Just wanted to show y'all some gameplay comparisons I grabbed and have been working on for a bit!

That 2k field pass in 2023 would be insane
It's insane how much better the flow of a play looks/feels in 2k
They nearly perfected making a football game smooth man! Wish they could’ve kept growing after 2k8 with future titles.
I never even paid attention to them walking to the LOS. Such huge detail that adds to immersion. Tiny things like thay are what separates APF from Madden
100% !! Man I remember the first year they implemented things to where the offense just started lined up at the LOS directly after selecting a play. May be small and a non issue to some, but man it just felt so lame and non immersive.
They actually had the teams breaking from the huddle in every Madden before 20. Last time it actually looked good was in the PS2 era
The later Maddens just seem squarely pointed at online play; removed refs, coin toss, starting off at LOS. Stuff just meant to make each game go faster, at the expense of immersion. Same reason that franchise mode has been garbage; they don't want you to play that, but here, buy some MUT packs.

So basically what i see is madden 24 is finally slowly starting to look a little more like all pro2k8 lol 2k8 movement and animations are still king. It's wild. Thise development team needs a chance at a new game. I hope the new 2k arcade game isnt trash or diff development team

Appreciate you covering this topic. I still enjoy 2k8 and 2k5. Feels like the players have weight and are grounded vs Madden with thr players being suspended from strings.

Madden needs to just start over. The player models don’t look worthy of ps5 let alone a good ps3 game.
2k has far superior models and movement on every level.

Even the crowd booing sounds sound louder in NCAA Football 06 than in Madden
Crowd noise was amazing back in those old NCAA games !! Always stunk in madden.

2k8 is so flawless and beautiful compared to Madden. What I would give for a modern day version with NFL team, players, superstar mode etc. Would be so insane

Always hated how TD celebrations in madden are made towards the center of the field and not fluid 😆 meanwhile NFL 2k is so fluid and actually directed towards the camera/crowd.
This is such a great point I didn’t even really notice myself ! The players really don’t actually look at or acknowledge the crowd on those 😭
I think its important to note that some of the Madden examples are recorded by simulating practice mode, which makes it look more acceptable, as the cpu can run the scripted gameplay as intended (WITHOUT USER INTERFERENCE - aka the reason one would buy the game). Apf excels in those little details and fluidities between animations, i.e. the reach out for the first down, the QB mechanics, the hit on the intermediate pass receiver. Would be crazy to see how the devs on that game would have given life to it on these newer consoles with better player builds and graphics. Now these features are either pipe dreams or marketing promises (so not promises at all) by EA.
Great observation man!! This is a really good way to look at the fine details and develop even more appreciation for what those 2k devs were putting out for us. We had no idea how good we had it. Would love to see what they could do today.

Dude the difference in height on the deep ball between Madden and 2k8 is insane. Fade routes are another great example of this.
Great observation. I always absolutely loved how the ball trajectory always looked better and more natural in APF. Especially the deep balls. Madden still can’t get that natural beauty to show.
The Blocking. All blocking, including pocket protection and downfield blocking, is still the best in a football sim. Ball trajectory still the best in any football game. Catching animation, running animation, passing animation, tackling animation, impact moves, and animations all look fluid and smooth. 2k8 had an interactive sideline, theu had players and sidelines reacting to big plays good or bad in 2k8, the crowd cheers louder for the home team and goes a little quiet when the away team gets a big play. Weather had an impact on the game. When a player was injured, your team, coaches, and medics would check on him or call the Dr over. They reacted as they should. Injuries in real time was a cool detail. You could pull a muscle or hammy on D and still finish the play sometimes. You could have multiple players injured on 1 play if I'm remembering correctly. While being blocked you could use one of the thumb sticks to reach out for an arm tackle. The AI reacted realistically the majority of the time. Defensive A.I. played great. Db and Safties didn't just act lost and madden like. The game took skill. You were ore accurate with the feet planted and stepping into a pass. Timing helped too for routes. 3 and 5 step drops were key with timing. You actually had a realistic pocket that you could climb. You couldn't throw off your back foot across the field running backwards and still be accurate. A bunch of different passing styles to choose from for your Created player.. presentation is still better than Madden. The game is still the GOAT football sim. It feels and plays realistically. The catching animations are still beautiful and look natural. The ball trajectory is still the best in any football game. The fade worked. You could actually throw it to where only your WR could catch it or no one could. The corner of the endzone and it always looked beautiful. I think the field had real time wear and tear during the game. Snow and rain would make your Kicker, qb, wr, db. Ect slip sometimes. This was all done on 2007 3gens ago. A lot of these features are still not in madden 3gens and 17 years later. The things that are in madden are not done as good and just got added this gen. Ps5 xbox series. 2k8 had problems it had janky moments and bs moments but it is still the goat football sim. It is just sad what Madden is compared to what they easilt should be. The fact that 2k8 had all these features so long ago EA can NOT blame anyth8ng on hardware limitations.. they just have no reason to try and come up with new features and cool ideas because they are the only ones that can make a licensed football sim. They don't want to put the time, effort, money, and hardwork on new ideas or changes because football fans will buy madden. Because lack of choices. I so bad want EA and Madden to be great again and be successful and make a true football sim. They to me are making arcade games. I'm hoping that Maximum does well enough and learns enough to give madden some competition so that the have to try or that 2k still makes their arcade nfl game that "will very as close to sim as possible without being labeled a sim" I'm just glad in the near future we will have 4 football games made by 4 different developers. 4 different gameplay styles 4 different feels. 2 F2P 1 high school 1 college. I hope the best for all of them.

EA is locked into an engine in which you there’s no sense of gravitation pull. They need a second dev team to aim for a 3-4 yr reboot.
As for the shoulder drop…that’s Anthony Richardson. He’s a slinger like Mahomes and doesn’t use his feet conventionally on followthrough’s. Zach Wilson tried this as well…
I think he means the idle stance they default to after the animation. Not being negative.. it is a small detail but it adds up- anytime a player is not in an interaction they just sort of act as if in a void and lose all connection to the play unless theyre celebrating

You’re absolutely right ! It’s reboot time and there’s no other way to save this series than rebuilding it from the ground up and scrapping frostbite.

I think the issue is the NFL gave EA Sports an exclusive license that did more bad over time. Would someone buy a used Xbox 360 or PS3 to play old games like All Pro 2k8?
I actually bought an OG xbox so I could play NFL 2k5 and the old NCAA football games
I eventually grabbed a PS3 just so I could help satisfy the urge to play a football game and it helped so much. I was finally able to give up madden completely. Looked into emulation after getting a PC and it made playing those old football titles even easier. I couldn’t recommend grabbing an old console more for anyone who wants to wean off of Madden !

we have and did...but emulators are best...4k 60 gameplay
what PS3 emulator are you using? and where can I get All Pro Football rom? I was once using RPC3S emulator, but recently, there have been some issues with playing it in high resolutions.
So sorry im late on getting back to this ! I’ve actually been using RPCS3 and it’s worked fine for the most part ! I grabbed a physical PS3 disc copy of the game and ripped/dumped the files from it using this tutorial ruclips.net/video/mRxSKxoYt_g/видео.htmlsi=iXWnBPJbdKWyCycb . Have barely run into any issues with the game after using that method. When I tried to use downloaded roms from online , I could NEVER get it to work unfortunately. Ripping the disc was all that worked for me.
If you haven't figured out that Madden been selling BETA games since '13 by now that's sad. Just so they could copy APF 2K8, the reason why they change game engines. But the problem is they using a game engine design for RPGs & not sports!
Unfortunately guys. We may never get a game like APF 2K8 this again.
I still play all pro 2k8 on my xbox 360 and my pc. Mainly because I like playing in realistic sideview. All the maddens I have seen only have replay sideview. Does madden 24 have playable sideview?

I really hope that rumored 2k football game drops soon. It’s been in development hell for the longest. It may not be allowed to be a “simulation” NFL game, but at least it’ll be some kind of change.
They should make a all pro again if they can still use retired player. Randy moss, Tony gonzalez, Michael Vick, Antonio gates, Steve McNair, Payton manning, Brett farve,Troy Polamalu etc.

Tackling in Madden is atrocious, what is with all the hand-off tackles where one guy starts tackling, hands the tackle off to someone else and they stop tackling and the other guy finishes it. In isolation, madden has some nice animations but combine them into an animation driven game and lord it's a mess and looks less fluid and realistic than games 15-20 years ago. Don't even get me started on presentation, it's a joke in Madden.
Right ! The gang tackling, shifting , clipping, and just clunky looking physics when the players contact each other will always be so infuriating with these new maddens.

That’s a tough one! 2k8 perfected the gameplay 2k5 had, but the lack of content and NFL teams is always tough to get over. Just depends on the day for me! Love them both. How about you?

EA knew they had a far inferior product to ESPN 2K5 so instead of making a better product, they bought their way to exclusivity. Shame on EA and the NFL (who is supposed to promote competition). Ridiculous that they still haven't put out a better game than 2K5 (so I hear since I haven't bought one since 06), especially with how much technology has changed.
APF 2K8 is still dope ASF and Madden 23 look pretty good and might actually be the last good looking Madden bc 24 look 🗑️🚮

Got madden 23 for 5 bucks at the pawn shop. Last one I got was 19 . There’s no time in the pocket and way to many interceptions,this is not that much fun to play

NFL 2K Games: All-Pro Football 2K8 is better than any Madden game.
I'm so tired of everyone talking about the old NFL 2k5 and 2k8 games. APF 2k8 was ass! No franchise mode or current players, only legends and fake teams. NFL 2k5 was good for its time, but it's unplayable now IMO, yet people have so much disdain for EA and Madden, that they still mod this game and update the rosters for it. NFL 2k5 wasn't even the best football game in 2004 when it released. That would have been Madden 2005. Now, I'm by no means a Madden fanboy, in fact, I think Madden has been trash since Madden 12, but the love people still continue to heap upon 2k5 is insane. Take away the presentation from that game, and they would have had to sell it for $10 instead of $20 like they were doing at the time.
The Franchise mode was garbage. You couldn't fire or change coaches, and even simple things like editing players or moving them to a different position was daunting. You had to rapidly press the X button (for PS2) in order to sprint. QB AI in this game was also laughable. QBs would throw picks like they're going out of style and the game was very sluggish. In fact, NFL 2K4 was a better game than 2K5, especially gameplay. Its getting to the point now where I might have to make a video pointing out all the reasons why 2K5 is a very overrated game. Say what you will about Madden in its current state, but I couldn't go back and play NFL 2k5 unless I was feeling nostalgic.
I do feel like this but 2k5 was smooth and realistic from ref reviews to a deep franchise mode
Feel free to make the video, cause the gameplay from 2k5 and APF 2k8 is still superior to the trash from Madden.

Now this is definitely a take you don’t don’t see much about the old 2k games😮. I respect it though ! They hit the spot for me every single time I go back to 2k5/2k8. Madden 05 is my favorite madden but I did like 2k5 more. I honestly get why you would have some of these opinions about the 2k games. I’d always be welcome to seeing a video like that if you did want to get one going !
