2:00 One surefire way to protect antenna and remote control: Put them in the back. The enemy would have to go through the front and the central battery or cargo to get to those parts. And at that part, they got through the center, so it hardly matters anymore. You want the control block as far away from the enemy in normal combat operations as possible.

For extreme range drone control you can make a relay drone with laser antenna and a normal antenna bounce a control signal from your location to the relay drone via the laser antennas and then have the drone broadcasting out to max range via normal antenna. This will let you control any other drone around the relay drone out to the max broadcasting range of it's antenna. With no limit to the distance between your actual location and the relay drones location. You can also have the relay drone work as a charging station for other drones. You may also connect more than one relay drone together to bend the laser signals around objects or make overlapping normal antenna fields to make larger drone control area's.
Seeing these vids has helped in my meager creative mayhem. Used to be I'd just copy paste static ships to blow each other up. Only now after a long time am I starting to tinker with survival. But makes it more fun now that I know how to set up basic drones.
I utilize drones mainly for patrolling supply lines to some automated ice gathering posts I've built, but they were pretty damn expensive drones. I'll have to fiddle around possibly with a larger volume of cheaper ones like this.

So the obvious one would be to use solar panels, but because of their size they wouldn't necessarily be the best option for a small drone. What I like to do is tho have a 1 or maybe 2 small reactors specifically for charging.

If you are thinking about the aspect of a " swarm " style then a mobile launch platform can work out but if you are using it as more of a recon drone that does not have a M.L.P. SPACE DRONES Well I know that in "current colony survival" series there is a list of technologies that you can use and I'm talking about hover engines or plates?(didn't found the moment to look up the name of the things name) Anyway, use the hover plates on the side of the drones, they have very handy function" 0 damage bumper" the collisions can be avoided and it can use those to move as well. So make a basic drone innards and place 2 thrusters facing front and back 1 for 1 direction. > Coat it with armor. > position hover plates from out sides, up and bottom. Optional you also can: - position Gatling guns from sides protruding from heavy armor.(not turrets) - add more thrusters to the back and make it speed oriented drone.(quick and too small to hit) - shape it as you like it. Turn it into mining drone if you wanna(actually it might work wonderfully, no crashing into tunnel walls, no "I did it again") Cheers!
It also could be interesting to have two drones patrolling, one with a bottom turret flying 3 m below the one with a top turret, together they have 360° coverage (+room for charging connectors)
I just thought of this but what if u were to make a battleship drone that u could control from a distance and if a bunch of players came aboard the ship u have 2 options; self destruct the ship OR kamikaze into the other ship or base something to keep in mind for a challenge to try during colony wars ;)
I think a drone with a connector for charging Makes sense. Perhaps two drones could patrol one area. The first can recharge while the second patrols and then they can swap (taking up only one connector.)
if you put wind turbines along the rout will it charge of them wirelessly or do they need plugging in you might need a script and two time blocks one to tell the other its flat so it goes to a charging point
Ive run into an issue with automated drone production, the welder station i made can make a drone craft, but i cant access the remote control block to engage its autopilot to make it patrol after cutting it free from the printer, any tips?

Classclown 102 yes, you’d need a welder and a projector on the ground. It seems like it could be more efficient to just weld ships from projectors using a welding ship.
Hey LastStandGamers, I have a feeling that your mouse sensitivity is way too high for recording videos. The constant jerking causes me vertigo.^^ My suggestion would be to check out what kinda settings FPS professionals use and go from there.
Make another drone, call it a "Charger Drone", then fly it from your Outpost to another remote location and find a drone to charge, dock to it using a Rotor head, then charge it up! then undock and fly back home to your Outpost.
can you make a drone go to a different specific waypoint when its power reaches a certain threshold? basically patrol until power is 15% then go and recharge its self then return to patrol?

Agree. Missiles are overrated. Yes, they can be useful to deal with larger ships and it is usually a good idea to have at least one launcher as decisive factor. But majority of turrets should be defensive PDC's, both causing decent damage and providing defense from players and enemy missiles. Exact proportions depend on how much offensive ship we design, though it mostly relate to additional launchers as all ships need defense. Almost always when someone put those 50/50 he is a n00b though.
I believe it's mainly for PvP, a lazer antenna doesn't broadcast it's location to enemies, it relays control by line of site. An antenna broadcasts a certain range, and anyone can pick it up, friendly or not.
Maintenance is pretty hard, you could use GPS waypoints, but it's pretty pointless and not very reliable. Kamikaze though, that's another story! If the target is stationary, you can simply set a gps coordinate (there are scripts to get them from far away). There are also missile scripts that uses cameras or turrets. They can be a bit tricky to set up if you haven't used scripts before, but just put down some time and you'll get it done.
Just remember that hydrogen production has been nerfed by 75% in generators since the release update. So keep that in your mind if going with a hydro build. Keep your design ultra light or just do not bother with small hydro ships. I have built hydro fights for years and the update has basically made that impossible without using twenty+ o2/h2 generators. Battery is the best source right now for power but it requires an external source to be charged with is easier to do than building an internal source in each craft. i have never had a use for hydrogen beyond the first departure from a planet. i dont know if its just my designs, but every time i tried building anything with hydrogen thrusters it just ran out of fuel within seconds :/
@@fenchellforelle it requires a little more work in designing a system that can sustain and balance itself with enough fuel and thruster to be applicable and yet not weigh to much to be irrelevant. Now with the hydrogen production being reduced most small designs are just irrelevant.
Hold a block in your hand, look at the ship and press M. Press the button until you find a direction you're happy with. Press left click, then use N to toggle it on/off while looking at the grid (ship/station). It only works in creative, not survival.

The Gyroscope is constantly spinning, so the locations of thrusters matter only for protection... Gyro is god
What about a drone carrier, a large solar powered drone that serves as a resupply point for forward deployed combat drones.
I actually make drone/containers that are modular that I use as storage for my base / mining to rotate them out while I'm out in space, autopilot op

I use a space based control satalite the bottom is packed with laser antenna so it can cover a very large chunk of of planet survive.
Two questions: how do you get your free camera to move so quickly (3:16) and how do you move your block forward and backwards away from you (3:21) ?

You don't need a drone for that, the BuildandRepair mod will do that just fine in your base.

Doesn't need to charge. Send it to your enemy base. Send 100 of them. 1000 of them. Just keep sending them, they're not gonna be returning.
