You shouldn't be able to start a restaurant, call it McDonalds, and use their name for your profit. The main problem here is that React is such an incredibly generic name. It would have been interesting to see whether they would have been granted the trademark for it of if like patents there's a requirement that the object in question be non-obvious.

I'm glad this made people...REACT...on how messed up this idea was. We've seen RUclips screw everyone simply because it's hard to fight for the case of fair use. Seeing the Fine Bros take the brunt of this is truly telling of how the community is tired of it!
I made a video about this apology myself. In that video I stated that I forgive them. I forgive them because they are human beings, and that all humans make mistakes, and everyone deserves a second chance. HOWEVER: I do not excuse them of all the shit they have done. How they clearly knew what they were doing from day one, and even with the push-back, continued to press forward until they hit so much resistance that they ran out of gas. I do not excuse their unprofessional actions and how they unprofessionally conducted themselves. Also I need to not only keep an eye on them, but others like them that will attempt this. They arn't the only ones. There are millions of channels like theirs. Any one of them could go too far. While I was reading their written apology, it was apparent to me that it was rushed. There are grammar mistakes and run-on sentences all over the place. There are also a number of contradictions in that apology that makes it seem like they are saying, sorry, not sorry. RUclips will never be the same. I will forgive, but I will never forget.

They had all of these leadup videos to the "special announcement" 2 announcement videos on 2 channels, and one "explanation" video. If you believe so much in your apology, put it out there in video form. Lets see your faces, because I dont believe this. I dont believe it any more than the "update" video. The internet needs to remain vigilant. We need to keep the pressure on the Fine Bros. We need to continue to hold them accountable when this is no longer trending on Twitter and Reddit has another fish to fry. We need to make sure that they dont try to do this again, but without all of the fanfare. We need to make sure that next year these terms arent attempted to be copyrighted.

You shouldn't be able to start a restaurant, call it McDonalds, and use their name for your profit. The main problem here is that React is such an incredibly generic name. It would have been interesting to see whether they would have been granted the trademark for it of if like patents there's a requirement that the object in question be non-obvious.

I made a video about this apology myself. In that video I stated that I forgive them.
I forgive them because they are human beings, and that all humans make mistakes, and everyone deserves a second chance.
HOWEVER:
I do not excuse them of all the shit they have done. How they clearly knew what they were doing from day one, and even with the push-back, continued to press forward until they hit so much resistance that they ran out of gas.
I do not excuse their unprofessional actions and how they unprofessionally conducted themselves.
Also I need to not only keep an eye on them, but others like them that will attempt this. They arn't the only ones. There are millions of channels like theirs. Any one of them could go too far.
While I was reading their written apology, it was apparent to me that it was rushed.
There are grammar mistakes and run-on sentences all over the place. There are also a number of contradictions in that apology that makes it seem like they are saying, sorry, not sorry.

I really hope people tweeted their sponsors and their television stations. Because an apology letter on some obscure site that's just retweeted (and probably monetized somehow for the privilege of their apology on their site) isnt enough. They had all of these leadup videos to the "special announcement" 2 announcement videos on 2 channels, and one "explanation" video. If you believe so much in your apology, put it out there in video form. Lets see your faces, because I dont believe this. I dont believe it any more than the "update" video. The internet needs to remain vigilant. We need to keep the pressure on the Fine Bros. We need to continue to hold them accountable when this is no longer trending on Twitter and Reddit has another fish to fry.
