    Thanks for this video. A local shop wanted to charge me 5 hours of labot for this, and it took me less than 20 minutes.

    Thank you, this is just what I needed to change my filter. After watching this, the whole job was over and done within 15 minutes max!

    After reading so many people having trouble doing this I was dubious if it was worth the effort. After watching this video I figured I'd give it ago and it was so easy, honestly! Took me all of 5minutes thanks to your pointers! Only thing I will say is that there's no need to pull hard on the fuse box, just feel at the top for the tab apply gentle pressure and it comes straight off. Hardest part was getting the new filter on without any damage but in the end that was easy too, I just compressed the filter down as much as it would go without forcing it I was then left with a filter half the size to manoeuvre into position and it made it a doddle! Thanks for the video it made a awful job a piece of cake!!!!!

      I got quoted 850 from a local mechanic. He said "there's a good chance my tech will break a plastic part swapping it, and it might cost $600 to replace. Needless to say, I'm gonna do it myself.

    The clip on the fuse box is on the top, it is awkward to find but as soon as you press it releases and you can easily full forward the housing.

    Wow, great video. I watched many videos and this is the only one that explained how to pull the fuse panel off (i was worried about breaking the top tab you cant see or feel). Not an easy job but it is DIY with patience.

    There is a tab on the upper left side of this fusebox,towards the firewall, hard to find but can feel it with a finger. Gently press down and it releases without any force applied
    Took me 15 min to replace the filter, hardest part was to replace the filter itselves
    Have a XC70 2014

    You need a 25 star bit to remove the screws under the glove compartment. The key to the entire job for the average first-timer is at time 2:21 into the video. Put your left hand at the top of the assembly and pull back and down HARD, perhaps at a 30-45 degree angle.This will free the plug assembly from the metal bracket where it is snapped into place only at the top. The bottom of the assembly has 2 slits that the plug assembly rests in. The bottom of the assembly really doesn't want to pull straight back because of this. It is not necessary to detach the blue plug from the assembly. finally compress your new filter like an accordion so that it is more flexible if using the MANN CUK2733 filter.

    Thanks! The hardest part was to remove the fuse box, I almost gave up starting to disassemble the glove box...you just need to find the small tab at the top by filling and push it.

    This video is really really helpful. I eventually changed it after about 40 minutes. The key was what you mentioned that one has to pull the fuse box quite hard. I wasted more than 30 minutes following the Mann instruction which indicates that one needs to press a clip then one can just draw out the fuse housing. THAT IS NOT TRUE. Just do as tha video says,'Pull Hard'.

    I replaced mine recently. It was almost rotten after sitting there for 5 years because the previous owner hadn't bothered to make sure that the assholes at the garage actually replaced it as part of the service plan. At least the crap hadn't got through the filter, but the other side was covered with dirt. I didn't buy an original filter because spending that much money is out of the question. Anyway, it's almost impossible to get a filter in there without using some force, which means that there could be some kind of damage to it. As long as the side facing the fan is intact, it should be ok. The filter might actually straighten itself out once inside over time.

    I did notice that after I changed the filter, my auto windows did not roll all the way up or down with one click. I had to hold the button in position to open or close the window fully. Not sure what happened when things were unplugged during this process. It was easy to reprogram the windows again, but I definitely wasn’t expecting that.

    such a bad design by volvo. They are trying to make it difficult for DIY. I bet even their technicians don't like changing the filter.

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  7 лет назад +2

      I agree, they could easily have made it so you have good access and it's a pop it out and pop it in, but nope. They could make it easy and most owners will still have the dealer do it because that is the typical Luxury car owner. I myself, hate paying others and more importantly being stuck to their time frame of when they can service.

    How the hell you can remove that cover ..I broke two pins off and I didn't even manage to make it move

  • @michaelmarrah473
    @michaelmarrah473 7 лет назад +3

    Do NOT just pull really hard on the top of the fuse. at 2.25 what you are touching is the tab that you push down on to release the catch on the white metal tab. it does not move much, but just enough for it to pop off. if you pull hard, its likely you'll break the plastic tab. nice video though. very helpful walk through on a really horrible design. worst part is trying to get the new filter in without destroying it.

    • @kyriakostas
      @kyriakostas 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks, without your comment I would have broken the fuse box latch if I just pulled hard. Easier way is to place left thumb on the tab and press while pulling out. No need to pull hard. And as mentioned the worst part is to insert the new filter in.

    The politically correct term for the person who designed the placement of the cabin filter would be "special."

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  6 лет назад

      it's pretty awkward to change it, in 70,000 miles I've done it the once. I probably should do it again.

  • @RM-bp7zg

    This is such a bitch of a job. I've don't it twice. Never again. Really should be accessible from behind the glove box.

  • @timj41

    This has really put me off buying this car, even the dealer could mess this up

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  6 лет назад

      It's just a cabin filter, but yeah they could have designed it better no doubt in that. Considering I think we are at 70,000 now and I only did it once. I probably should do it again.
