If you had told me as an 8-year-old kid leaving the Philippines in 1999 to start a new life in America that Owner Type Jeeps will go hard when I'm older, I would have been like, "Nuh-uh! They're slow and they blow smoke everywhere!" (I mostly remember them being diesels)
Here I am now, 33 years old and tumbling down a very specific automotive rabbit hole just managing to understand what Tagalog I still remember (but am in no way able to speak). Owner Type Jeeps now go hard, especially these 'Tamiya' style builds and I'm honestly jealous at the JDM engine options you guys have access to. I would love to build something like this in the US but I kind of wonder if just importing a rolling shell from a genuine OTJ builder and then sourcing my own engine and running gear stateside would be cheaper in the long run for what I've got in mind.

Has anyone built one with a Rover v8?
NONE. We dont have any british engines here. We got only surplus JDM engines sold here.

@@JDOFunofficial I bet there are quite a few Mercedes and BMWs going around the country, so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before someone sticks their mills in an OTJ. Especially the V8 and the M series straight six, as I think they could be the next big thing in hot rodding.
@@chrishenniker5944 Yes and they sold (both Mercedes Benz under CATS Motors and BMW under Autohaus) locally. And for JDM, all Isuzu surplus from Japan are shipped to Subic (Zambales or Palawan?); others are to shipped to local Rebuilt centers (Sobida Motors, G Tecnica, Sebastian Motors, etc.) including all JDM engines shipped inside Manila.
