Still Life Drawing Critique

In the Life Drawing Academy Correspondence Course (lifedrawing.ac..., we receive drawings for critique from students who take our unlimited personal tutoring. One of our students, Liezl, is now working on the topic of rendering tonal values. Here’s the still life artwork she sent us recently. Here’s what Liezl says:
“I think the one subject in drawing I struggle most with, is tonal rendering. I read the rules, and try to apply them, but it still seems to come out wrong. lifedrawing.ac...
When rendering, do I need to look for all the accents and umbras first, and then draw shadows and cast shadows? Do I need to draw one object at a time, and complete it, or render all dark areas of all objects before moving to lighter parts? I know my drawings don't look like your examples, but I don't know how to improve. Your feedback will be highly appreciated.”
