Dear Ben, you are such a sensible and fun guy with a conscience! I'm from the US, and I like to window shop at Harrod's. When they have a sale, you might get one or two things that are just expensive (down from horribly expensive!). I'm anxious to see your 5 star cheapest hotel. London has become mega expensive however there is still value for money if you know the city. I smiled when you said Harrods was quiet because of the prices, try going in the height of the Summer tourist season and it’s more like Waterloo Station (London’s largest) Yes there are many problems living there but he’s right there’s no greater city on Earth but don’t think you really know it until you’ve lived there for at least 20 years 😂😂
This is one of the best videos showing the Belgravia area of London. Those houses are indeed - beyond anything you find in other cities. You showed some of the allies between the buildings. They are called "Mews". Fact is - they were where the horses and the carriages and the people in charge of transporting the "Lords and the Ladies" from an to "royal parties and other events". In other words - the horse stables. Thank you, keep enjoying yourself and please let us participate. The deco of the hotel gives me a 3-star hotel vibes but considers the price you paid and spacious room with breakfast included and the spa facilities, it is pretty good.

Hi Ben, talk about history! Not sure if you know, but there was a community of former slaves and immigrants located in what is now Central Park called Seneca Village. Being allowed to serve customers at Harrods is one of the most honorable thing to some people. Harrods is more than a Department-Store. It is a Legend.
The only things worth seeing in Harrods are the food halls, which unfortunately cater more for tourists these days, and for pure camp, the Egyptian escalators.

I know Belgravia is an expensive area but I find it a bit ‘meh’ with too much traffic and not enough trees and plants. I prefer the area around Holland Park and south of it around Edwardes Square. Also the area between Brompton Rd and Hyde Park. Prettier, more character and a lot quieter. My mum used to work for a well-known choreographer who owned a house in that area and she loved working there.
Back when I was in a young backpacker and started in London in 1989, the phone boxes of course were used because cell phones were not invented except for the very large ones. The phone boxes had measured time which means you had to keep putting money in to be able to speak longer so you usually decided ahead of time what you’re going to say and just kept to your message.

Dear Ben, you are such a sensible and fun guy with a conscience! I'm from the US, and I like to window shop at Harrod's.

Hi Ben, talk about history! Not sure if you know, but there was a community of former slaves and immigrants located in what is now Central Park called Seneca Village. I worked on a refurbishment in Kensington Palace Gardens and it was opposite the Russian embassy and it didn't take me long to work out that it was no ordinary house as it was not easy to walk in there, it had largely sponged floors and the walls were covered in sheets of cork also there was no kitchen or furniture.

Back when I was in a young backpacker and started in London in 1989, the phone boxes of course were used because cell phones were not invented except for the very large ones.
