I suspect the actual reason they dumped Jack Perry in water on screen is so they had an excuse for him looking wet, which meant they could cover him in fire retardant gel for more safety during the fire spot. You weren't supposed to assume he'd been pre-soaked with petroleum, as a real flamethrower just does that when you're shot by it.

I mean if I was covering a show this long, after doing a PLE the night before AND the regular week of wrestling programs, I'd be exchausted too, so I'm grateful for the effort. And that PPV was the most fun I've had watching wrestling in a while.

I love you guys, long term listener but I do feel your critic of the show length is motivated by the fact you have to watch, make notes, then do a live review straight after. I'd feel the same if I was in your shoes but 99.999% of watchers aren't
Speaking for myself I really didn't feel the length at all. I pay alot of money for these shows and do NOT want 5 matches in 3 hours. I want bang for my buck. As long as the length of the show doesn't have a noticeable negative effect on the show (ala wm32) and considering the crowd were super hot for all the main events I dont think it did.
Maybe skip the pre show or do your reviews following day

I don’t disagree that our obligations have an effect on this talking point, just as your personal life will have an effect on your satisfaction with the show’s length, but looking at general discourse about the show from non-critics, this remains a big topic of debate.
What’s your personal limit? If they went 8 hours would that be providing more value for you if the crowd stayed hot? That number is different for everyone and I definitely feel 5-6 hrs is pushing it for many.
I think there’s a sweet spot between delivering something of value and something that doesn’t exhaust a large portion of your audience. As long as it remains a talking point among audiences beyond us, I think there’s room for refinement. -W

@POSTWrestling thanks for replying. I agree it depends on everyone's situation and I don't think there is some magic perfect number. I personally don't watch the pre show, will catch next day if anything noteworthy on them. So for me it was just 4 & half hour watch which I found fine. AEW ppvs are the best things in wrestling really so I'm firmly in the camp of give me as much as you can as long as it's of high quality overall package. Which I think last night mostly was.
AEW's ppvs are like the only part of their bussiness which hasn't seen a big decline and they are usually always universally praised by fans and critics. So in a world of more condensed PPV/PLE cards, I think they should be applauded for what they are giving fans each month or so and encouraged to continue
I'm sure some fans thought it was too long, but forums I read I've not seen it as a majority concern. But the internet is a big place. I usually stick to AEW friendly spaces so could be in a bubble. Trying to find somewhere to have a sensible discussion about AEW online can be tricky...
But I get your points, everyones viewing situations are different. What's fine for me, isn't fine for everyone, regardless of whether they are podcaster or a parent or whatever.
Eitherway, I really appreciate the hard work you guys do so please don't take my initial comment as a dig at the work you do. You guys provide easily one of the best if not the best wrestling coverage in the world. I really enjoyed your review of the show (well maybe it was a bit too short 😜) and will continue to listen to you guys.Peace X

These guys seem to be exhausted and they've got a 3 hour Raw to do today.

So now that The Elite x Team AEW had their first match be an Anarchy in the Arena match... Where does that angle go? Are they going to have standard matches going forward?

So what does Willow do now, i can just about handle her being on Rampage, she better be nowhere near Collision, the C show.

Learning tree is coming along, but they need to figure out something quickly for Hook as this is just not working now.
Takeshita is impressive, but wow they don't have him in any compelling angles. He's got it all and Callis is just not doing it as a manager for him and the promos. Ospreay also is suffering in the Callis family. The match with Strong might have been a fine one and the promos passabe, but when you see them in the ring and given the size of Ospreay it just doesn't seem like Strong is in his class (hopefully Ospreay can make the international belt something very prestigous.) Not a fan of Orange Cassidy especially after he's been in so many shows recently - his act needs to be reworked and maybe turning heal with the Callis will work. Kyle Fletcher another great talent wasting away. Pac should mainly be singles wrestler.
Hook, Strong, Perry, Cassidy, Shibata, and Nick Wayne have a lot of talent. Would be great to see them in the ring together, but hard to see any of these matches making a lot of sense with their current characters. Nick Wayne probably in a great roll with the Patriarchy much like a young Hook learning the ropes and growing on screen.
Really enjoyed Swerve with Prince Nana especially the entrance. Swerve on his own for weeks before this was not working for me.
Tag teams overall seem lacking on AEW. And the Ladies are gold right now and they should probably be getting more air time with Mercedes landing. AEW with Storm, Willow and Mercedes has an incredible roster and the differences with WWE are not so stark (style). They have a chance to beat WWE badly with the ladies division. Cargill is awesome, but still limited in her work so she's not ready to carry WWE and will have Belair tied to her for some time. Mercedes >>> Bailey. Willow is building quickly and approaching the magnetism of Rhea Ripley (who is going to be out a long time.) AEW has a chance to surpass WWE if they just can get in those extra matches and put the ladies more forward. Probably need to do Tag Team to ever get there and you can see what a great crutch that has been for Cargill.

Think they are reading too much into Mone's vid. Those iconic figures are simply examples of what her message was. She wasnt equating herself to them at all. Its like saying be the best and never accept being 2nd best and fhen you show Ali, Gretzky and Jordan. Those are best examples of greatness.

@colinmathie2710 First off, they're not. Second, the show already had at least 3 matches that could have easily been done on TV. So adding another was in nobody's best interest.

Book it right now, The Elite vs. FTR, Bryan Danielson, Darby Allin, and Swerve Strickland will be the Blood and Guts Match on the July 24th Episode of AEW Dynamite. Hangman Page will be a member of The Elite. Could Hangman Page make his return on Dynamite this week like MJF did during Sunday Night's Card? By the way, MJF vs. Adam Cole is going to be one of the big matches at AEW All In this August. I could see that being the first ever 3 Stages of Hell Match in AEW History.

As a first time AEW PPV watcher I was shocked by how bored and lifeless it was for the most part. And that main event was utterly moronic. Maybe one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Are all their PPVs like this?

I loved the PPV. Good matches, aside from Jericho. Anarchy in the Arena is supposed to be wacky, all out and just plain crazy. So I don't feel the same way. Ppl in the Arena said the crowd was great.
