- "The Whistling Bird," a second season episode of SUPERMAN, is often overlooked, but it gives us plenty to like. Sterling Holloway is back as Uncle Oscar... and this time he's accompanied by his niece, Nancy, played by Allene Roberts. Jack Larson often told me that he liked working with Holloway and that the veteran actor gave him pointers that improved his performances. There is also an evident fondness between Allene Roberts and Jack Larson... though it is more clearly seen in other segments of the episode. This was Allene's third appearance on Superman having previously played Alice in "The Haunted Lighthouse" and Maria Moleska in "The Monkey Mystery," both first season episodes. I also like the nighttime flying scene seen in this clip.
Winnie the Pooh was one of my favorite Superman guest stars.

OMG 😱. I got the same rush of adrenaline when Superman jumped out the window and they played that music, as I did as a kid! Oh, weird as it's been a while.

Cub Olsen gets soaked every other episode. Sometimes George had to get soaked to handle the scripts.
He got thoroughly soaked when he did a guest appearance as Superman on "I love Lucy."
George Reeves was believable because he seemed so sincere as Superman.

In “Superman” #210 from 1968, Superman swallows a crook’s grenade, saying to himself that it barely tickled. Later, when Clark samples one of Lois’ home-baked cookies, he says to himself: “Home baked? Ugh! Willie’s granade had more flavor…”.

0:30 It would have made more sense for Jimmy and Uncle Oscar to boost Nancy up, since she is lighter than Jimmy, and Jimmy and Uncle Oscar are bigger and probably stronger. It would also have allowed Nancy to play a more prominent role.
