    “This is a song about the ugliness of desire and the beauty of destruction. The urge to burn and destroy is also an urge to create and evolve. Right or wrong, there’s pleasure in smashing some things into pieces.”
    Formed in 1995 in the small Swedish city of Mariestad by key players from Sweden's legendary hardcore scene, WOLFBRIGADE -- previously known as Wolfpack until 1999 -- stands among Scandinavia's most respected, influential, and reliable purveyors of real-world brute-force tumult.
    On their crushing "Life Knife Death", thirty years of skill are honed to a fine edge and dispatched with greater style and intensity than ever before. Most immediately, there's the sheer velocity and barely controlled rage pumping through dynamic d-beaten blood-shakers like “Ways To Die” and “Your God Is A Corpse,” the furious attack assisted to heart-fluttering greatness by a newly loosened sense of raucous spontaneity. "We didn’t really rehearse any of the songs on this album," the band reveals. "We tend to overwork and overanalyze everything that we do, and sometimes we get lost in that process. This time we wanted to go rough, to capture the raw essence of the song when it’s just out of the womb. All the blood and gore."

      i dont know about this dissection talk though what the hell. hell maybe you meant DESTRUCTION... that whole bit around 1:20 sounds more influenced by some 80s teutonic thrash than the song having any semblance of anything dissection ever did.

      @@ian.swift.31614 No, I did not mean Destruction and I also hear zero teutonic Thrash in this band. Wolfbrigade integrate parts into their music that are reminiscent of Dissection's melodies. Just listen to From Beyond or Hurrican Veins for example. Maybe I should have stated that I was not talking about this song in particular, but rather about the band as a whole.

    • @iachtulhu1420

      Regarding Dissection, Wolfbrigade's song From Beyond features a homage riff/section from Where Dead Angels Lie. It's almost identical, I wouldn't say it's plagiarized, it's literal homage. As for their style, yes, Motorhead and Discharge influence will be always prominent in any d-beat driven hardcore punk band by default. It's just more pronounced and obvious with some bands. But their mainstay is Swedish hardcore, what came before them - that is Anti Cimex and similar käng punk/rä punk bands. Early Swedish extreme metal is also an influence on bands like Driller Killer, Martyrdod or Wolfpack/Wolfbrigade. You can hear subtle melodic death/black metal leads in their music. But the core and starting point is much more punk then metal based.

      Same scene, similar bands, probably even friends. Started around the same time, more or less. Swedish crust punk scene has things to offer :) I like Swedish version of hardcore the most. It's gritty, fast, abrasive and aggressive, bread-and-potato approach. They don't waste time on some fashionable groove or dance parts, which is fine with me, being a primarily grindcore and hardcore fan.
      Speaking of Driller Killer, I adore them both, but Driller Killer is my number one from this scene, probably. :)

    • @cenotaphobscure
      @cenotaphobscure Месяц назад +8

      This isn't grindcore or powerviolence either, it's straight up D-beat/crust punk mixed with a liberal dose of Swedish death metal. Wolfbrigade are one of the most prominent members of the Swedish kängpunk scene that started in the late 1980s-early 1990s along with bands like Driller Killer, Totalitar, Skitsystem, Disfear etc.

      All crust punk/stenchcore bands draw from Venom and Hellhammer/Celtic Frost by just being a part of genre's history and evolution. But on the whole, this is pretty standard Swedish crusty hardcore punk. Take a look at Driller Killer, Disfear, Skitsystem, Anti-Cimex etc.. common elements, sound, production, ethos.. Celtic Frost, at least early stuff is very punky. Not surprising, because in early days of Hellhammer they were a part of local punk scene and took many punk influences into their evolving sound.
