Stoked. This is a type of paladin I've wanted for awhile. The Paladin of Vengeance is basically just playing the punisher. Which is dope, but this kind of Paladin is going to make a great addition to the game. Lots of Warhammer vibes.
If you look up Unearthed Arcana on D&D's website you can find Oath of Conquest Paladin already for play Original media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/UAPaladin_SO_20161219_1.pdf Revised media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/June5UA_RevisedClassOptv1.pdf Revised it was they're referring to in the video, and frankly the better edition of it lol
Dungeon Dad I’m playing one right now who truly wants to become God Emperor of mankind. He’s truly good, but any who would prey on society and war on each other will be punished, swiftly.
Oath of Conquest reminds me Superman in the Injustice comics. He no longer believes in humanities abilities to keep themselves safe and pure, so he bends them to his will through subjugation.
I really enjoy the idea of internal strife within the order. It makes an automatic hook to introducing the subclass into a campaign as well as just being an interesting draw. Very nice.
Oath of Conquest "I feel no responsibility to comrades who've lost lives under my command. Because they chose to fight in each battle.. Just as I chose this. But if there is something that... I can do for them. Something I can do for the dead... Then it is to win! I must keep winning to attain my dream. The same one they clung to, and risked their lives for!! To realize my dream, I will perch on top of their corpses.. It is a blood-smeared dream, after all. I don't regret or feel guilty about it.. But to risk thousands of lives while never getting myself dirty. It's not a dream that can be so easily realized!" - Griffith
Mongol General: This is good, but what is best in life? Mongol: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair. Mongol General: Wrong! Conan! What is best in life? Conan: To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women. Mongol General: That is good! That is good. Maybe not the most accurate depiction but it's what I imagine every time I hear the name Oath of Conquest.
It would be really cool to play as an oath of conquest paladin who had intents on asserting dominance over barbarian tribes infamous for raiding and destroying small villages. The paladin could call out the leader of the tribe and just say "No more" as he vanquishes the creature and gains the title of chieftain for himself before leading the tribe into a new peaceful era of harmony with civilization
Good aligned Oath of Conquest: Darth Revan. The Old Republic is too weak too survive the upcoming struggle, I must embrase the dark side and conquer it to make it stronger.
I had a Neutral Good Aasimar Conquest Paladin that I loved playing. "W-wait, your an angel right? aren't you supposed to have mercy?" "You and I must have met different angels, mate."
Might use this to help make 3 kingdoms Cao Cao, he wanted to end the chaos of the land but he believed that only he can do that and he believed violence was needed to put the chaos down
Interesting idea. What went into my head when hearing this was a paladin who gets their powers from a deity, but ultimately serves a nation/city/kingdom and spreads their influence, regardless of what they personally believe.
Nicholas Didato That could work but personally that sounds more like Oath of The Crown. I see what you mean though, I'm thinking maybe like an evil kingdom or some sort of extreme king could have Oath of Conquest Paladins serve him
That's true. Almost forgot about the Crown Oath. That's the one where it's made to help allies in battle. Conquest seems more self-oriented, but I guess we'll see its setup next month.
Oathbreakers are, by definition, evil. They broke the most sacred thing for them and that made them delusional. A conquest oathbreaker basically it's just a rebel that want an order to collapse down with any mean. I see what you mean (" the evil empire is killing innocents, the paladin can't stand by it" ) but since the paladin was so vowed to that it can't just simply drop it. Dropping it means losing the will to live basically. I would rather allow a specialization swap, with due time, to a more stereotipically good-aligned oath after the paladin seeks redemption, instead of falling to oathbreaker.
That would probably be an oath of redemption unfortunately. I wish that you could spin an oath breaker as good, but they’ve unfortunately planted it into evil much too firmly.
Just breaking your oath means you lose your paladin powers. To become an oathbreaker paladin, you need to break your oath FOR evil, FOR selfish ambition for power.
A devotion Paladin will jump in front of a strike to protect someone, a vengeance Paladin will smash heads with righteous fury, a conquest Paladin will break an enemies willpower and spirit.
In all honesty, I love the Oath of Conquest the most out of all Paladin oaths in 5e. There is so much that can be done with backgrounds with the implied harshness of the oath, the relation to devils, and their view of what is right. The Oath of Conquest, in my opinion, makes for very interesting, multi-dimensional characters, moreso than most other oaths.
my paladin who is a fallen angel Banadus was an angle of Bahamut. She was created during that last few years of the last great war between the gods. She followed bahamut for many years after that serving him. OIne day she grew tired of serving him and wished to be free. Asmodeus saw this and offered her freedom in exchange For her to attack Bahamut. She took this deal that atemted to attack Bahamut. She failed and was hunted into exial. After returning to Asmodeus now with the lose of her left arm he gave her an arm of a monster and banished her to the material plane as well as making her a Fallen Angle. Now she romes the world enjoying her freedom and causeing caos in Asmodeus's name.
I'm playing a Conquest paladin. He rules through fear; very Machiavellian. I used my Channel Divinity today to keep my own party in line! They're my bitches now!
Explaining the oaths through songs. If you've got any suggestions, feel free to let me know. I'm trying to have each oath come from a different band, but we'll see. Devotion: Sabaton-Last stand Ancients: ??? Vengeance: Even though I listen to punk rock sometimes, my memory sucks Conquest: Disturbed-Land of confusion/vengeful one
Not sure about Anderson. He might be a Paladin (in the DnD sense), or he might be some kind of Cleric. Honestly, I'd rather try to reproduce Anderson in a different game, like Mage: The Ascension.
I played a oath of conquest paladin as a red dragon born who became an immortal tyrant by scaring the personification of death into submission so while you may kill him temporarily he will raise again and cleave your head from your shoulders
That's very interesting... obviously he later became an Oathbreaker, but I always considered him under the Oath of Vengeance, especially with his sworn revenge on Mal'ganis and whatnot. But maybe you're right. He may have had some Oath of Conquest in there too, especially after he became the Lich King.
Abelhawk maybe he was oath of conquest up to when he first killed kel’thuzad or when he culled stratholme, then vengeance, then after frostmourne oathbreaker?
Oath of Conquest Dragonborne wielding his Holy Avenger “Death to those who stand before my god and may the judges have mercy on their souls, for they will find none with me.”
Imperious from Diablo 3. Sisters of Silence from Warhammer 40K. I have a question though...what deities (including non-evil ones) would a Conquest Paladin follow?
I flavored an Oath of Conquest for one to be set up like Fire Emblem's Alm, he has a conquest against Duma, to free Duma's soul and save lives in the future. My character's conquest is against the bbeg, taking up arms to bring peace to the lands by defeating the evil lich for harvesting and corrupting souls. 3 levels of Paladin and 7 levels of Battle Master. My character hasn't given up on the people he's the people's blade while other strive to be the shield.
My current paladin is dedicated to Jergal, god of the end of everything and has a love/hate relationship with undead. I'm trying to gather a small horde of zombies to carry my burdens whilst destroying the undead that have not been sanctioned by the church. Loving the idea of more evil paladins!
I was thinking about this, and I feel that I've come to the most plausible conclusion. The conquest Paladin seems to be the "I uphold the law at all cost, even if it means breaking it myself" kind of Paladin. So, as long as the Thief is more useful to the Paladin (as any Rogue should be capable of) as an ally, they have nothing to fear. And the moment the usefulness ends, the sneaky-sneak their way outta that show.
I'm currently playing a Paladin that's currently going through a similar crisis of faith in people. He got (slightly) better after a pep talk from the party's atheist Artificer (yes, an atheist in a D&D setting) but there's always the possibility that he forsakes his Oath of Devotion for an Oath of Conquest.
I’m currently setting up a Conquest Paladin with a more chaotic flavour. Their core idea is that all systems are corrupt, and those who abuse this corruption must be punished. They consider themself "the overthrower of tyrants".
I play a Oath of Conquest Paladin. I wouldn't call him dark just, to quote DND Beyond, "I am inflexible in my thinking". P.S. Conquering Presence is amazing
I played a Reborn who had levels in conquest paladin. He makes it his mission to slaughter and conquer every monster he sees until he finds the one that killed him (he's hoping through the slaughter he'll be able to remember what it is) 😅
"You will fall behind me . . . or you will fall before me."
Im just going to yoink this. Thank you!
@@hacker0110 Same. Such a badass quote. Intimidation check incoming if you whip this out during a game.
Oath of Conquest paladin, black armor, wielding a sun blade... "Together, we can bring order to the multiverse."
"All I am surrounded by is fear.
And dead men."
Conquest Pali: I will have my own kingdom.
Berserker Barb: GRIIFIIIIIIIITH!!!
I love this comment
Paladins are defined by the "good" part in their alignment, this one is defined by the "lawfull" part. Sounds absolutely awesome
CROblazer420 *devotion Paladins
There are ways to write every paladin in every alignment
Oath Of Conquest "I AM THE LAW!"-Judge Dredd
My thoughts exactly. Those who push Lawful Evil or Lawful Neutral to the extreme.
I thought Dredd would have been an Oath of Vengeance.
You have been charged with attempted murder of a judge, the sentence.... Is DEATH!
Oath of Vengeance is more Batman or The Punisher, I think.
Vengeance is batman conquest is Dredd, i like that
Stoked. This is a type of paladin I've wanted for awhile. The Paladin of Vengeance is basically just playing the punisher. Which is dope, but this kind of Paladin is going to make a great addition to the game.

I love this subclass. Paladins have always seemed extreme to me for following divine alignment where grey areas aren't understood
"There is black and there is white... I´m here so grey doesn´t exist"
That could be a phrase.
Reading the powers of Oath of Conquest in the UA made me think a little of Darth Vader.
Oath of Conquest

I recently made a conquest paladin that is a veteran of war and lives for the battle
They even imply that Sith are conquest paladins: The biggest threat to them are other conquest paladins.
Why do you think the Conquest paladin Bane in DnD headquarters change the rules to only have 1 high level and 1 low level for every game?
Darth Vader was a Paladin of Conquest
This is immediately where I went.
TheOlJohnson Vader is an oath breaker
@@skankalank2000 he is devoted to his empire and upholds its laws after seeing through the lies of the Jedi

Will soon be doing a Drow Dexadin with Oath of Conquest, and I can't wait
Love subclasses that display a conflict between law and chaos, super stoked!
This. This is the one I've been waiting for.
Using this class for my drow Paladin to Eilistraee in my homebrew.
they sound very Machiavellian. Which sounds liiiit.
I see oath of conquest as more like "whatever I do is right because AM law" and you could play a chaotic aligned character
Loving these insights into the upcoming book!
Oath of Conquest, aKa Oath of Darth Vader
not darth vader, more liek alexander anderson, judge dredd
Yeeessss. I have been using this for one of the villains in my campaign already and the powerset is so cool and thematic. He is a paladin of Bane.
Might use this to help make 3 kingdoms Cao Cao, he wanted to end the chaos of the land but he believed that only he can do that and he believed violence was needed to put the chaos down
A second-half of life, world-weary paladin. I like it.

Basically Javert from Les Mis.
Mm, Javert is more Oath of the Crown if you play up the lawfulness of that oath.
I could imagine a good-aligned oathbreaker, especially if they used to be conquest paladins, but choose to abandon that path.
Oathbreakers are, by definition, evil. They broke the most sacred thing for them and that made them delusional.

Awesome! Great subclass for hobgoblins. I might make a teacher character: multiclass this and wizard and/or lore bard with the sage background.
I've never been more excited about a paladin. To be clear, I'd never been excited about a single damn paladin. Good work! 🐵
A devotion Paladin will jump in front of a strike to protect someone, a vengeance Paladin will smash heads with righteous fury, a conquest Paladin will break an enemies willpower and spirit.

Paladin Dredd, what say you? I am THE LAW.

I feel Alarak from Starcraft 2: LotV is a great example of a Paladin: Oath of Conquest.
Zhio makes me regret homebrewing an entire subclass just to add Alarak to my campaign
The Oath of Conquest strikes me as the primary oath for Paladins of Bane in the Forgotten Realms, as their ideals are the same.
I'm picturing Superman from Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Me too!
And I think main-universe-Superman would belong to the Oath of Devotion?
Explaining the oaths through songs. If you've got any suggestions, feel free to let me know. I'm trying to have each oath come from a different band, but we'll see.
Devotion: Sabaton-Last stand

Alexander Anderson?

Bluecho4 doubt he’d be a cleric- they’re not stabby enough
Awesome.... Now lets talk about the revised ranger.
Playing a bright pink conquest paladin named kik the bold, everyone fears him
I played a oath of conquest paladin as a red dragon born who became an immortal tyrant by scaring the personification of death into submission so while you may kill him temporarily he will raise again and cleave your head from your shoulders
so... Sith Lord. I dig it. I realllly dig it.
Oath of Treachery+Warlock+Assassin= Entirely too enthusiastic psychopath who just loves his friends.
I only picture Arthas from Warcraft
That's very interesting... obviously he later became an Oathbreaker, but I always considered him under the Oath of Vengeance, especially with his sworn revenge on Mal'ganis and whatnot. This is such a compelling character build. The potential is vast and ripe for the taking.... muah ha ha ha
the good version of the oath always makes me think of the angelus from the darkness comics, she's "good" but will kill anyone who stands in her way
I'm not a dark and brooding paladin, I just wanna crusade.
Paladin of Roman Empire:)
preventing someone form moving....sounds like darth vader force choke
Oath of conquest and oath of vengeance sound like they would get along
Sooo, what you're saying is... Mercykillers?
Oath of Conquest Dragonborne wielding his Holy Avenger “Death to those who stand before my god and may the judges have mercy on their souls, for they will find none with me.”
If the world won't GET better, I will MAKE it better. Literally the Injustice universe
I like it! The "Self-Righteous" character that is the perfect Anti-Villain.
Imperious from Diablo 3. Sisters of Silence from Warhammer 40K. I have a question though...what deities (including non-evil ones) would a Conquest Paladin follow?
NO MERCY NO RESPITE
Just think Samara from Mass Effect.
You could in theory play Thanos as an Oath of Conquest Paladin
Thank you so much for this and avoiding the use of the term "antipaladin."
C. Prusse oath breakers already exist
Lawful good does not mean lawful nice. Here is a good explanation as to why lol
I love this subclass, it reeks of the Illrigger.
Good stuff.
With my eyes Closed Im imagining A Description of Warhammer.
Mayor of the small town the group saved: " You freed us!" :D
Oath of Conquest Paladin: "I wouldn´t say "freed", more like....under new management. >;)
I flavored an Oath of Conquest for one to be set up like Fire Emblem's Alm, he has a conquest against Duma, to free Duma's soul and save lives in the future. Yes! The enforcement of absolute rule, this is perfect!
My current paladin is dedicated to Jergal, god of the end of everything and has a love/hate relationship with undead. I'm trying to gather a small horde of zombies to carry my burdens whilst destroying the undead that have not been sanctioned by the church. Loving the idea of more evil paladins!
Imperialistic Paladins! YAY!
And when the new Paladin class turns his eyes on the party's theif, who will you side with?
I was thinking about this, and I feel that I've come to the most plausible conclusion.
The conquest Paladin seems to be the "I uphold the law at all cost, even if it means breaking it myself" kind of Paladin. So, as long as the Thief is more useful to the Paladin (as any Rogue should be capable of) as an ally, they have nothing to fear. Hellknight says hello!
I honestly think of this oath as essentially a ring wraith from LOTR or a Night lord from Warhammer 40k.
Sorry for the question but... wasn´t Command already in the Paladin´s spelllist? (PHB). Why do they give it again with Oath of Conquest?
I imagine these paladins as Sith Lords
A Sith Lawd?
If what you tell me is true, you will have regained my confidence.
Yes! My Knight of the Gilded Eye shall become realized!! :D
so darth vader style paladins .......i dig it
I’m currently setting up a Conquest Paladin with a more chaotic flavour. Their core idea is that all systems are corrupt, and those who abuse this corruption must be punished. They consider themself "the overthrower of tyrants".
Ooh that's good mind if I use that for some npcs?

P.S. Conquering Presence is amazing
just be sure your party's conquest paladin doesn't get any weird, red, egg shaped necklaces.
I was gonna make a half orc paladin of conquest who is LE, but now I am pulled toward creating my boy Dredd
I played a Reborn who had levels in conquest paladin. He makes it his mission to slaughter and conquer every monster he sees until he finds the one that killed him (he's hoping through the slaughter he'll be able to remember what it is) 😅
Sounds like Iron Man and Judge Dredd
So Darth Vader.
I wanna ask how many enemise can the aura of conquest target all who are in 30 feet?
"each creature of your choice that you can see" so no limit apart from the 30 ft one
Scourge Aasimar + Conquest Paladin = Escanor
praise the sun
Ok, so oathbreaker who was oath of conquest is a chaotic good oathbreaker?
Zod from Man of Steel!
