Each year in September, Brisbane Festival is concluded by Riverfire, a fireworks spectacular which ignites the city. As part of the display, the Royal Australian Air Force flies military aircraft at very low altitudes in the CBD. This year, the No. 36 Squadron, based at Amberley, will fly a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III down the Brisbane River at 300 feet. Watch on to see how the RAAF rehearses for this event!
They are military strategic airlift. They are specially designed for it. What is odd is training over an urban area like that. That is unsafe, and likely ticks a red box on the safety matrix.
Although impressive, they’re not a patch on the F111’s we enjoyed every year up until 2010 when they were retired, now they were spectacular with the dump and burn, I believe the yanks were banned from that party trick as well, bummer dudes but look at the bright side, you can have all the guns you like, we can’t!😂
Great video thank you, love watching these birds, and the pilots at the cock pit, amazing aircraft short run ways designed for high maneuverability and turns into those places that dont have what we may have in metro areas.
Let’s bring back the F1-11 for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics! no city had yearly low flying dump and burns meters from their city buildings like Brisbane had. Already 10 years since they gone.
I’m glad some countries can have a show of aviation like this. Super cool. 9/11 kinda killed seeing planes fly by buildings, being a nice sight to see in the US.
Here’s a great video taken by the crew of an RAAF EA18 fighter during the rehearsals of the 2019 event. It’s a 360 video - you can scroll around to see different angles and directions: ruclips.net/video/AxakfXUMDtE/видео.html
That makes no sense. Seeing a military aircraft fly by locally would make civilians feel more secure. I think your government has money to spend elsewhere.
@@ActiveAussie2024 I was there for one in 2005. And talking to some of the crew, it was done as a training mission - which they had to do a certain number of each year to keep their flight status. The fuel was going to be used anyway.
There is a cockpit video of this doing the rounds, where the Collision warning system is going berserk, "Obstacle Obstacle, Obstacle Left, Obstacle Right, Obstacle, Obstacle"..........
These people are crazy... And not in a good way. Complete disregard for anyone's safety. The warnings are there for a reason. To think that this is the same government that locked down an entire country over a common cold virus - "for their safety".
I was at RiverFire last night for the actual airshow, it looks like they flew the C17 alot lower than that. I came just for that and left before the helicopters and fireworks went on.
This pilot must have been trained by maverick! ( lol joking ) This pilot has been trained very well and his/her skills shows it! Is it sad that small media is using theses clips are being used as a Taliban clip? The sad thing is most people believe it.
It was great to listen to this C17 do its second dive run over the top of the house I was working on that day. That sound you here on the video as the engins tape more pressure on the downward plunge as he comes over the house and then we see him as it clears the house and then pull up from the dive, it was cool to watch this antiquated combustion technology go through the actions to days before the River Fire show.
What an awesome sight, even the video gives goosebumps, wish I could have known about this would have taken my boys to see it, must have been spectacular for the pilots & crew also. 👌👌
To all the people who are commenting about this in a negative way, trust me when I say that this type of training can only be done doing it, not on a simulator, so really this is saving tax payers in the long run, PR for river fire and training for when they MAY have to fly like this in a real situation.
Noted. But it's always ok if it's going well, not so good if it all goes wrong. If it does go wrong it will not be pretty. And why does a C17 need to be flying through a city, food drops?
Townsville raaf base everyday from Chinook, eurotiger ,black hawk, U.S b52 bomber U.S Osprey, C17, jets daily basis b52 bomber was actually as higher than airport an 4 X longer than c17 . Looks mad when see them take off or land especially if see a Chinook fly over your house low with jeeps on chains
They're flying with what looks like 20 degrees of flap which won't help you if you need speed to climb in an emergency. You can see them losing some altitude in the sharp bank-angle right-hand turn which is not what you want in a large aircraft flying so low and over a built-up area. Have you seen the famous video of the USAF B52 executing a low-altitude sharp turn, stalling a wing and going straight down into a power station. One of these days their little show-off antics will end badly too.
@@MelbourneMatty Im just saying, Its happened more than once.. It could happen again, but in a vastly more built up area.. Rest assured if it does happen, I will not give a fuck.. I'll just enjoy the 4k footage whilst sipping a heineken. I love plane crashes tbh

Riverfire has had a RAAF air show as part of the festival for the past 20 years. Normally it's fast jets doing night time flare runs (F-111s used to open and close the festival with Dump & Burns) but the C17s have been hugely popular and are now the crowd favorite so they make it the main display.
It’s good to know that they’re in the neighbourhood. Showing a face & actively window dressing for China to see. Apart from that. How stunning is it to see a behemoth aircraft that size flying @ such a low altitude amongst urban high rises.A sight to behold.
It's incredible to see, and quite the thrill, but a lot of people will get flashbacks to 9/11. I see the majority of comments are favorable, but I just can't go there. Peace
Jeff Gogo..yes. PTSD over 9/11 and can never recover from. Riverfire held on 20th anniversary of 9/11 and with so much media coverage....repetitive tv footage of planes crashing into the Trade Towers I felt I bit of a shiver when I saw this clip of low flying plane with high rise.
I see this behemoth flying almost daily around my hometown 😊 it’s based out at Amberley and I never get tired of watching it fly around 😊
I can remember seeing it when I'd be driving home to Ipswich from work. It's so big you wonder how it can stay up there.
