    Interesting design mixture of Finnic, Sámi, Scandinavian, Central European, and fantasy elements. Overall, very good looking and bushcraft ready puukko-style knife, with a nice balance between shape and decoration.

    A beautiful piece of work. That sheath with the brass band very nice but wouldn’t you be concerned using that material and have it break or crack as it looked to be quite thick with all the bending to shape it.

    • @StevesWorkshopSwiss
      @StevesWorkshopSwiss  3 года назад +2

      I don't think it will crack because it's rather flexible. You can find these type of brace on some marttiini knives.

    I have been making knives since the 60's and that is really great work! My biggest disk sander is 8" (203mm) how do you like the large sander? would it be worth it for me to get one over the one I have now? I don't mind paying for good tools. Again that is some really nice work. I am experimenting making a sheath with wood and rawhide I hope it turns out as good as I have in mind.

    • @StevesWorkshopSwiss
      @StevesWorkshopSwiss  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the comment !
      It's a good question. Well, I hestiated a while on choosing a new grinding machine.
      You have these combined machines with small sanding disc and the belt but having already one sanding machine with the belts there was no point of getting a new one for me. Also, in my opinion, it's really an advantage to have a bigger sanding disc machine. Mine is 305mm which is roughly 12" and I feel like the disc last longer and even if the paper gets a bit blunt with times you can still remove a fair amount of matter (wood). Also I like to use the more central part of the disk to sand metal parts and the outside of the disc for the wood. On the other hand the belt sanding machine is really helpful for the round concave shapes so it's best to have both of them.
      I hope it was helpful ;-)
      Good luck with your work

  • @darksi226
    @darksi226 3 года назад +1

    I’ve never thought to use wood nearest to the blade(handle). I’ve always assumed it had to be metal of some kind. You never have any issues with damage when using the knife? Very interesting.

    • @StevesWorkshopSwiss
      @StevesWorkshopSwiss  3 года назад +2

      Yeah you can use wood without problems ;-).
      You often see some old Finnish knives (more than a hundred years old) with a full birch handle and they hold on pretty good.
      But I assume not every wood is suitable, in this case oak is perfect because it very durable.
