- The one thing that Victorinox multi tools have always lacked, was the ability to access their knife blades one-handed. The new MXBS finally solves that problem. My apologies for mixing up XMBS for MXBS.

Ben, honestly is the victorinox swisstool line up a better option than the Leatherman multi tools? I'm seriously at a stopping point because I really like the Leatherman wave plus, Super tool 200, or 300, and the surge is a super duty king. I'm serious 4:31 ly kinda at a loss!
You simply have the best videos and the best subscribers! One of the few places where the comments are civil and on point! Long boring story: I was gifted the original swisstool in 2003. Back then it had a bit sleeker, pointier pliers, and the serrated blade had a drop point profile, like the regular knifeblade. Both was for the better IMO. Used it every day at work, and home. In around 2015 allmost every tool was quite worn, so i sent it in for service. They changed everything exept the "frame" free of charge! In the meantime i needed something for work, so i got a standard wave. Now, the general quality of Vic was miles better than LM. But to my surprize it won me over with the one hand opening, scissors and the changeable bits. Carried more compact as well (though the phillips on the Vic is much better in grip/fit/reach.) I now carry the wave at work, and a charge+ with the 154cm blade private. Have not tried the "X," but it seems to me that the one hand opener tab is something that can get in the way while using or sharpening it. Anyways; i love both brands, and often just carry a Spartan these days. Need to rest my fingers now!Sorry about my poor english, im just a uneducated norwegian! Have a nice weekend and keep the videos comming!
Such a useful comment to read. Thanks!
Absolutely no reason to apologize for your English, it is very easy to understand. Thank you for watching my channel, I really appreciate it. I'm am especially grateful for your compliments to both myself and my subscribers, they really are a great group of people. I know exactly what you mean when comparing the Spirit to the Wave. That ease of use plays a big role on deciding which multi tool works for each individual. That is a big, frankly the only reason I can think of, that some people like the Leatherman FREE series. Thank you again, and be well my friend.
I read your comment. Instructive- Tusan takk
I like how you review tools from the pov of someone who works in the field and actually uses these tools. Most other tools reviewers are just edc collectors.
Man, you will change the multitool world with this video! Amazing discovery!
Yes!
Hope so! I hope this means a new era of Victorinox innovation in their multi tool line.
@@txtoolcrib I hope so. Great work!
With 2 small 5mm cuts on the sides of the main housing of the large case, the spirit one handed fits perfectly.
I have the large leather case that houses the ratchet and the bit kit etc ..
With this small modification it can accommodate the spirit xmbs one hand perfectly.
The cuts must be made to the right and left of the main housing, at the top.
They have to be done in the back, and the multitool is inserted with the one-handed opening flaps facing back.
Then the cut must be lightly cauterized with a small flame to prevent fraying of the nylon.
Ben,
I would like to congratulate you for having an extremely professional review skills
The way you describe, demonstrate, and constructively criticize things is a joy to watch
Many thanks for every single second of your time
Keep it up :)
Thank you sir, I appreciate that very much. Thank you for taking time out of your day to watch my videos.
One step closer to perfection except a missing pocket clip. Great review Ben!
And the tweezers and tooth pick. This model has been adapted by the ADF (Australian Defense Forces)
This is the first review I have watched of yours, and I got a Telya it was one of the best I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much for being so descriptive and thinking ahead on your review, very very very good and very very very entertaining. Thank you so much
I appreciate that very much sir, thank you. I hope you get a chance to check out some of my other reviews as well.
Hello Ben , congratulations on getting this new tool , i hope that you are enjoying using it.
Thank you my friend.
@@txtoolcrib You're Welcome :)
They totally listened to your suggestions! The MXBSses look awesome
Just ordered one...i love my Spirit X, and this with the OHO blades will be even better! I hope that one day Victorinox will add this option to the bigger Swisstool too...
Me too .🤞😲
Yes!!!! I'm glad you did this!
I want to extend my deepest gratitude for making me aware of this one, thank you sir.
@@txtoolcrib you're most welcome! 😁😁
One handed blade would prompt me to purchase. It’s a game changer for me.
As you rightly mentioned apart from the scissors based multitool, victorinox should consider making again older multitools such as the mechanic and many other forgotten ones. People ask them like crazy but i don't know how much victorinox listens to the crowd... P.S as always lovely video
I love my Spirit x but one handed opening is no good for me as it’s bad enough having a locking blade living in the uk. Great review as always Ben. 👍
The thought of a one hand opening spirit X is very exciting! I however am rather lukewarm about the opening 'tab' on the blade. It seems like an inelegant solution to an otherwise elegant multitool.
Yeah, it's functional, but I think making a taller blade with an opening hole would have been a more elegant solution.
It's a design for the Australian army, so I suppose they had gloves etc in mind.
first good news of 2020!
Add a pocket clip, & a couple inches of a rule to the X & I'm in heaven. Thanks, Ben
I got one of these last week from Singapore as well. Had been considering a Spirit X for a while, but always wanted both a serrated and straight edge blade. So this is perfect for me.
How are you liking it so far?
swiss tool with 1 hand blades switched positions and scissors. still has wood saw and metal file ands 2 big slots and the other side is a clip point blade with 1/4 bit driver or just 1/4 bit driver not sure. both bug blades have points. extra layer is so worth it
A great step toward modernizing this line of well made but ancient design multitools. Now all we need is to make all 4 outside tools 1 handed, add replaceable cutters, replaceable saw/file, maybe premium blade steel, integral bit driver, and a pocket clip option, and they'll be truly comparable to Leatherman.
These are classy 🤩
Leatherman
NOT
well, buy LEATHERMAN and don't
This tool layout is amazing! Wish they changed the scissor design, but this is perfect!
Nice being able to see the difference. For me, can't do without the wood or metal saw / file. Staying with the older version.
Great video Ben, thanks for the preview, I really dig this one
My pleasure!
Yes the one handed knives opening is nice on Leatherman but Spirit X got all the tools on the outside.
Good video! I noticed the joint for the scissors were oiled, can you do a video on lubricating and long term care of a multi tool? Thanks
I wish they did not lose the saw, it would be easier to bring a small pocket file for sharpening. If that is my only tool i would’nt be able to use the file since it is attached to it. I can always bring a saw as well but that would be as large as the spirit itself as there are not many options or the options would be almost as large as the MXBS which defeats the purpose of the whole thing. That is me looking to use this outdoors in the woods.
However, I see this as marketed to more of an urban, rescue setting where one wouldnt necessarily have a need for a saw in making traps or shelter. A more of “spur of the moment” use.
In conclusion i think i need both.😂
Subscribed mate ive been watching many of your vids lately. great video.
Own a lot of leathermans and SAKs both are my favorites but let's face it... nothing outhere touches the Surge ! It's too much of a beast !
Can’t wait to get this tool in the 4.5 “ Swiss tool X .
I like the one hand opening but I can’t see why they never did a slip joint version for the EU market as I can’t carry this in the UK. I still want one for my collection.
That is an excellent point. Hopefully this is ushering in a new wave of Victorinox engineering in their SwissTool line.
Victorinox did add what you are asking for :) it’s called “Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit MX” (3.0224.MN)
This should be coming with the pocket clip for $200. That price warrants an included clip for sure.
Thank for this video.
I am waiting for Swisstool X and Spirit xc to arrive. Will wait for the silver version of MXBS to be available. Also ask military.sg whether will be restock
I wish to input here i think the best pouch for Swisstool is Nitecore npc 30 or 40 becasue they are molle, can carry horizon or vertical and belt carrier. Also very well constructed with a pen / flashlight slot outside pouch. It also has molle out outside for more attachments
Pretty interesting step up.
Thanks 🤘🏼
Such a neato tool. I really am loving mine!
Also, I have the leather sheath that holds all of the accessories, but I do wish it had a button instead of Velcro, as well. The sound drives me a bit crazy.
I know just what you mean.
It’s nice they finally added a one hand opening feature, but doesn’t the implementation of the tab effectively further shorten an already small blade?
I wish the Swiss Tool Spirit was more popular than it is, but, more for me!
I saw these when they made the rounds on reddit, but I didn't get one because I already have a spirit and it didn't seem like the tabs were worth buying another one.
Do the opening tabs interfere with your hand when you're gripping such that it can be uncomfortable at times when using the tools for heavier work?
They do.
Is the metal color mirror / chromed or black underneath when you scratch or sharpen the blade ?
I’m left handed and you do learn to kick out right handed tools with your middle/ring finger. Design if for the majority and the rest will learn how to make it work.
How have the notches for the one handed opening been for you now that you've had them for a couple years? Did you get used to it or did it become problematic?
This released the day after I ordered my spirit X. Sad day. I'll get one next year
Spirit X is a nice MT also.
WANT! Thanks for the review!
Big fan! Your endorsement of a product carries a lot weight.
Clumsy opening/catch/wear/hot spot points makes it loose functionality on ALL other tools.
Such crap easily solved with a frame cut out and thumb stud.
Hey there, great review!
Recently I was searching for Leatherman alternatives and I ended up seeing two interesting models on Alliexpress, and I am wondering about your opinion on them.
One is HuoHuo Mini, which seems inspired by Leatherman Micra but with a knife and package opener.
The other one is HuoHuo Flagship Pro that seems like Wave, but with way bigger scissors, they seem to be on par with those from Surge.
I haven’t seen those, but I will try to look into them.
I have been loving my SwissTool. I got a used one a couple months back. And lately I have eyeing a Spirit. This would be a great EDC tool for me. I will wait for these models to become more readily available. The one hand opening is huge for me too.
I use the knife, file, saw, and scissors a lot. I won’t purchase anything without those tools. I don’t get the seat belt cutter thing.
I miss the wood saw :-(
The pouch has been updated to 4.0841.NN model now.
Cool. I didn't know this existed. I think that sheath was designed for their Hunter Pro knife.
I didn't know that about the sheath, I'll have to look into it.
@@txtoolcrib I think they sell that as a general sheath for their larger tools, but it was introduced and comes with the Hunter Pro -- the non-pocket-clip models.
Can you add a pocket clip to the MXBS ?
I wish they would put the bit driver from the cybertools in them, instead of the file or the saw.
Great review.
Where i buy this version???
This is probably best multitool in the world. Victorinox + OH = masterpiece.
Link in the description.
Really great, but if they keep the metal file it is complete .Any way victorinox listening to customers
So where did all these disappear to? I cannot find any ?
thanx .wich versions of sprit you recommend bcoz their are different versions of sprit .and wich colour balck oxide or silver ? Your favorite and ur recommendations pls
I generally like the look of black oxide better, but I prefer regular stainless for everyday use. Over time the black oxide will wear, but many people like that worn look as well.
Do the tabs pinch the hand when using the pliers?
A little bit, you definitely notice them.
Cannot seem to find it.
Would you take the victorinox mxbs or the Leatherman Charge + G10 Earth? If you could only have one!
Wow! That’s a very good question and a tough choice. I think the Leatherman is still ahead for the much better blade steel and my preference for the Leatherman pliers. The MXBS has a little broader tool set though. Again, tough choice, but I take the Charge.
@@txtoolcrib maybe a good video to showcase. The best multitools head to head. At that price point
It's available this model??? Number model of Victorinox? How much? And where can I get one? Never see before, and no one notice about this model... Thanks!
Link is in the description
Something fishy about it coming from Singapore and not being on the Vic website.
Was made for military/security forces apparently and that website in Singapore is a military supplies website.
Genial pieza amigo 👍🔪👌
Gracias
Nice for the people who can legally carry it.
I used to love Leatherman. But since 2020, they lost their innovation, quality, and soul! I'm so disappointed in their customer service and rudeness. Just lost my trust. However, victorinox has been the best since I switched. Some features aren't the same, but I love the old school quality feel! Works when I need it, classy accessory when I don't. Great aesthetic.
Like mine a lot, use a kydex sheath which accommodates the tool perfectly. Victorinox does not have a good option for a sheath.
I really wish Maxpedition or another company would make a general purpose sheath like I already have but instead of velcro I would use a button snap like what we get on the new leatherman nylon sheaths. I would double down and have two on the main cover, or make my own ultra heavy duty button snap. I would probably have to make the sheath myself at home. I doubt anyone will make my idea reality.
@@mackjones7688 check out their sheath model number 4.0521.1, also shown in my most recent unboxing video, as well as model numbers 4.0833.L2 and 4.0823.L2 that come withl a spring catch or tuck locks.
Those do not look bad at all. I just wish they offered a belt sheath for all of their Swiss tools with easy “blind” one-hand access which would be ideal for this model. However, for now 3D print and Kydex is your best option in my humble opinion.
@@matthewstrunk605 They aren't bad sheaths. I do a lot of work and carry various full size multi tools on my person daily. I like to switch it up. I do not care to advertise for free. Only fools do that. The Maxpedition Single Sheath model 1411 has been great. I would only make a few modifications to make it better for particular multi tools. Such as the Center Drive, Super Tool 300, or Leatherman Surge for example.
I need this!
Hopefully they still have some in stock.
Where did you buy it from?
I looked on eBay and can’t find anything there

Sucks not being left-handed! Have fun doing a one hand opening and not getting a bo bo on you finger.
First show!
Is this the king of victorinox Swiss tools?
To some, it very well may be. One handed opening knife blades is a pretty big deal to me I know.
@@txtoolcrib I love it on Leatherman’s. On my multitools i need scissors, pocket clip and a pair of pliers.
💚💚💚
Thank you.
Hello,
According to you, swisstool spirit one-hand can be officially launched on the market (eg we can buy it on Amazon)
thank!
As far as I know, the MXBS is not available on Amazon as of yet. I provided a link in the description to direct people where they can purchase it though. I had to purchase mine out of Singapore.
@@txtoolcrib Thank you for your reply. I know we can buy it from the Singaporean site. But according to you, the Swiss tool spirit one-hand could be officially launched on the market in the future (for example in 2021). Because we can wait for the official and cheaper version.
Well, my hope is that Victorinox can see a rise in demand for this feature and eventually offer it for sale to a wider market. I apologize if I misspoke.
only if this one had a diamond file and a pair of scissors that are not nano-sized...
con sierra de madera en lugar de tijeras, seria perfecta. porque la verdad es que estas tijeras no son las mejores por la apertura tan limitada que tienen
They need to account for the european markets etc so one handed for blades is a no go.
magic fox not all EU countries ban one hand opening/ locking blades.
I prefer my spirit x. I would have less use to a multitool without a saw.
Sigh. Still no pocket clip.
Sadly, no.
I’m disappointed with the scissors of spirit. Victorinox carries a great reputation for their scissors on pocket knives but the one on spirit is a downgrade for me.i wish they kept the pair they have on alox models
I don’t know why they did that.
hi
first
Thank you for watching.
Buterknife is great
This is not classy ☺️😂
For sure
That thing is a lot sharper than I thought it was going to be.
@@txtoolcrib it looks like a gentleman’s butterknife that spreads the butter in the English country side cottage
but it is so sharp that fits to a knife killer🤪
This new feature in spirit
Makes it look like a wanna be butterfly knife
I can't wait to see the mod video where you make your ultimate Victorinox swiss tool from the swiss collection you own now. Ooops.... I almost forgot that Victorinox is the most inferior multitool for owner disassembly... bummer. I still put the idea for video content out there. 🤗
They are not very user friendly for disassembly, that is for sure.
