In this drum lesson, I will be showing you how to add a little spice to your Gadson grooves. This little groove embellishment works great in those verse turnarounds where instead of going to the chorus you just repeat the phrase. I hope you enjoy the drum lesson and I look forward to seeing what you guys & gals do with it :)

I've been learning drums for 20 years and this is the ONLY RUclips channel where I regularly find really cool licks and grooves.
    Your teaching style rocks.
    Keep them coming!

For every lesson he releases on RUclips I always watch them and think, oh I should be able to play that no problem. Then I sit down at the kit and 20 minutes of cursing ensues. Thanks for the frustration! (Mean that in a good way)

This is killer! Thanks again, Mike. You have given me so much to practice over the years, and your goodhearted nature is always inspiring as a fellow teacher. Side note, the Gadd flutter lick is also based off of interrupted doubles. Once I get this down I gotta see about messing with both ideas to create something new. Thanks again.

I started drumming in 4th grade with the rudiments and a cheap drum pad in 4th grade. In middle school I joined jazz band, but only to bang on a kit so I could play Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana songs with my buddies. We played in an old horse stall across from the chicken coop in a barn in Western Massachusetts. It was perfect, except I didn't have any proper lessons. Now, over 20 years later I'm learning new technics from your lessons and others on youtube. This was the first video that brought me back to the kit and made me take practicing seriously for the first time in my life. I never thought that I would enjoy drumming again like I am at 36. I'm teaching my seven year old girl the rudiments and the basics. It's brought us together like nothing else. Thank you Mike!

At first I thought: advanced my ass, no metric modulations nor polyrhythmic stuff. Then I tried learning this sequence. Now I know why it's advanced! The whole thing together is quite the figurative "tongue btwister". It's complicated to memorize and play fluently. Never dare I pre judge advanced drum lesson claims. This is indeed advanced and I now realised my over confidence was my down fall. Working on this now and delighted to learn something new for me. Thanks

      Ha, touche. Right. .
So I guess I'll try using it to transcribe a few songs I'm trying to learn which have some challenging rock drumming (odd times, some polyrhythms, etc)... and that'll help me come up with specific questions. It looks pretty awesome at first glance though. I'm still learning theory, so I think this'll help!
