    When the original Honda HR-V made its debut in the late nineties, the Japanese brand hailed it as the ‘Joy Machine’. The latest model may not be as unique as the original, but it incorporates several hybrid elements to make it one of the most efficient small SUVs you can buy. But are low running costs enough to make the HR-V a good choice against a list of compelling rivals? Rich finds out.

    I wonder if the US will get this same model or if Honda will offer a hybrid version of the 2023 HR-V that they started making on the civic's platform. I kind of like the looks of this one better, but the HR-V that is based on the civic is more roomy. Will ne interesting to see what happens.

      Fair point, and an important consideration for family-car buyers. Thing is, the HR-V isn't really big enough for most families!

    A family member who bought one of these cars now regrets doing so, engine revs it's head off (noise very bad) on slight incline, mpg lowest 43-53mpg average. I am now cancelling my order after waiting 9 months not as good as drive as people make out. Also normal motorway driving revs it's head off even when battery is full it does not switch over to EV

      Sorry to hear about your friend. I just bought it and I will let you know what I think when it arrives. One of my best friends is a Mecchanic and said it is a great car. I last had a Volvo V50, what crappy quality since they sold half of the company to China! Perhaps your family member just got bad luck as I did with my Volov that I sent to be destroyed after only 10 years and 290,000 km! I hope you have good luck with whatr car you buy.....let us know!

    If I had to choose a new car to replace my aging Fiesta , would I go for this , No! Much prefer the likes of the Ford Puma, as it has something to offer me that Honda never did and I have test driven several of the Honda range but never actually put money down and this would be the same for this HR-V as it does nothing for me, except back away at a high rate of knots.

      Puma is a good car and deserving of the praise it gets, but it’s going after a different audience to this and is not a hybrid.

      @@stephenwakeman3074 Yes Stephen but its controls are exactly the same as them that I am accustomed to with the Fiesta and I like Ford cars over Japanese and prefer my ICE to Hybrids as we are sadly devoid of as many power/charge points as we would like up here In Aberdeenshire.

    Grossly overpriced, as are all hybrid and EV..Once all the companies have bought EVs and Hybrids for staff, these manufacturers will have no choice but to slash prices, as they are simply in affordable for normal working class people, otherwise, millions of cars will gather dust at the ports..

    • @tattoodrdoke
      @tattoodrdoke Год назад

      The average consumer will not be able to afford a hybrid or electric car as it still relatively new and still developing. It will be the second hand market the average working class person will pick it up as battery and charging improves.

      @@waynekerrr9027 I think once we know if a battery can be changed so you have an efficient battery it should be less of a problem but it doesn't feel like we are there yet. It's still a slightly niche market until there are less petrol and diesel cars on the road. I would get one but not for the next 10 years until technology and maintenance has improved.
