  • In this jam, I'm exploring the Roland TR-6S' capability to sequence external instruments, in this case the MAM (Music And More) ADX-1, 5-voice analog drum module 🥁!
I used 4 tracks (white illuminated faders, labeled LT, HC, CH and OH) of the TR-6S to sequence 4 parts of the ADX-1 (named Synth, Snare, Hihat and Metal). I even used the "alternate instrument" sequencing feature of the TR-6S to sequence for example the closed/opened Hihat of the ADX-1 (i.e. sending 2 different notes to only one part of the ADX-1) 😃
At first I only wanted to use the TR-6S as a sequencer (not its internal sounds), however I ended up using on Track 1 its "CR-78" kick, on Track 2 its new "808 Chromatic Bass", and also layering the parts played by the ADX-1 with sounds from the TR-6S (4 last tracks). Fun fact: I didn't use any samples here 😉 All the sounds coming from the TR-6S are from the modeling ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) engine!
To be able to change the bass pitches coming from the TR-6S, I used different "variations" of the pattern, with different tunings of the "808 Chromatic Bass".
It was not very easy to jam with the Sequential Take 5 synth and change the pattern's variations at the same time, but nonetheless still fun and challenging 😅

1:30 instead of pressing your next variation, you can hold it and sequence variations to some degree. its no "song mode", but it IS something.

Thanks for your comment Slack! Actually I've used this feature a few times but wasn't able to use it here as each variation needed to play at least 2 times before switching to the other (unless there's a little trick to do so? 🤔)

@@2MinuteWarning I actually was wondering that myself! I've tried holding buttons and pressing them twice and such, but it just seems like it only rotates thru them one at a time... id love an update with a song mode. it kind of keeps me from using the tr-6s for certain things.

@@totalSLACK You can also chain patterns (only in increasing order) which means you can make more than 8-bar loops, but it's no real song mode indeed 😊

I have a take 5 paired with a drumlogue. Couldnt of asked for a better first synth. That filter is just perfect for what i wanted. Add a little reverb and your ready to make bangers. Would love to see you pair them together.

The Take 5 really is a beautiful and versatile synth! For sure I will consider making a video with the Take 5 and Drumlogue in the near future 😉

Wonderful piece of Dreamy cinematic synthwave my friend , Rolands soundbanks are really impressive , especially the Bass section , i still havent figured out to sequence more than two external synths without them playing on all channels , obvioysly getting the midi section right 🥺🥺🥺
    Beutiful track my man 😉👍jaffa

Glad you enjoyed this one Jaffa! 🤗 The TR-6S really is a bang for the buck especially since the v2.0 integrating the "CR-78" and "808 Chromatic Bass" modelisation 🤩
Otherwise could you tell me a bit more about what you are planning to do exactly? As far as I understand, you have a setup like this for example: SEQUENCER MIDI OUT > SYNTH1 MIDI THRU > SYNTH2?
In this setup for example, if you set SYNTH1 to receive only MIDI channel 1 and SYNTH2 only channel 2 (considering your SEQUENCER is sending on channel 1 for SYNTH1 and channel 2 for SYNTH2), the 2 synths should not play all the channels (maybe your SYNTHS MIDI channel parameters are set to OMNI, which could explain why they react to all the channels? 🤔)

Apart from the obvious parts (1 more voice of polyphony, more keys and bigger keys...) it seems to me that the Take 5 sound a bit more analog than the Minilogue XD. Probably because the Take 5 has snappier envelopes and a beautiful sounding filter (based on the Prophet 5 Rev 4). The Take 5 is also more versatile as it plays very nice basses, pads, leads etc. In my taste the Minilogue XD can lack a bit of bass and percussive sounds. However the Minilogue XD has a lot to offer to with its customizable oscillator and effects. It is also way more transportable than the Take 5 😅 Will have to spend more time with the Take 5 to have a final opinion though 😊

@@2MinuteWarning good points, but the take-5 not only gorgeous and huge sounding, but the most versatile analog polysynth. it has the depth of a prophet 12 with its cross-modulatable fm in the mod matrix (fm osc1, osc2, morphing waveshapes, fx, filter, anything) but also add envelopes as modifiers to the mod sources, combine hard sync and fm for more stable pitched fm timbres. you can have a totally organic powerful sounding fm woodblock or glass tone bloom out into a wild fizzy throbbing brass pad. its insane how much versatility they packed into such an elegant and strong sounding analog vco based polysynth. and it is still somehow SERVERELY underrated.
if youve never used a prophet 12, i urge you to try one, or read the manual/watch some programming tutorials so you can apply those techniques to the take-5. its very similar, even with the added drive. they are sort of like the elektron boxes in that way, once you learn a new one, it helps you understand your old ones
