Soviet Russia could've actually went full ballistic after German front.
But Finland decided to sign a peace/neutral treaty with Soviet union to avoid decimation after WW2 and during cold wars.
Imagine being a German and sad about losing wars.
And then there is, Finland.
Actually Soviet Union won this war, It was game between Europe countries and soviet union about help when Germany turns agressive. Stalin estimated that if he does full invasion of Finland, while Europe countries wouldn't fight on side of Finland, Germany can start fight against soviet union without any interference of Europe countries using casus belli of Finland liberation. So while actual reasoning of war from soviet side was done (move Finland borders from Leningrad), more practical was to put end to this war ASAP.
And, what about casualties, well, Mannerheim line was nothing to joke about and bruteforcing it was a really-really bad idea.

Обяснить почему советский Союз понёс такие потери в этой войне довольно просто. Во время революции сменили всё, строй политический режим сместили старых начальников и поставили новых. И армия не стала исключением. В итоге армия оказалась наполнена молодыми офицерами и солдатами которые попросту не знали как воевать, на руках у них была лишь теория и никакой практики. А фины выступили против СССР в качестве партизан, засады набеги и тому подобное. С подобным движением не удалось справиться даже германии, но в СССР, а советская армия без опыта справиться с подобным не могла это уж точно. Но, говорить что СССР недооценила Финляндию попросту глупо, я бы даже сказал идиотски. Потому что потери в войне доказывают что СССР воспринял своего противника максимально серьёзно и направил туда много сил что бы справиться с финами.

My family's members were Russians who were volunteers in the Wehrmacht in the Baltics. The other side of my family are Swedish who also fought in a SS divisions of volunteers made up of Swedes, Norwegians and Estonians, trained by German officers. Mostly artillery support for Finnish aircraft and anti-air artillery against Soviet planes and those missile trucks
The Eastern front was the bloodiest part of WW2 and there were people from various European nations volunteering to fight against bolsheviks
