    MCs seem to be the most flexible and versatile in terms of form factor. Astera and DMG both have more kick and their engines are wonderful, but they're not as easy to stick two or three in your pocket in case DP asks for a "quick dab of light over there".
    Great tools all around. Thank you for the overview!

      That’s interesting as I’m the DoP asking for a dab of light. I’ve been looking at getting a set of “ brick “ lights and even tho Im staff for a big broadcaster in the UK the chance of them paying for it is nearly 0% so mostly likely get them myself and let the gaffer place them

      Yes but as a gaffer, the Sidus link is just a pain to work with :(

    The best accessory for the dash is the dot accessory that makes it much larger in size. It’s the accessory that makes everyone including me buy the unit. It’s so good.

    Thanks for the amazing review Luke! I am waiting to test the MC pro. It's going to be a killer

    I just subscribed to your channel. It is very informative and has a tone of helpful information.
    One factor I’m missing about your reviews on light feature comparisons is the lack of a non-spectrum power distribution test of the light sources. This is especially concerning LED, and RGBW technology, which is the worst in offering continued spectrum power distribution. As a gaffer or cinematographer, having practical examples (using light gel or camera filters) on how to address the deficiency of these types of technology on set would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi William, If you have not already found Andrew Lock’s RUclips channel, Gaffer & Gear, I would highly recommend it. He will walk you through the spectral power distribution of each light he reviews. I’m not smart enough to elucidate those aspects of our craft😬

    It’s a great video, even better as I’m looking to get some “ brick “ lights myself. Tho I’m based in Cardiff, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    Hi Luke, hope your doing fine. Great videa as usual. Have you checked out the "Dot" for the "Dash"? Its a silicone half sphere which you can strap onto the Dash. The perfect eye light, IMHO. The new Pro MC will be my next purchase, I never really liked the Sidus App, to fiddly for me. I went the Gaffers Control route and am loving it. My BB has the Blackout, so if we need that for effect building and another Universe we got that option. Thanks again for your work on all this stuff.

    I would live to see a lighting comparison between - hydrapanel - helios - Aputure MT-pro tube in a real word setup like you did with titan tubes

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  2 года назад

      These units can certainly all be used together, but they are somewhat different. The similarities are that they can be controlled via CRMX😉 the Helios is a tube, while the Aputure MT-Pro is a half tube, and the HydraPanel and Helios share a similar interface. After that they are just different tools that work great😀 I’m sure they will end up in sets together all over the world and no doubt on MTG🤪

      @@meetthegaffer more referring to having a comparison in a realistic filming way between the Helios and the hydra panel.... pixelmapping which is a shame it's pretty flexible though I wish they had made the pixel sideways on the hydra panel

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  2 года назад

      Gotcha! Yeah, we always find the things the product doesn’t do🤣 I don’t get a lot of opportunity to pixel map units, so not a lot of help there. But I do see a lot folks on Insta who make use of it. Maybe hit them up?

      @@meetthegaffer Just shot a 5 part series on a Boeing 747 . The dashes were essential as we could hide them everywhere whilst still under dmx control. We used mcs as a quick fix and we could hide them where no other light could go.
