My brain is still trying to comprehend the absolute insane talent happening in this video; the actors, the design, the directing, the band, the music. You can feel that everyone put their soul into this, and we truly thank you for it. I have never more in my life wanted to just be wrapped up in a music video. Not sure if that’s weird…. Sorry… BUT SERIOUSLY THIS IS SO FUCKING COOL. Great job guys, so happy for you all.
The following is an analysis of the video by jumbo from June 2 2023 "Here’s my thoughts on it. I’m in film school, and I was a Choir student for 12 years. This is all just incredible. Just figured I’d share my thoughts! Digging into the lyrics, the song is about a guy who wants to fall in love with a girl but can’t because he’s insecure that he’s too boring and predictable. Paradoxically, he wants to put himself out there and do great and exciting things - presumably to have something to talk about - but he’s too scared to do that too. He wants to be something, but he’s not saying anything at all literally and figuratively. Thus, the song’s title, Portrait of a Blank Slate, is an oxymoron representing the psyche of this hypothetical man. The music video is full of silent era components and surrealist imagery, which is a great way for director Ted Nivison to say he’s a film buff without saying he’s a film buff. Though it’s what he states in his BTS video, I drew much more from his vision than mere efforts to be “weird,” “old,” or “trippy.” I think the choice to splice public domain medical footage in with the rest of the music video expresses the hypothetical man’s acknowledgement that he is, on the most rudimentary level, exactly how everyone else exists. It’s fitting that footage that everyone has access to was used to convey that he’s got a body, he’s got a brain, and he feels he has nothing unique to do with it. I know that he’s telling himself this because of the edit that rapidly match cuts between the test subject and the scientist helming the experiment just before the title slides of various illnesses. Sometimes, match cuts are just done to create a smooth transition from one thing to another, but I firmly believe this is one of those cases suggesting the two subjects linked by the match cuts are one and the same. He is the test subject, and the scientists are the voices in his head, deconstructing him to the point of illness… mental illness. The lyrics sung at this exact point are “I guess you know now what to expect He lives your own life in retrospect You know it bores me? These insecurities Breaks you down just to act as the architect” Rewatching the music video again, I immediately paused it at this part and replayed it because it stood out to me as perfect synchronicity between soundtrack and cinematic language. This was certainly my favorite part, and this level of artistry totally stays maintained from start to finish. Lovejoy’s song slaps, Ted Nivison did a fine job directing the music video, and both parties accomplished so much in so little time. The project may tell a story about lacking individuality, but the project itself definitely earns its own"
it’s crazy to see how far lovejoy has come in terms of production value since the taunt mv! this is a masterpiece, kudos to ted and everyone else who helped create it ❤

As someone who is incredibly picky when it comes to music, this is absolute fire. The lyrics are incredibly well thought out, and there isn't a dull moment in this song.

we're so proud of you guys, this whole mv is sick and its genuinely so cool how ted directed this as well, a big shout out of thank you to all who worked on this behind the scenes !! so excited for what's to come of you guys in the future lovejoy.
This entire album was amazing, but ive been listening to this song on repeat. It hits so hard! Lovejoy never disappoints! ❤
Sorry…
BUT SERIOUSLY THIS IS SO FUCKING COOL.

Mv = music video
They like the concept (idea) of the music video, and think the way they made the music video is incredible.
They like the costumes (what the characters in the music video are wearing) and set design (how the area the music video got recorded in)of the music video
They also liked how the lyrics (song text) matched up with the music video
They think its a 10/10 music video and give the team that made it props (look at it as if they give their respect to the team that made it)
@@Koulstart After reading over the lyrics, I think the guy being experimented on is gaining a new perspective to life due to the music and wants to break free from the repetitiveness of it all, but realizes he can’t and just gives up.
