Excellent Paul.. great to see the hike from another perspective whilst it’s still fresh in the memory. Now i’ve done the hike I can appreciate WHW videos even more. Looking forward to part 2. 👍🏼 Oh That pizza as well 😍 certainly does the job after hiking.
It was beautiful to see Loch Lomond, I had the pleasure of stopping at Cashel with my wife on our tour of Scotland to get married in Gretna. it bought back some wondeful memories. Thank you!

hope you enjoy the rest of your WHW. Seeing all those folks makes me glad I did it all the month before it officially opened (all those years ago) no campsites then just stopped when you wanted- but you had to carry all your stuff. thanks for sharing. ATB
Enjoyed the video, look forward to seeing the next episode.Nice to see it’s not being hiked with very light gear and at speed great-see it as you went along.
Finished the West Highland Way 2 weeks ago. Nice little hike. Like your Equipment, especial you Atom Packs Backpack and your Windmaster Stove. Can't wait to see the next episodes.
Great video Paul. I did the walk last September with some friends and thoroughly enjoyed. Bringing back some great memories. You even camped in the exact spot we were on at Drymen😊 As you said looking after your feet is the key to completing it. Good luck and hope you both enjoy the rest of your trip 👍
Always enjoy your episodes and this was no exception. Thanks for making these videos. I’m getting too old to get out myself but like to be reminded of what it was like.
I did this trail just after lock down lifted and it was pretty amazing...best weather I could have asked for and minimal people on trail it was bliss and definately what got me into the long distance hiking
Easy does it Paul. Best way to experience it at its best. I've done it in all weathers countless times and there's always something different, a new companion for a bit or familiar views in different kinds of light. I'm off up that way again tomorrow morning. ATB.
I finished the WHW and Ben Nevis and got back home on 8th May, glorious weather and fantastic views along with meeting superb people from all over the globe, truly a majestic walk to do, good luck to anyone who gives it a try, you won't regret it.
Enjoy your trek! Good choice of tent, my solar photon 2 has seen me through on many great adventures. Wise words on taking a sensible time to enjoy the route
Nice one. I did this a few years back in 4 days, including taking in Ben Nevis on the last day. If I did it again, I'd follow your plan. Much more sensible!
I'm up there myself next month on a kayak camping trip around Loch Lomond hoping to see the Wallabies. Great video matey with some beautiful views. That's a good tip with the food bags, I will remember that one.
one of the best things you said was “I just want to experience it”. It’s not a race, it’s a trek/walk at your own pace. Hopefully it’s triggered a spark to do a longer hike…..
Lovely video Paul looking forward to the next few looks a stunning walk and lovely scenery enjoy and I think you have the perfect walking companion sounds like you will have a good laugh too along the way..all the best 👍
I pulled an entire bin bag of trash of conic when I did the whw. Including a single walking book, a jumper and a pillow. Take your trash with you people!
What a way to end day two….beautiful sunset, utter quiet, apart from the evening birdsong and a well earned sleep in nature….cant beat it. Looking forward to the rest of the trip. It’s great to see someone take it over 7 days to really take it in…..definitely isn’t a race and it’s not like you’ll be back up next weekend if ya miss something. Proper order. Cheers
He took an unbrella 😂😂 Paul you're one of a kind mate. Fair play for taking on the WHW I hope you enjoy it and aren't just doing it for the channel buddy. Keep it up.
A lot of long trail backpackers carry an umbrellas in the US especially on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail to shelter from the sun as much as from the rain. you can get clips for your backpack so you can go hands free.
On a warm day in the rain, I get more wet inside my rain jacket from sweating that I do from the rain. A brolly is perfect for warm weather, as long as it's not blowing too much.
Update to my previous comment: I did The Minigaig Pass in May (32 miles). The Lairig Ghru via a longer route in July (40 miles). I'm starting the West Highland Way on Monday. Bit nervous 😱🤣
Tough hike 😂..I buzzed that off in a couple of days in April. But seriously I did and it's like a motorway compared to the great glen Way which is truly glorious.much less accessible and trodden...
Oh that's just how I prefer to do things by way. Long days. Previously I did it over a longer period and relaxed more so no criticism intended and each to their own
Depends what you're measuring, volume of water or total area? If the volume of actual water then loch Ness has over double that of loch Neagh. Loch Lomond has a larger total area than loch ness but has nowhere near the same volume and loch ness is over 3 times the average depth of loch Lomond. And when comparing loch Ness and loch Neagh in terms of average depth then loch Ness is about 12 times as deep.
@@robertmccrea1957 that's not the point, the point is that he doesn't specify what he means by "large". Large is not a measure of anything, so you don't know exactly what he's comparing.
@@northernswedenstories1028 he did specify surface area. But the definition of GB, UK and British Isles is where the argument lies. Lough Neagh has a surface area of 147 sq miles making it the largest in UK. Lough Lomond by surface area as specified in the vid is largest in GB
Hello Paul. This reactive outdoor 3 second tent is advertised all over the place. Obviously not an Aficionado's tent but any good as a camp site addition or even used on a short walk local camp ?
Enjoyed the video. I think Liam Brown also did this walk a few weeks ago. I recognised the sign next to Costas. Filled up on toasted sandwiches before the walk I'm betting. Still a large amount of walking every day. How are your feet coping?
Fabulous video Paul. Any reason you were using a schnozzel bag rather than a flextail pump/lantern to inflate the pad? Are you happy with the pad after several nights on it now?
Very happy with the pad. It is very comfortable, kept me warm and didn’t lose any air at all. I chose the schnozzel as I wanted one less thing that may needed charging. Phone and camera were the priority on this trip. The pump works great but I couldn’t guarantee places to charge up if needed.
I walked the West Highland Way last year, so it is great to see your take on it and I look forward to your next video. I would echo what others have said about taking 7 days for the walk, that seems to be what most other people do, and with a very popular walk it is great to bump into and chat with the same people over the course of the trip. Very different from the Cumbria Way, where you hardly see anyone else doing the same trip.
Hopefully not brutal - I enjoy Paul’s videos because he’s just an ordinary bloke going for a walk and a camp out. Strolling not stomping is the way to cover big miles 🙂
@#paulmessner is that a solar panel charger on your rucksack???? Have been thinking about getting the "big blue " one .... if it is can you let me know if it was worth the weight and money??... thanks. Take care out there.

That will be the guy who called his subscribers "wet wipes" and stuck the finger up at them.

Glad to see they're putting in a proper path on conic hill, it's a very popular tourist spot and has been suffering from some serious erosion.

It’s a really lovely walk - fabulous scenery enjoy !
Great timing, as I am planning on doing the start to Tyndrum in late August, having already done Tyndrum to Fort William 😀
Nice video Paul, thanks. I really like the videos like this where you make a journey, so much more interesting than a one nighter on Kinder.

How do Paul. At this stage of my life, I definitely share your approach to long-distance footpaths 😉. Look forward to the next instalment.
