I've been watching Crit Role for about a year and still, the more I learn about her the more amazed I am. How the fuck has no one offered her a record deal with that voice?

Irk?! I saw her first on critical role and she was instantly one of my favorite characters. Then I found she acted in blind spot (still need to watch that). Then I knew she was a voice actor so I looked up her voiced acting jobs and was pretty shocked when I learned she voiced Ellie from the last of us! And now I learn she can sing amazingly.

Laura is the main vocal of the first verse, they literally show it in the video, how can people be so stubborn about their incorrect 'fact'? You have to be both tone deaf and not have watched the "making of..." video to be wrong about this.
Did you know when creating The Last Of Us Part II Trailer and they had Ashley sing that she sang so well they had to hire a singing coach to teacher her how to sing worse for the trailer.

How does it make no sense?
She's not singing as Ashley Johnson though, she's singing as the character of a young girl who is living in a post-apocalyptic "zombie" world. Ellie isn't supposed to sound polished and professional like this.
once you learn to sing and have a good ear for pitch and tone it is almost impossible to not do it...so yes she had to be taught to sing worse. To sing worse but still not be horrible and listenable is a tough thing to do almost as tough as someone horrible learning to sing good.

@@Fivesthecreator I’m literally traumatized. Emotionally recovering by trying to learn guitar songs Joel played in game. I learned the song he played to Ellie in the beginning, now I’m trying to learn the one he plays on the porch before Ellie walked up during the final cutscene. Ashley and Troy actually performed It live one time as well.
But yeah I agree. I have never been made more uncomfortable, unresolved and ragefull from a game before. They steal him from you and then have the audacity to force you to play as his murderer in what feels like trying to justify her actions to make way for a new protagonist in a future installment? Like no. You killed him, I’m going to kill you. I so hope a Pt. III is made where Ellie picks back up her feet from her loss at the end of Pt. II and tracks Abby down one last time, and ends it… for Joel.

It's so funny. I know Ashley Johnon almost exclusively from Critical Role, so when your only experience of Ashley singing has been "YoU gOt ThE PerFecT WaRlOck," it's amazing to see her really letting loose in her own element. I never knew she was this good, you love to see it.
Small edit: Even though her doing the DnD beyond jingle in sam's bit was kind of like, intentionally bad, it's still a favorite moment of mine and I don't want to sound critical (ha ha), because I still think it's the best version of the dnd beyond jingle to ever grace our ears.
So yasha bought a harp and now I really hope she multi classes into a bard
I mean, Matt threw some extra strength at Fjord in the form of a banana-leaf cocoon just to fit Paladin multiclassing requirements, so why can't he throw some random charisma at Yasha? Go Valor Bard for the combat inspiration and save it for crits. Plus, she'd have the reaction ability and could focus on non-concentration spells.
They talked about this in the most recent episode of talks. She essentially said that when she asked matt about multiclassing as a bard, he said it was doable but since her stats were so low in wis, it wouldn't make sense for her and she wouldn't get much out of it. but obviously that she could if she wanted. But I think she decided against it.
@@davisonmp28 I'm familiar with that talks. But you're either misquoting, or made a typo, or they themselves made an error during talks.
A. Why would Wisdom have anything to do with it? Bard uses Charisma. Multiclassing requirements would be Charisma. Tons of bards have had low wisdom, Scanlab being one of them. Am I missing something? I think not.
B. Her charisma is actually lower than her wisdom (7 versus 9), so that's even worse.
C. Matt LITERALLY has already demonstrated a willingness to basically ignore multiclassing requirements. Fjord did NOT have enough strength to multiclass to paladin. But my comment mentioned the leaf cocoon, which magically gave him the minimum strength required.
D. THUS, like my original post said, Matt could do the same thing to Yasha, due to the precedent he already set. Give her a boost from some sort of blah blah it blah blah stormlord blah blah sing my name.
E. Something I didn't say earlier is that it in no way SHOULD happen, despite my obsession with multiclassing and the fact that it would at least be cool. A jump from 7 Charisma to 13 is a jump of SIX points. That would be too much for Matt to explain with a narrative wave of his hand like he did with Fjord. At least he only had a jump of 2, I think. Going from 11 (or 10, whatever it was) to 13 is a lot more forgivable, especially considering that story-wise he was a little trapped when it comes to power progression. Even though there IS a precedent for Matt throwing some random extra ability score increases to his characters as long as it is extremely necessary and fits the narrative, there isn't really a precedent for the LOSS of 9+ levels of power, Fjord certainly couldn't really gain more power from his patron. The best way forward was exactly what happened- Fjord don't lose any power he already gained, we substitute the Wildmother in to be the new source of that same power (like switching out old batteries for new ones), and any new power will come from the Oath he's sworn to her (Ancients, Redemption, Devotion...they all could fit....but that's another discussion).

Ellie sings this to feverish, nearly dying Joel, during winter (it's some old song from one of the tapes she stole from Bill; she recalls Joel humming it to himself).
Ellie doesn't know it, but Joel half-wakes then.
Not enough to move or talk, and Ellie doesn't even notice the change in his breathing, before he dips back under again, back into the warm fuzziness of sleep.
Ellie warms her hands and continues to sing under her breath, waiting for the snow outside to stop, just for a moment.
Spring. Ellie, unconscious in Joel's arms, and he can't help but think of how small she looks.
The elevator moves slowly, grinding. A thought, no, a memory, drifts into Joel's mind. He holds Ellie close, the floor numbers going by slowly, and he sings.
"There is a house in New Orleans," he sings, almost silent, voice cracking like broken glass (it's been a hell of a long time since he's sung), "they call the Rising Sun."
He stops, and, after a moment, he chuckles, that weak broken chuckle of someone who hasn't laughed in a while. "I forget the rest," he whispers to the sleeping girl. "Well, I told you I'd sing for you, right?" He looks at her, hoping she'll respond. But whatever drugs the doctors gave her hold fast, and she doesn't stir.
The elevator dings. Doors swing open. Joel fumbles for the stop button, steps out.
"Stop." Joel stops, and he looks at the woman who had tried to take everything away from him, tried to take *Ellie* away. "You can't save her."
If there was ever a chance that Marlene survived this, it was lost there, when she said that.
As Joel put a bullet in Marlene's head, he can't help but think, "I bet you would never sing to her."
Joel tries to bring that song up to Ellie later, when they're settled down at Tom's place. "I sang to you, in the elevator," he says. "You weren't waking up, so I, uh. I sang to you. 'House of the Rising Sun.'"
She doesn't remember.
