Thank you so much for your comment. I really don’t feel comfortable leaving the oil in the converter. You do this oils change every 60k so why not go a little further and changing what is in the converter. German engineering is very complex but it’s also the best when it comes to cars. So yeah they don’t really make it easy for anything. I’m glad my video was helpful.
Thank you so much for making this this video. Very detailed and great video coverage! Much appreciated, as making a video makes the whole job much longer..thank you! 😊
Great video Jose. Thanks for the time put into providing such a thorough explanation. Concerning the torque converter, if the fluid is draining too slowly, starting and immediately stopping the engine will cause the fluid to come gushing out. You will have to line up the opening again to replace the drain plug.
Thank you so much for your comment. It would have been easier if they designed it with that in mind. But I wouldn’t be the one to change their engineering. Maybe a little hole won’t change much, but I rather not.
I can only speak to the Nissan Titan, but I believe they only got the 9-Speed Jatco from 2020-2024. Prior to that, there was a 7-speed Aisin transmission, not sure if the maintenance procedure would be the same.
Thank you so much for your comment. Jatco is actually licensed for production of the Mercedes 9G-Tronic transmission for some of their Nissan and Infinity vehicles
Excellent detailed video. I've recently had 9g oil and pan changed at Automatic transmission rebuild specialist, refill was 5 and half litres they didn't drain torque converter. Should I be concerned?
Thank you for your comment. I would say your oil is half way clean. It’s not terrible but it would’ve been good to do the entire thing. I hope the old oil wasn’t too bad.
Great video. Very thorough. Any concerns with the torque converter running dry for a few seconds (or minutes?) until the 5 "extra" quarts from the pan cycles through?
Great video! Just to confirm, you don’t need to cycle through the gears after filling and waiting for temp to reach 39 degrees, correct? Also, on a 9g tronic MCT (AMG only) w/o torque converter, does the 9 liters drain from just the pan or somewhere else after draining from the pan? Does anyone know?
Thank you Artur for your comment. There is no need for cycle. I took 9 liters out and I put a little over 9 liters back, so I am very comfortable with it. I do not think it makes a difference to cycle through gears. I don’t like the idea of running it dry even though it would only be for a fraction of time and not completely dry. Another reason I am comfortable with it is that I change the oil before time and not after. With the MTC. I have not done one my self, but the way I have seen it done is that (and it might sound silly) you drain the oil from the pan and from the cooler hoses two times. On the first change the oil that is left will mix with the new oil and when you do the second oil change you will have much better, cleaner oil in the trans. Now, with this procedure, you run the engine after you have changed the first time (wet trans), go through gears so you can get all of the oil moving throughout the entire system, get up to operating temperature, let it run for a few minutes and then flush again. If you do it your self it doesn’t cost you much. And since you do not do this service all the time is not too much of a pain. The car is already up and ready. I would also have the car warmed up before I do even the first change. Bring the car up to operating temperature, and let it cool off for a few minutes. Wear gloves so you don’t burn yourself.
I thought the rest of the oil was in the transmission oil cooler that has a feed via the two pipes that come from the transmission housing, to drain this you have to run the engine to operate the oil pump with the return pipe disconnected and add and drain a litre at a time? ( 4.5 litre in the transmission and 4.5 litre in the oil radiator ) You say you got 4.5 litre out of the torque convertor, was this also coming from the transmission oil cooler?
Hi. Thank you so much for watching my video and commenting on it. The amount of oil that is held in the radiator is very little. It doesn’t make a difference. There are people that don’t even drain the torque converter. I got 9 liters out and I put just a little more then 9 in. And that is what the 9g-Tronic trans (with all its components) on this car calls for. As you mentioned, some of the oil from the lines may already come out from the torque converter, but what is being held is not a significant amount to make a difference on the operation of the transmission or the lifespan of it. So I am not really worried about it.

I don't have a scanner to measure the temperature to measure the fluid level, does anyone know the way to check the temperature without having the scanner on 9 speed automatic transmission? On my old mercedes 2014 ML350 the ATF oil pan is metal and it doesn't require to change the whole pan but only the gasket when it comes to ATF service...I usually check the temp through my laser temperature tool by pointing it to the ATF pan while the engine is running. It reads the temp without having to use the scanner, but since the 9 speed comes with plastic ATF pan my laser tool probably won't read the temp correctly through the plastic pan, though I have not tried it yet, if anyone have an idea about this please help answer my question. Once I got under the car, shock and awe struck me and I panicked because I didn't have the proper tools to refill the pan and had to Amazon 1 day order them for $20. So, I spent an extra $90 for no reason. But, I got it done. And, I found the fluid for $8.39 a liter and ordered 10. So, I have 5 for next time and will just order a new pan at 100k miles.
Hi Jose. I have a 2017 C300 convertible equipped with 9g tronic transmission. They told me that I just need 5 liters of transmission fluid since the pan will drop 4 liters and the torque converter drops only 500 ml, is that correct?
That is an OBD2 scanner. You can get a $20 scanner from Amazon or you can get a better one that is bidirectional from specialized companies. I used both on the video. The bigger one is from Icarsoft. Thank you so much for your comment. As far as I know you need about 10 liters for a trans service. Even the 7g tronic needs about 10 liters
Great content! What is the tools you use to read of oil temp to 39 degrees?
That is an OBD2 scanner. You can get a $20 scanner from Amazon or you can get a better one that is bidirectional from specialized companies. I used both on the video. The bigger one is from Icarsoft. The one from Amazon will give you codes and live data is great. The bidirectional will allow you to send commands to the car as well.
Alright. Thanks 🙏
@@lownology you are welcome
@@josecitomarin Hi again Jose! i´m now about to change oil on my 9g trans. If i took 6 lites out and I put a little over 6 liters back. I still have to do 39 degrees check?
@@lownologyyou should definitely look for the temperature measurement. Make sure you do the torque converter. Get the scanner you’ll need it for other things as well. Anybody who owns a car should own a scanner
At how many miles does this need to be done ? Thanks 2020 W222
Thank you so much for your comment. You have to do it every 60,000 miles
@@josecitomarin thanks

What kind of torque wrench you using?

Great video Jose. Did you change the filters? I didn't see that step.
I have the 2015 S550 with the 7G transmission. Would the procedure be similar to yours?
It’s very similar. I got the part at FCP Euro. They will help you find the correct parts for your car. Give them a call
@@josecitomarin will do, did you change the transmission filters?
The filters and seal come in the tray already installed. Some cars come with the filter and seal already installed and asome separate
Thanks Jose for the detailed explanation! I appreciate it.

Hey man, the main cap on my car is leaking oil, I have oil changed 8 months ago. Can I just replace with the new cap? Thanks
Hi. Thank you so much for your comment. It doesn’t hurt to replace it. They are very inexpensive. Specially if you know that it’s leaking from the cap for sure. But you are going to have to refill your transmission again.
@@josecitomarin Hey man thanks for the reply. Why do you suggest refill again?
@@EdasTattoo well. The cap is on the bottom of the tray. You are talking about the transmission right? Or are you talking about the engine? If it’s the engine no need to refill. And if it is the transmission, you don’t want to use the same oil after you take it out to change the cap. Who knows how much oil the car leaked by now.
@@josecitomarin Thanks for your reply. Im talking about transmission yes, it didn't leaked much, its just wet a bit. Once i remove the old cap, it will not start to drain as it has second cap inside for filling and draining isn't it?
@@EdasTattoo yes . You are correct. Remove the cap. The fill tube is inside
Now I see why this service is so expensive 😩
Thank you so much for your comment. Yes they do charge a lot, it needs some work, a lot of oil, new pan, new filter, etc
Another reason mechanics hate engineers.
It takes a little longer than a regular car. But is not that bad.
Maybe, but it’s unnecessarily complicated and you have to buy the stupid tool.
@@bobmcgehee1749 it’s still a lot cheaper then having it done by somebody else. And then you have to make sure they do it right, which is the most important part.
