    RGB LED strips: USA amzn.to/2LbDjoo | UK amzn.to/2xyyTX2 | GER amzn.to/2kJPJsE *
    This is how to power rgb led strip lights with a battery aka powerbank. The powerbank has an output of 5V so we need to step up the voltage to 12V with a step-up module. In this video tutorial I'll show you how to wire everything and demonstrate the functionality.

      hi there im trying to run a power up connected to a step up 5v-12v to run a 12v led lights, but the led lights would only flicker and then die off in abit, but it would be running at about 10-11v on the step up but it is not the brightest as it can't hit 12v. im using a 20k power bank 2.1a output and the led is 10 strips, 3LED per strips

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 года назад

      I had the same result on my triangle light. The reason is that the power bank is simply too weak and can't deliver enough current and will then shut itself off. The solution to this problem is to shorten the strips until it gets stable.

    I hooked a 6 foot multicolor and mode 5 volt LED Light strip with adjustable light output from AuraLed that has a USB cable meant to be powered from a computer or smart TV and hooked it up to a 5000mAh duel USB battery/charger pack from Walmart and ran them at full power for over 6 hours with only a 30% power usage from the charger. Didn't have to cut or splice any wires, use a power converter or anything. Just plugged em in and turned them on. Works great for hanging off a backpack, a tent light or any other portable application. Best part was price, lights $4.98, power charger $7.99, total...$13.87 with tax. All at walmart, even though I hate that store.

    i wouldnt be needing a step up device if my powerbank output is 5V to 12V right? it says it can go up to 1.5A, can it power around 3m strip? i computed if its 2A per 5m, then ill only be needing 1.28A? thanks for answering

    Thank you for sharing this. I use 5V USB-LED-strips built into my guitars (am a luthier based in Japan.). I have yet to find a power bank without a "power switch" or turning itself off. The guitars are closed, the power bank is in the body. There is a lid to open and close, but it is a pain in the butt to always switch on the power bank first. The LEDs shall be operated only by the remote. Any advise on that? All models I tried so far have the same problem. LEDs cannot be switched on only via remote without activating the power bank first. Help plz. Getting gray hair. USB C to A adaptors didn't do it either.

      There are Powerbanks that have a low current mode meant for smart watches and similar small devices that can’t be charged at your normal 5V 1A (which is now a dinosaur of a charging protocol since nearly everything charges at 5V 2A minimum now).
      The low current mode exists as a manual “stay on” switch since the current (usually 50-100ma) is below the threshold that most powerbanks have for the current needed to tell the device something is plugged in and charging so stay on. So if you are only charging your Apple Watch it would normally not keep the powerbank on. The powerbank would see there is barely any current being pulled, assume the device plugged in is no longer charging and switch off to save battery but on most powerbanks with this feature you either hold the button for 3 seconds or double or triple tap.
      The alternative is to skip the powerbank circuit since that is what is causing you issues. Go straight to lithium cells (can be dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing! Seriously don’t just start fucking around with lithium cells without doing research) and use a circuit that gives you what you need. There are tons of simple 5V-32V USB Buck Regulators that can handle that wide voltage range and output 5V into a USB port. I don’t think any of them have any real brains of any kind to auto shutdown the pack. Or even easier would be a USB boost converter that uses one 3.6/3.7V lithium cell (or several in parallel) to bring the voltage up to 5V. The reason why you go this route is because there is a charger circuit for 1 lithium cell in series (as many as you want in parallel) called the TP4056 or TC4056. Charges at max 1 amp and the rate is adjustable. Charging 2 cells in series complicates things because the cells need a balancing circuit don’t go that route. Do a 1S_P pack and use enough in parallel to give you 10,000 or 20,000mah. There are also slightly faster chargers, don’t use the TP5100 it’s garbage, use the “5V2A charge discharge module”. You could have an input jack mounted on the guitar running to the charging input on the module for 5V2A charging with a separate output capable of 5V2A or 10W. Hopefully that is enough power for you?
      I would probably use pouch cells. You can get big ones that are 10000mah or more. So 3 of those would be a 1S3P pack or just a 3P pack. 1 cell in series for 3.6/3.7V (most cells are like 3.625 which is why you’ll see 3.6 and 3.7 nominal or average voltage) 3 cells in parallel. Those 3 in parallel combine their capacity for 30000mah or 30 amp hours (30Ah).

    Hi there, i have a question:- can you convert 220 volt Christmas led lights to run on power bank or on 9volt dc supply or 12 volt dc supply?

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 года назад

      Very hard question, possibly yes... Just look at the power brick data... Then you'll know more. If there is no power brick and the bulbs are configured for 220V then you can't do it.

    A little off topic to your video but maybe someone can help. When I plug in a USB led strip directly to my power bank, the LEDs flash with very low brightness, around once a second. When I power on the power bank, the LEDs power on as usual, nice and bright.
    How do I stop the LEDs from drawing power when the power bank is off?

      Oh I just had a Déjà vu right there hahaha 🤣

    Please help me! I am looking forward to make this project but i have a few questions.
    1. I have a power bank with 2.1 A output will it work for my 5m Led strip 300 LED (60LED/M) -- The Led is rated for 2A so should work good i guess. ?
    2. How long will the led strip work for a 10,000 mAh power bank?
    3. As you said will the power bank deactivate when using with led strip or it deactivates if there is no led strip?4. Is this project safe? like no chances of shorts or sparks something like that?
    Please Reply!

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  5 лет назад +1

      First of all see this video (also answer to question 4) which will make this project super easy:
      ruclips.net/video/LFCl8_Sp0eA/видео.html
      If you're new to DIY stuff I'd recommend the approach from the mentioned video.
      Yes I think a 2A output can power a strip up to 5m. I fried a power bank while trying to power a 6m strip. So the shorter - the safer. The LED strip is not really in danger if that's the question.
      2. if the strip is rated for 2A then your 10k mAh bank = 10Ah can power it for 5 hours. (10Ah / 2A = 5h)
      3. my power bank has an auto off function which will activate when there's no significant power output. 5m will definitely get registered but this depends on the model.
