed and succeed. It looks so easy until you try it. Exactly how my entry into wing foiling has been. Keep on trying!

      My only talent is stubbornness. I need to try again but wind has been good! Doing lots of pumping with the wing luffing though

    Thank you for sharing your failures with us. My 12 year old just got off the water after his first tries. After limited success, I think he felt a little discouraged. All the other videos made it look easy. Now we know different. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Thanks again.

      @wingmanfoilclub  2 года назад

      Glad to know it was helpful to see. And don’t forget I have hundreds of hours on foil as a winger. And I started windsurfing at 12 and was a high level kiter at one time.
      Instagram is not reality! Tell him to keep trying and let us know when he gets it! It’s been windy here so I haven’t tried again. But I’ve been working on my pumping on the bumps while winging. It will happen soon. And remind him learning is the most fun. Once you get good at something it’s a little boring!

    As for your question at ~14:30: you were turning because you leaned to much to your front side which got the foil rolling in that direction. But that was a great attempt! About your mast length: the 82cm mast is probably fine for your dock too. If you look at the footage: any time you push the board the nose immediately comes up (due to the lift the 1150 provides). Hence you have to jump up instead of forward. You want to create a forward momentum when you land on the board...

  • @Hdip
    @Hdip 2 года назад +1

    The eternal argument. BFF or FFF. Back foot first is how a skim boarder would run onto a skimboard.
    I’m a front first guy on a skimboard too. I’d say do it whichever way is most comfortable for you.
    Good tip in here with the gps clip. The foil has to be above its stall speed. So you have to be going 6mph for the 1150 to glide. Get on and glide is the most important first step.

      Nice! If you’re big and just want to dock start maybe 1300. If you’re not too big or want to also use the foil for wing maybe 1150.

Still not as good as you but I'm using an old 1200sqcm naish L foil...dont feel like spending money yet on a newer foil system...maybe a naish Thruster XL or Slingshot Quantum 100 if I can get a cheap one or

    I switched up to the p450 stabalizer and 1150 front from a 1020 and 500 rear (I could consistently land but pumping was a challenge). I am novice and it was too much of a jump for my skill set. Switched back to the 500 rear and it was game on. Will be onto the p450 in a few weeks hopefully. It looks like you have a high aspect rear wing there. Maybe try a 500

    @Andp1980 2 года назад

    Keep trying! You made progress! I just saw a main difference between you and him: he is putting his front foot first, you are putting the back foot first. Do you think it will be easier to put the front foot first?

    • @wingmanfoilclub
      @wingmanfoilclub  2 года назад +2

      Wow good spot! I didn’t even notice. I’ll try it. I did feel that trying to land at the same time was working better for me. Front foot first might make it glide better.
      And don’t worry. I’m much too stubborn to give up.

    • @cyp13
      @cyp13 Год назад

      I am still learning too. But I am in a similar place with Wingman! I noticed a difference that occurs before landing on the board. Joe is jumping off his back foot while running on the dock , while Wingman (like me) jumps off his front foot and then brings that front foot again forward while in the air to land properly on the board. I think it takes more energy and is harder to do a smooth stable landing on the board this way. I am struggling to make the change to jump off my back foot, I get totally out of sync when I try it

    Where did you install the strap?

    • @wingmanfoilclub
      @wingmanfoilclub  2 года назад

      On the first attempt I just used a foot strap on the opposite side inserts from where I normally ride (I’m regular and put the foot strap on the goofy side).
      On the second attempt, I took some webbing and put it straight across from the two highest foot strap holes and screwed right through the webbing with a washer. Both worked well.

  • @dave9940

    I've not tried dock starting yet but I think you are landing on the board too back foot heavy.
    Good stuff though:)

    • @wingmanfoilclub

      I’m not light of foot! I haven’t really tried dock starting seriously since them. If I was going to try again I would work on landing back foot first and keeping my hands on the board longer till my feet were basically on.
