I mean people spend their money any which way they please. If someone can buy $300 rubber Gucci slippers than I don’t see the issue with spending $1000 on a pair of custom handmade boots.
I just started my addiction to boots and currently maxed out at a pair of Nicks. I certainly see the value in these. They look incredible. Truly wearing a piece of art. Nice!
If I could afford it I would have all my footwear handmade. Maybe not sneakers, but all the rest. I think those boots look fantastic ! $900.00 is very reasonable.
I like to think of it this way, I will never be able to reasonably buy a brand new Rolls Royce or Bentley, but an automatic watch or expensive boots are luxury items I can save up for and have for myself for a very long time. They're items you can justify the price of and that will last for years while giving you that certain fizz you get from well made things. About these boots, they have a 1965 Lincoln Continental look about them, they're sinister as hell.
When you break down the cost I think those boots sound reasonable. I have seen art that is just a digital image printed on metal sell for over $2000 for a 3' by 4'
I inadvertently stated Nick’s Urban Logger was $1,000. I guess I was slightly inebriated. I was quickly corrected by another poster. I love this MYG boot. It’s rugged, different, well made and beautiful. If I could afford them I would definitely buy them. I’m a size 9 and 1/2 EEE or a 10EE. I am planning on buying Nick’s Urban Logger, just as soon as I’m able to sell my house and get a smaller house. I may even buy both Nick’s and MYG then. YOLO. Might as well live it in style.
If interest rates were at 2020 levels with property values being even close to what they are now in 2023, then I’d insider refinancing the house to afford all sorts of things like these, some Nick’s and a wood shop with what’s left. They’ll last longer than my car or house at this point probably and cause me fewer problems. lol
Those are absolutely gorgeous!!! I cannot see how someone can't LOVE them! I'm sure they're worth every penny but as of now I'm a broke college student so I'll stick with the Redwings in my closet.
If I heard right, these beautiful boots are made to fit Your feet-both of them. That's what you're paying for and it's worth it. The inner sole (footbed) is shaped to your feet which is so important for foot width and length. Good video, Carl.
Eighteen dollars an hour for skills like these is totally insane. The man deserves the money. Have you ever seen/handled any White Kloud boots from Japan? Similar aesthetic (though, I haven't seen any in leather like this) and a similar price point, also a one-man operation making extremely high-end vintage-inspired boots. I'm just curious as to how they compare, and which one is more deserving of a spot on my grail list.
I have, and White Kloud is absolutely grail-worthy. I suppose it depends on which aesthetic you like since they have their own flavor. Top notch in every way.
Might sound epic but it’s really just a novelty. The steel composition that qualifies a rail spike is pretty broad. Whereas there are specific spring steel alloys that could out-perform it as a boot shank. If it was an excellent idea, boot makers would’ve been doing it long ago.
@@shawnbottom4769 I understand and agree with that. However I don't want to max out the performance. Even as less effective, I like it. Thank you for pointing it out, that it wouldn't be as effective.

Before I saw that pair of boots I would have said I'd definitely never spend that much on a pair of boots. Realistically I can still probably say that but seeing them made me open to it. I've spent over 500 on a pair of Whites and 280 on a pair of Iron Rangers, I guess my new limit is $900, lol.
So what is meant when you say "They're limited to 25 pair"? Does it mean *He only made 25 pair?* OR does it mean *He limits 25 pairs per order?* I'm asking because I'm interested in buying a pair. But I'm sure by now 25 orders have already gone out, smh. I need clarification. Thanks in advance Carl :)
I’m on waiting list for a pair of “Drifters”. His website gives wide range of options. Once you start corresponding with Gabbard you will realize he is going to make you a satisfied customer
Interesting looking boot, especially, the toe and heel. Good luck with them. I’ll stick with my 15 year old custom White’s Farmer Rancher shell cordovans. They fit like a glove, but wear like a slipper. White’s had quality products prior to LaCrosse purchasing them. Glad to see new artisans getting spotlight time through folks like you. Keep up the good work.
@@aurtisanminer2827 The 2 additional pair I purchased leather was a much thinner weight and the thread for stitching looked visibly different. I returned both pairs, but stuck with what I had, not purchasing from a different vendor.

I think I’m gonna start saving for these. I mentioned it to my girlfriend and she didn’t absolutely loose it so that’s a good sign hahaha. I’ve got lots that I need to save for other than them to but they are exactly my style and made by someone who is a lot like me, or at least the person I hope to become. And I’ve decided I want to start looking for custom makers as much as possible with items that I will have a long time rather than buying off the rack.

They guy makes 50 pair of shoes a year so he's not raking it in ($30-$50k annually). He needs to charge that much to make a living wage. If he could increase his productivity by automating or outsourcing certain tasks he could either increase his salary or decrease his price. The consumer has to decide just how much to subsidize his "inefficiency," compared to shoe factories, balanced by the uniqueness and quality of his goods. Most of the people who think that spending $1k on a pair of shoes probably think nothing of owning 3 pair of $350 shoes, opting for quantity over quality.
Any custom boot maker can make this boot. Yes they look nice but the cost is up there and there isn’t any kind of exotic skin involved. Your video (and the previous one on $1000 boots) was one of the final selling points for me. I'll let you know if the investment was worth it as soon as I get them. A couple of follow-up points to the video: 1. His shop name has changed. As of 2020, Myg Handmade boots has become Project Kreosote. Same guy, same quality, same attitude, just a different name. 2. He no longer specifically offers the Nail Shank boots mentioned in the video. He has multiple styles available, and they esoterically carry the same personality and spirit. They may even use most of the same techniques, but for the sake of record, they are a different boot. 3. Lastly, and I stress this: BE PREPARED TO WAIT. I purchased my boots and provided measurements in October 2019. It's 2/24/2020, and my build STARTS on 3/3. I knew what I was getting myself in for, though, and this is all part of being a one-man operation. Time can"t be a factor in a decision for a pair of Myg's boots, and if it is, you need to look elsewhere. Well, hope this is of some benefit to anyone who's still curious by now. I'll follow up in a couple of months with the final verdict.
Great looking boot - $18 an hour seems a little low for building a quality product, you can basically get that working the drive up window at McDonalds. I would think he is under valuing the product but may also putting his desire to do this as a hobby into the formula. Seems worth the price
Outstanding. Is there any other brand/maker that is similar to this or comes close? My issue isn't with the cost, more with the wait time. And although I'm rather certain I'll pull the trigger on one of his styles, I'd like something in the interim, 13 ish months is a long time when you have an itch.
Great video, Carl. The MYG Handmade boots appear to be excellent and worth the $900 price tag. I'm an author. I spend a lot of time on the computer but love good casual to dress boots. I also live in Minnesota, where good boots are a must. To date, I have only bought Allen & Edmonds and Johnston & Murphy dress boots., Both are American made, which I like. I did my last book signing wearing Sullivan Street A&E dress boots ($445) and got compliments. You've now got me thinking about MYG Handmade. Thank you for introducing us to this brand.
I have a pair of Nicks on right now that are custom to my feet. They are incredible! someone once told me to always invest in things that go between you and the ground. Ive also heard it as spend money on shoes and your bed. because if you're not in one, you'll be in the other.
Id prefer mini commando lugs for this shoe for more rugged look. I still need to try out the sub $500 boots first to see if its worth the extra $$ for custom boots. Im already satisfied with my sub $300 boots like my thursdayboots, thorogoods, helm boots, redwings and higgins mill at the moment. I just bought a whites boot for my first sub $500 boot but havent recieved yet. Hopefully my search for custom boots will end when I try out white boots. Im also interested in alden and truman boots. Im glad your custom boots was perfect for you. Great video review!
Saw this video and couldn't stop thinking about it for a week. This is a work of art. Went ahead and ordered them despite $1400 price + US tax + shipping to UK + UK tax + wrath of wife + 26 month waiting list.
I've been waiting all day to watch this video. A pair of built to fit boots is something on another level. Would I buy them? Absolutely. I've spent more on guns. Will my wife be on board? Well it's one of those things you ask for forgiveness rather then permission for. Great video! Keep em coming!
im 18 right now, a broke college boy. I currently have barely enough money to buy one of these. I really want a pair of boots that I will never need to change. I want to grow old together with my boots. Do you know how long these boots can last? I’m looking for something that’ll last well over 40 years of everyday constant use. I don’t have much money so I don’t wanna throw it away on something that won’t last multiple decades.
While I agree with your idea of buying something you'll have forever, I don't think that these are a good buy at this time for you. If you were to take the purchase price of some Nail Shanks and put it into a Roth IRA, broadly speaking that money will double every 12 years when put into a good index fund. I know these are two different definitions of the word "investment" but you're a young guy, your feet will change, your style will evolve, and I can't in good conscience recommend these to you. Of course you're welcome to whatever you want, just my opinion.
Good video. How do these compare (in fit, construction and long wear comfort) to a Nicks, White's, Wesco or JK boots dress style? These boots are now going for $1400 so you bought at the right time.👍🏼
Great video and the workmanship is gorgeous. But I like a little bit dressier shoes and I found the shoes from Bruce Katz "Samuel Hubbard" is the Product name now a days the best shoes for wearing. They are made in Portugal.
You can justifiably say that these are awesome boots that are possibly worth the price, as long as you acknowledge that the use of a railroad nail/spike hammered into a shank is nothing more than a structurally unnecessary marketing gimmick that the guy can mention in the model name and drive up the price from just that feature alone.
Carl Murawski ... Exactly my point. You are paying a premium for “cool,” and there’s nothing wrong with that at all, but it should be acknowledged, especially in a video that would influence many guys’ decision to purchase or not. With that said, these boots are bad ass, and I want them. But I don’t see that they’re any more structurally sound than a Nick’s, White’s, Wesco, etc. @ around $500 to $600.
I mean people spend their money any which way they please. If someone can buy $300 rubber Gucci slippers than I don’t see the issue with spending $1000 on a pair of custom handmade boots.

$900 is £683, Viberg service boots retail around £650 here just to give an example.
Good point!!!
Incredible boots! I’d like to order a pair
They're truly outstanding and in a class of their own.
Looks like he's charging about $500.00 more per pair now.
SIMPLY AWE-STRUCKING!!!
WoW my red shoes! what about bison or textured leather? If 2 tone what may be the 2nd accent color?
he should start making outdoor boots or some good old jackboots with modern soles for better traction.
I don’t have a problem with that price at all.
I should have these boots..i already have nick's boots
Great video, when you broke down why the boots cost so much it made sense. I still hate looking at them, but I get it.
They’re all now $1850! Nope
What is the lead time running from myg?
Frankenstein's monster approves!
Like the form, the style and the quality! I do not like the leather!
Has anyone used this style boot for mountain deer or elk hunting.?
Not a fan of waxed leather but those are badass
Saw this video and couldn't stop thinking about it for a week. This is a work of art. Went ahead and ordered them despite $1400 price + US tax + shipping to UK + UK tax + wrath of wife + 26 month waiting list.
All seems reasonable except the wrath of wife, that is the highest price to pay!
750 looks like a steal of a deal compared to the cost of getting them now.
why toe and hell are smooth, are other part of boot is rough? Is this this same tyle of leather?
damn i just looked at the website you could spend all your money there!!!
Oh easily!
well, the nail and leather rub are rather gimmicky...
Those are amazing! 👍💯 I'd be terrified they wouldn't fit right.
Well that definitely depends on the measurements, but if you are careful and measure twice you’ll get a boot that fits like none other.
Bespoke is the next step , I’ve had the hardest time finding shoes or boots that fit my wide ass feet. Thanks for the vid Carl
Hahaha yeah man, Custom is the way to go with wide feet.
They now cost $1,800 roughly.
How's the engineer boots coming along. Send me the concept model size 12 ee
lol I’d love to man! If I can give anything away rest assured I will!
I've been waiting all day to watch this video. A pair of built to fit boots is something on another level. Would I buy them? Absolutely. I've spent more on guns. Will my wife be on board? Well it's one of those things you ask for forgiveness rather then permission for. Great video! Keep em coming!
My greatest fear is that my wife sells my guns for what I told her they cost! 😆
@@CarlMurawski lol I'd have to sell one or two to buy these boots lol
Bro this is unfortunately misleading, they do not have that shoe on their site for $900 but it's $1800 which makes $900 for a single shoe
This was three years ago. The company name has changed, the prices have changed, and the world is a different place.
im 18 right now, a broke college boy.
These boots are now going for $1400 so you bought at the right time.👍🏼
Snufkin’s boots so I’m gonna look into getting them
Great video and the workmanship is gorgeous. But I like a little bit dressier shoes and I found the shoes from Bruce Katz "Samuel Hubbard" is the Product name now a days the best shoes for wearing. They are made in Portugal.
Can myg donate a pair of these beautiful boots
Looks so perfect. Is there any chance to buy ?
Great review and I do love how unique and lovingly made those are. I wouldn't wear that exact model, but I do think it looks quite cool.
Well the boots would normally have a steel shank anyhow, but the fact that it’s a railroad spike is really cool and gives it a theme.
