I’m at 77k miles had it for 4 years now. This is gonna be recharge number 3 for me. I had dealer do it first 2 times thinking there had to be a leak since it needed it so often. This time I will do it myself fuck $510.18
I am so glad, after reading the comments, to know that it isn't just me. This is a great tutorial.
I have a 2018 hatchback with the exact problem. I noticed this current summer the air wasn’t blowing cold anymore. This video helped thanks!
Glad it was useful!
My 2018 Honda civic does the same thing. Thanks for the vid! Saved me lots of money!🙌🏽👍🏽
72k on mine and everything was fine till I started working from home and it sat for a few weeks. One can and the tap was $68 but it fixed it right up! Thank you for showing everything lol
Perfect video. Saved me grief and $, gave me confidence to do it myself. That’s a hot week of my life I won’t get back, but the next ones will be super cool. Thank you!
I needed this, I noticed this weekend that my air was cool… but not close to cold
Same at 50k miles. Gonna do this for sure. Runs great just no cold air
this happened to me too. gonna give it a try.
I just added freon on my 2016 civic with 60k miles. Bought the freon and appliance at Auto zone. I watched the you tube and followed the instruction how to recharge the freon. Took less than 10 minutes to complete.
I bought my 2018 off the lot in 2019. It's now 2023 and my Ac is now running out of freon. I'm going to attempt this on my own since you made it look like cake.
Year 2 of watching this video since my AC went out again. Thanks for the video! Probably be back next year
2018 Civic not blowing cold air after 5 years. Thanks for saving me fat stacks of cash with this easy fix.
Every 10th gen owner I know are having this same issue after about 35-40k miles.
Just now having this issue. It's really annoying because no shop by me will do it.
@@adambritton6520 don’t waste your money. Just buy it at your local auto store shop and do it yourself. Trust me
There is a recall that Honda did not send letters out regarding the condenser leaking or failing. Just make sure your comprossor is working and send it in. There is a 10 year warranty on all condensers.
@@andrewramharak183 how do you know? call the dealer at which I bought it?
@Le0 Yes, call any honda dealer and let them know by providing your vin number, and they will verify if your car is in the year range for the replacement. They will say there will be a fee waived once the condence is at fault. They will only charge you if it's not the condenser fault which is a diagnostic fee.
This happened twice on my 2018 civic after not driving it for 2 weeks on both occasions. First in 2019 and in 2023. Once refilled, it works fine.
is it a compressor issue?
Exactly what happened when my AC stopped blowing cool air a month ago, it was fine before sitting for 2 weeks, afterwards absolutely no cooling
@@jayblank8001how was it fixed?
Seen your video, Very good information. Came across a guy that works at Honda. He informed me that the compresser may be having problems. Take it to your local dealership. And they will fix it for free.
I think mine needs one. Went from being super cold air to if feeling like a fan blowing on you. Thanks for the video much needed
Did yours only blow cold air from one side ?
@@osvaldoGarcia.H Following. That’s the same thing mine is doing around 55k miles
You saved me a lot of money. You get a sub!
Omg!! This was so helpful for me to watch!
50,000 miles on my 18 and already need a recharge.
Honda really did a shotty job with the AC components they used on the 16-18 models
any update? did you need a diagnostic or any compressor issues?
@@lionheart93 i did a recharge, have pinholes. New condensor, parts and labor will cost me $800, honda not covering. I am putting it off till next year.
I got a letter about my 2018 civic being one of the ones that have issues with the A/C seal so it leaks. Mine has been blowing hot since last summer and now I’m at 43,000 miles. Going to try a can of refrigerant tonight
@@lukeskywalka358What is the result?
Hey - my 2018 Civic Hatchback a/c also stopped working, dealer wanted $2050 to replace the a/c "Compressor", a/c clutch, and recharge the system - I told him that I'll just watch RUclips vids and fix it myself. I put a can of R1234yf sealant in it, cost me $22 from ebay, and now it blows COLD air! When the dealer sent me a survey, I told them I fixed it for $22 bucks! They just try to take our money a lot. Watch out people!
Glad we can help and hopefully your car stays nice and cold unlike ours!!
There is actually a TSB for the AC condenser on most of those Civics. The issue is, most of the time, it's not just the condenser that is bad. Mine also had a leaking compressor. They wanted some rediculous amount to fix the leaking compressor. I told them replace the condenser and I'll wait for a recall to fix the compressor. Total bs on Honda's part.
Buddy they charged you that much because something along the way in your ac system is leaking and you're going to have to keep recharging lol
Not to be rude but ill rather pay 22 every summer than 3k to fix , these civics are beautiful but they are big trouble.
Leave a review on their website so you can save other people! Imagine you're an old lady and trusted them 😢
Thanks so much. 60k miles right when it gets hot. Gonna save a buck
My 2012 Honda Civic does this every summer. It’s an easy fix thankfully. My car has over 100,00 miles on it. Thank you for this information. M
I have a 2017 Civic Touring and I have had my AC fixed under warranty 3 times. It dies every year at the start of the summer. This year it died again and I am going to try this and see if it works. Fingers crossed. Its been a great car aside form this one issue.
Since I wrote this comment, I have had it looked at. It actually had too much coolant in it. And it has been a fix. But last summer it needed coolant, too much was put into it.
Great video, just what one needs to know to add A/C refrigerant. Nice job! Thanks! Saved myself (and others) a great deal of money
A mechanic charged me $1000 just for it to breakdown the following summer. Thanks to you, I’m not paying another 1000
Update: the hose kit ($20) + refrigerant ($69 at oreilly) saved me about $900. Thank you so much for sharing this instruction
mine charged me $350 dont feel bad lol
@@RaggedyAnnWins ouch! they are wilding
@@kagame6524 is it still running well a year later?
@@sammy6866 nah, every summer i have to recharge it, but it keeps for the whole summer.. just it that last week lol
Mines stopped working early last year ( spring) & found out they Had a recall on mine for the condenser… they replaced for free… was great all year & the beginning of this summer but now it barely blows cold air… fortunately a month ago I received a letter from Honda & the a/c is covered for another 10 years due to a cylinder piston in the compressor that could leak.. & it’s for sure.. but I bought an a/c recharge kit on Amazon with gauge just to finish the year off .. will get it fixed per their warranty next spring!!!! Hope this helps!
2020 19k miles A/C blowing out hot af, unfortunately I live in Miami so this is a must
Mine did the same thing this month. May 2023. A little soon for me based on other vehicles I've had. It only has 29000 miles!
Had same problem with my 2018 civic. Going to buy a refill kit now
Great commentary from camera man
My Honda Civic had the same problem… ended up totaling it though. Great vid!
Oh dang sorry about that one.
😂😂I’m srry but this is funny
SUE THEM. You were suffering from hyperthermia and that caused you to crash 😂
Thank you this helped a lot
!Gracias, Chico Bonito! I did not know about the 1234yf freon. I have a 2018 Odyssey, and I am thinking that it needs freon.
Wish I found this 1 week ago. My ac was blowing hot air on the driver side and mid warm air on the passenger side. First time after having the car for 2 years with 57k miles (2018 Civic LX). I paid $180 for a recharge. Definitely saving this video for next time.
Don’t feel too bad, the first time I paid $1000.. glad this video exists. Saving a lot this summer
i'm glad i looked at the comment section cause yup.. just about 35k and AC blows warm. Going on my second recharge now
Great video. Honda has extended a ten year warrantee on the AC systems for 2018 and newer civics
only on the compressor.
I’m 80k 2017, first time that I know. Don’t know if it’s a leak yet but gave it a shot. Hopefully it does the trick. Thanks for the video
2018 civic si coupe and I have the same issue. About to be my 2nd time refilling.
66,000 miles on my 2019 Civic before first charge. Thanks for video.
I got to 60k and it quit. Thanks for the help!
I need to recharge it every summer it's the leak? Should I buy the Seal to repair it and then recharge it? Thanks!
I tried RedTek12a washer to fit to Low valve of 2018 CRV. The washer didn't fit while it had no problem fitting my Civic. I need help what kind of gauge kit I need to get...
Do we have to pay attention to the “Rec Charge” numbers or “oil type” in the AC system label
It’s the refrigerant that is causing the problem. The propene based refrigerant is breaking down the seals in the system. It is also causing complete failures of the condenser unit. Honda is aware of this on all models dating 2015-2018, and has extended the warranty to replace the o-rings and condenser for 10 years/unlimited mileage. If you are going to add refrigerant, be sure to not use one with any additional additives (dye; leak seal; oil), or Honda will know you have messed with your A/C, and they will void your warranty.
Im working on a 2018 honda civic in the u.s. but the tag says u.k. version. Now i have to buy new valves to diagnose AC leak and charge system properly. I didnt mean to be rude in my last comment, the correct way to charge an ac system with refrigerant is to pull a vacuum on the system. Without that process you will experience a longer time period before cold air comes through the vents, you will also see that your ac will only blow cool air during hotter days like 100 degrees plus. When you pull a vacuum on the system before you add refrigerant, when its 100 degrees out side, you should be getting close to 40 degrees coming out of your vents, thats a clear indication that youve properly charged the system.
Yep mine did it too. Think they extended warranty for it
My 2018 civic AC makes a hissing noise when I turn it on, does that mean it’s running low?
Air blowing but mid. Not as chilly thanks for video!!
Look at Service Bulletin 19-091 - there is an extended warranty for Civics 2016-2021 for the factory Condensor leaking. Warranty is extended for 10 years after date of purchase
I think the issue was in the compressor
I live I Florida I been having the same issue with my Honda civic. I had it for 3 years and each year I have add Freon
Same issue, every year it seems. I just put in one can. Still not cooling, just barely got into the blue zone on the gauge . Going to get another can.
Thanks for the video. What kind of hose is that? Where can I buy it?
Had my condenser replaced in 2023 under the recall. Spring 2024 only hot air was blowing through. Was charged $203, tax included, at dealership to find out that this time its a valve assembly hose that would have cost me another $544. I decided to buy a kit at Canadian Tire for $80.
My girl got one of those cars too. Hate it how the driver is warm and passenger is cold. But will try to recharge it today
Service Bulletin - American Honda is extending the warranty on the A/C condenser to 10 years from the original date of purchase with unlimited miles. This warranty extension only covers vehicles that have a defective A/C condenser from the factory. The A/C condenser was not manufactured to specification. As a result, corrosion may develop in the form of tiny holes in the condenser tube walls that allow the refrigerant to leak out. This does not apply to any vehicle that has a leaking condenser due to foreign object damage. It also does not apply to any vehicle that has ever been declared a total loss or sold for salvage by a financial institution or insurer, or has a branded or similar title under any state’s law
@@jq3753 thank you
Should I drain it first before pumping in the refrigerant?
Do you only need one small tank? or how do you determine its enough r1234yf?
Same here, 2019 Civic Sport Sedan and i live in hot Las Vegas!
Me too in Vegas 2019 sport . What did they say ? My ac Is blowing hot air
@@donnierogers5763 I just get the can from AutoZone and put in. About $75 I think.
2018 Civic with 76K miles. Just had it happen to me! I guess i got lucky lasting even this long.
2018 CRV here. Last summer the AC was not killer cold as usual, this summer it just blows warm air. The CRV has the same jerk0 boost 1.5 and AC system. No recall on CRVs.
Was at the stealership today and they wanted 98bucks to troubleshoot the problem. 49k on this car! My 2005 Sequoia AC is so cold 🥶 it will freeze you to death.
No more Hondas for me, going back to Yota.
I have a 2018 Honda bought it BRAND NEW! At 50,000 miles or so it went out. Mind you I rarely use AC I just roll windows down.
Same at 10,000 miles. AC blows war. Headed to Auto Zone. Dealership wants to replace compressor, says it’s not covered by warranty!
This is my second time filling it up with taht refrigerant and it’s blowing warm air still so I took it to the dealership today and told me it’s the wrong one and that it’s gonna cost me 9k to get everything replaced compressor, condenser and a few pipe lines. Just wondering if anyone else has gone thru this
How do I find out what type of AC to use? I have a 2018 civic LX
You know there’s a recall on the ac units in these cars, 10 year unlimited mile extended warranty for a leak issue. I believe the condenser leaks. If that turns out to be the issue, they’ll fix it for free.
I saw on a Honda service bulletin that there's been a pretty bad back-order on the condensers in the past because of this exact recall. Couldn't tell ya how recent the bulletin was published, hopefully, they're back in decent supply.
Changed condenser twice and whole AC pipe. Nothing works. Now they are asking to change the radiator, which cost almost $ 4k.
I recently called and they said the warranty covers it if that’s the issue but I still have to pay for it to get diagnosed 😅
Yep just went in a couple weeks ago and they want $500 just to diagnose...@@dabros9363
My Honda civic 2017 stop blowing cold air again. I filled it up last summer went cold then winter came obviously you don’t need ac in the cold season. And now summer is around the corner and it’s 80 degrees turn my ac on and walla!! Blowing hot air . Need to fill her up again for 150$ . Honda needs to recall this
2016 honda civic second time needing ac recharge 1st time did it at the dealer I'm not doing that again but feeling intimidated to do it myself and doing it wrong
Donde comprastes los cables para cargar el AC ?
Just a friendly heads up, if you put aftermarket refrigerant in your system, Honda won't touch it (ask me how i know 🙄). Apparently, all the AM stuff is propane-based, unlike what the manufacturer uses, so they all claim it will bugger up their machines.
Follow up to this, Honda refused to touch our 2016 CRV because i topped it up with a recharge kit. They (Honda) claim that using this stuff will "contaminate" (their word) your AC system. When they go to flush it, the AM refrigerant will screw up the machine they use to suck it out. They couldn't even point us in the right direction on where to get the system flushed, super frustrating. Fast forward to today where we had a mechanic do all of it without any issues. They also changed the oil and cabin filters. All of this for a fraction of what Honda said they would charge for a basic AC recharge.
@@mattdborys a bogus explanation. Recharge your freon sold at Auto zone. Next time don't buy Honda. Their products sucks.
10th gen 2021 with 10k miles and around 300 hours on the car the AC has been out for a few months just getting around to fixing it this weekend I’m going to call the dealer tomorrow do to the fact it’s literally 20 months old from when I bought it with less than 1 mile on the car
Yep 2017 Honda civic, had to refill 3 years in a row each summer
I was just talking to a Honda Supervisor and he was telling me the new Freon eats up the aluminum from the side and if it not under warranty it's like 3k to replace everything. Honda is think about changing back to the 134 because it's so corrosive
My 2017 civic busted 2 condensers in less than 6 months. And to top it off compressor blew seals after 5 years from release date.
Can you give a link for the can? Thabks
My 2018 honda Civic touring sometimes the ac works sometimes it doesn’t,does that means is going low now anybody ???it just started to happen 2 days ago @ 188k miles
Mine doesn’t blow any air but sometimes when I start the engine it works perfectly fine (until I cut it off again) I think it’s electrical
Just bought a 2018 from the dealer with this same issue. Bought an extended warranty and they wanted to charge me 120 just to diagnose only 70,000km on the car
2017 Civic same issue. I've already had the condenser and compressor replaced once and I'm low on refrigerant again. How long did this refill last before you needed to do it again?
Did they top it up all the way when you got it? I didn't think it needed regassed unless there was a leak.
Que presión el libras debe de tener ?
Isn’t there a recall on these for leaking condenser
Can you please let me know where did you buy the tool to recharge the air. Thank you
Yes, I'll put the amazon link in the description where I bought it!
Aww i was waiting for you to show on the meter arrow thingie where to stop
Everybody watching there was a recall on a part I forgot which one but I’d check it out
I've been lucky had my 2018 since the end of 2017 haven't had to recharge and already past 100k miles
Yup they should recall it, the dealer wanted 2500 to fix the leak and recharge the whole system
Same issue at 43k for a 18 civic ex-t
I add a bottle every ~18 months about. Edit: just added another one..... cold as ice, again. Thanks!
What year is this
Where I can buy
Honda issued a bulletin and the AC defect is known to Honda and they offered an warranty extension
Same second charge. 85k miles
I'm having same problem with 2017 Honda civic
How does a new car need an AC recharge?? My 2003 eclipse still blows cold! 🥶😮💨
there was a lawsuit recently about the new honda's AC system.. they acknowledged it was a problem but didn't bother recalling anything I believe :( I'm planning on selling mine because of this reason..
How often does everybody need to do this? I feel like I'm doing this every summer is that normal?
I'm recharging my AC every 8 months 2017 civic
can you do this if the system is completely empty or only if it’s low?
both! you might need two cans depending if its completely empty or for a larger vehicle!
Yo was this easy to get connected to the low side ? Mine doesn’t seem have the correct threading even tho there’s plenty of Amazon reviews saying it worked on their civics so I figured it would work. Mine does seem to secure like yours did so trying to figure out how y’all got it to stick
I had to purchase a new AC gauge hose for the newer ac systems and they reverse threaded on so maybe your using the older one? Subscribe if this helps!!!
@@AmericanVsImports got a link? Same thing for me
Make sure the hose is meant for R-1234yf, I had same issue then realized I had the wrong hose.
How do you know how much 1234yf you need to add? Overfilling can be dangerous.
The pressure guage tells you.

Apparently there’s a recall on the ac compressor
I've had three condensers in my 2016 so far. They keep failing. I also live in AZ where it's 117 out today so I kind of give it an excuse
sorry to hear!
