The hushpuppies I grew up with, were bigger, they were made with regular coarse yellow cornmeal, (thus tasting very much like cornbread! Mmmnn!) and they always had onion, onion powder, garlic powder. Sometimes a variation was made we called; Texas Style hushpuppies and cumin, chili powder, and chopped jalapenos or a small can of drained green chilies was added... I still make them the same way...
Ig i would call the same style without the onions or peppers kansas style since that's basically what I've always has as a kansas boy even at long john silvers or red lobster I might add garlic in the future tho
I have been following you for a while. I just want to tell you that, I REALLY LOVE your channel. I love the way how you demonstrate the cooking methods. The meals I have tried with your recipe are AMAZING so far! Thank you so much for having this channel and sharing it with us.
This was great! And it totally makes alot! I reduced by ~1/3, made them pretty large, and still had leftover batter after a family of 5 ate. Thank you for this! ❤
Been wanting to learn how to make these forever. Thanks allot chef. Also idk if you've already done one but I'm positive I've heard you mention being from the chi-town burbs area. Please do a chicago style Italian beef. There only one youtuber who has properly done it and I know that you'd knock it out of the park. Edit: I typed this before starting the video and you mentioning chicago lol.
I have never deep fried anything in oil, but my grandson really wants these. Questions: Save oil? How? And how do I dispose of it when the oil when it can’t be reused? Thank you.
You have to get creative lol, I sometimes save the oil bottle and place the old oil back into the container and dump it. There are also some oil containers you can find on Amazon.
Fry potatoes in the oil to clean the oil . Put the oil in a container and reuse it . Same goes for when you fry fish . Only thing is save the oil to fry fish or hush puppies in . Works like a charm .
Lo único delicioso 🤤👌de jhon long silvers son los hush puppies 👌👌👌😍😍 so good 10/10 no body Can beat them but only hush puppies are fenomenal there lol wow wow wow 🤩 delicious 🤤
So I tried this..... I'm not that great of a chef. In fact on a scale of 1-10 Id place myself at a 3 or a 4. I know how to do certain things but my general understanding on most techniques is non-existent. Something happened with my batter. I used milk instead of Buttermilk because I personally don't like buttermilk. Anyway, I noticed he said WHOLE MILK and I used 2% Milk. So I'm guessing that that's where I messed up? (With me it could have been a number of things) The batter was very runny. So I had to add in ALOT of flour to correct it. I also found it was very hard to control the temp of my oil. First time in they burned at the 3 minute mark, but my temp was almost 400. So I turned it down and that helped out. Hushpuppies came out pretty dense on the inside. Guessing that's from all the flour I had to add. Disappointed, but happy I at least gave it a go.
@@alexbowman7330 What settings would you use on the air-fryer or what temperature would you use on a stove? Do you cover them while they are cooking? How long should they cook? Thank you.
I loved this recipe!
I added corn , jalapeño ,and garlic !
so we'll start the diet NEXT week
Hahaha...too funny
Hell yes.
As someone who grew up in the south their whole life I can confirm that this is southern cooking in a nutshell specifically white southerners
That's what I been saying for the last 52 weeks
Na just eat less of what you want and fill the gap with fresh veggies and fruits lol

I like how you suggested adding the vinegar to regular milk to make butter milk. Great lesson too👍🏽
Than you sir. I worked for LJS for 7.5 years. Yes I believe you just hit this out of the park. Blessings to you

Billy, you are my favorite. 82 year old grandma
Looks good but I hate when people don't put the recipe in the description box.

This was "so easy" Took me less than three minutes start to finish!
Wow, such a realistic recipe.
This is great. I'm speculating that the origin of the name "hush puppy" is that it's a quick and simple dog treat.
I notice the fryer handel is pointing out to you? Always have handels pointing away from you. Hot oil burns? It only takes that one time.
My Puppies turned out great! Thanks mate.
I can't wait to try these. I like them with some fresh squeezed lemon before I bite into them :)
Short and sweet video, let's go!!
Great technique, but where is the sugar, garlic, celery, and (bell, or hot) peppers? Old school FL Keys style had more to offer. Try!
Just made these quick simple and easy and they are good thank you
Nice and I agree, start my diet next week!
Looks so good recipe you made, thank you for sharing your recipe.
Add chopped jalapeños or bacon. Mmmmmm.

This is a general question. Can we substitute cornmeal with semolina?
Dont forget sweet corn for southern hush puppies
You are my hero!
We ate our hushpuppies with fish/seafood and with fried chicken! Anything fried
Best hush puppies I ever ate was at the Lynnhaven Fish House in Virginia Beach. Sadly it no longer exists.😢
I will try tonight Billy.😃
Thank you, headed to my kitchen THIS MOMENT!-
Great video chef! Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you Sir 👍and have a great weekend ❤️
Is that how you make butter milk? I might try that actually. Thanks for sharing ❤
If you put the batter in the fridge for a bit, would it make them more crispy?

"Capri" and "Donnaree" Janet also asked if it must be refrigerated. Must it?
Take the seed out first, but adding a finely diced Jalapeño would be nice.
Looks delicious
I ♥ your recipes! YUMMY!!!!! ♥
thanks for the receipe
Gonna try this recipe this weekend!
Love this video! Thank you!
Now I need the Long John Silver's copycat fish batter recipe..plz
We know that when Jesus performed the miracle of the loaves and fishes, he served fried catfish with hush puppies.

How much merriment do you use a cup of or 2 of flour ?
Awesome
Baking SODA? or Baking POWDER?
Thank you

In my cabinet is a box of cake flour, that is going unused. What do tu/vous think of cake flour?
Delicious 😋.. thanks for sharing Sir!👍
Thank you great chef for great video.🌼
Is there an alternative to eggs in this recipe? I want to make these for a friend, but she's allergic
How much is "some" buttermilk?
Am I the only one that likes butter on hush puppies?
can we get the recipe or how you get it
Mine turned out awesome!🥰
Excellent!
No baking powder?
What's the best way to reheat them?
Skillet, oven or air fryer.

Hey love the video! Are you okay? You seem a little down.....
You don't put chopped clams in them? On the eastcoast that is what hushpuppies are.
Alguém pode me passar a receita em português do Brasil?
What did you do to round them up? That wasn't your spoon spoon bunch Sir...
um...making ANYTHING better that LJS does not sound like a challenging goal to aspire to. 😐
I cant see tge measurements white type on a white background.
brother used a jesse pinkman sized measuring cup to add oil to the pot lmao
Dont forget to replant them onions. ^^ make more for later.
"better than long john silvers" .... whatever dude
Yummyyy
Indian makes it with chickpea flour and calls em pakoda Or pakora.
Why You don’t use grams in your recipe?
Americans don’t use the metric system. You can easily find a conversion chart on the internet.
@@DanielBPastor
Of course I can use conversion tables, but it would be user-friendly to mention grams in addition to ounces, pints, gallons.🙂
Long John Silver? Hush puppies?
LGS' hush puppies BUT BETTER
Wrong channel :)
where's the garlic powder?
What's wrong with his audio lately? He should get ahold of Adam Curry to help him out.
Better than LJS? Not exactly setting the bar all that high are ya?😂🤣
Ouch..... how about Red Lobster than? Is that better?
@@pavelow235 Nothing personal. Everyone has their favorites. And I'm admittedly a bit of a hush puppy snob. ; )
@@taylorlibby7642 personally I rly like Long John Silvers cus the very oniony flavor 🧅
@@Ttcw89 Like I said, just my opinion. I grew up on the Outer Banks, so hush puppies are pretty much my native food. ; )
So it's basically...fried cornbread?
Ingredients look good, but you over-fried them a bit.
The recipe is good, but metric units given don't make sense.
Instrutions on how to "reheat and serve" : please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
any hush puppies are better than Long John Silvers hush puppies
Re heat lol
They look burned, that oil was too hot!!!
Did not turn out flavorful for me ☹️
You need more salt and pepper then
no jalapenos ...pass
I followed the recipe exactly and honestly it wasn't very good.No taste whatsoever.Way too bland.
Bland almost always means lack of salt and pepper.
😮 man can't you just put your recipe in the more section like most people that want to make it easy on their subscribers or people looking for recipes
