    Your reviews are always worth waiting for!
    I have started to ignore the youtube influencers who have their reviews uploaded 5 minutes after official product release.
    Your reviews actually point out useful information and positives and negatives.

    Damn you Andrew, I had managed to resist buying the 8-light kit a few weeks ago (since I already have the 4 light mc kit, and the dmg dash is too rich for my blood).
    But I have since attended an "Intro to DMX" Workshop, and after this review, the temptation is growing again. :) :)
    Great review.
    On a totally different scale, I really can't wait til you do a review on their monster new Electro Storm fixtures. Any word on when you might be reviewing those? I need some time to line up a buyer for my kidney :)

    Thanks for the fantastic review as always! Bit unfortunate that the batteries are not quickly user replaceable on set again. There isn't just the issue of sustainability if these just last 2-3 years, there is also the sheer convenience of not having to precisely re-position them after charging, or, for Sidus users, possibly even re-programming a complex chase every time a battery goes flat on a light. We would also only have to carry additional batteries instead of extra fixtures. We once lost about a good hour each day on a project where we always had to exactly reposition a myriad of those battery powered Astera spots after charging them in their cases over night …

      I feel your pain my friend.
      The best work around I've found to date has been ordering a set of fairly inexpensive portable USB batteries off Amazon and plugging them into the lights as they run.
      Although, to be honest, I'm probably drastically reducing the overall lifespan of both products by doing this🤷‍♂️

      I hate phone apps for that reason. With DMX I just have to match the address for a swap. I would have hoped they would have come up with a simple swap solution in the app by now.

    • @filmhausbabelsberg
      @filmhausbabelsberg 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@gaffergear Yeah, but that still leaves the time for re-rigging and angling the replacement fixture vs. just swapping a battery. It also doesn't feel right that we go to great lengths to reduce the ecological footprint of our productions in every way we can (huge discussion, at least here in Europe), only to then buy light fixtures chock full of rare earth minerals with a planned obsolecense of 2-3 years.

      @@filmhausbabelsberg cant you just run power to the lights to charge them overnight then spent 10-20 mins unplugging and cleaning cables, rather than an hour+ replacing all your lights?

    When using the MC pro as a crmx receiver, does the MC also change colors and such or does it just act as a box now? Ideally I want it to not light up when changing the fixture it’s attached to. Also would save it’s battery so it runs super long as a stand alone crmx receiver

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  9 месяцев назад

      You need to set it to an unused DMX address otherwise it will act like a light

    What would you preference be between this kit vs. DMG dash vs. Astera Hydra Panel without regarding budget?

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  Месяц назад

      Here is my answer......
      I love the DASH. My preference if I could only buy one.
      The Hydra I use less often, but when I need the firepower I've got it and with its 6 zones it does an absolutely awesome and believable fire effects. (With a bit of playing around in the settings)
      But the MC Pros I have lots of because they are smaller and cheap.
      My kit.....
      16 MC Pros (considering another 8)
      4 DMG Dash
      4 Hydra Panels.

  • @McNuevo

    Is it as simple as plugging the mc pro into a light? or are there any settings you need to adjust on the mc pro, or on your light you're wanting to control wirelessly?

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  10 месяцев назад

      It has to be linked to the transmitter the same as any other CRMX receiver would be. If you are not familiar with doing this, the first time going into the menu could seem complicated, but once set up, assuming no one else changes the settings, it will automatically lock in when it receives your signal from your transmitter
      With the lights it depends on the light, most will automatically detect the DMX data stream and switch over to DMX operation.

    • @McNuevo
      @McNuevo 10 месяцев назад

      I tried it with a 300x and couldn’t get it to work. When I plug in a ratpac receiver the light automatically pick it up, but when I plug an mc pro in, nothing…the mc pro is connected to my system and receiving signal. Is this just a bug from the 300x?
