I appreciate how much thought you put into your choices here Carl. Not everything was a heater, but they all meant something super special. While I don’t agree that loafers suck, I get they aren’t for everyone
Glad we got to share in your boot journey and I am sure you inspired a lot of boot buys over the years and helped a number of companies out. Thanks for letting us ride along.
Thanks for all you do! I have been enjoying your channel for several years now. Your content definitely relates to me as I was in the electrical trade for 10 years and currently in the retail/commercial fuel industry for 14 years. Please continue and all the best!
Love your picks as well. The patina on those Odenwalds is incredible. The GS Diesel isn’t the flashiest boot but it’s so comfortable- literally all day walkable on or off trails, and yeah you could even wear them to a wedding. Cheers man! I love loafers!
The patina on those AE boots are beautiful. Makes me think of whiskey, pipe, a comfortable old leather chair sitting by the fireplace. No idea why. It just does.
I have been wanting a pair of diesel boots and some White's MP boots for a while now. Seeing you keep them definitely makes me want them even more. Loafers Suck.
I love it. This is why I am a Carl patreon and a discord member because Carl is clearly a good person. I had never been a patreon to anyone else for more than 1 months before Carl. The discord is the best also.
I see zero issues with what you decided to keep cause that’s a killer lineup of boots! I only have a couple pairs of boots now but that’s a couple pair more than the number of loafers I own because loafers suck.
I really appreciate people like you who have in-depth reviews on boots. It's helped me not only pick out good, everyday, high qualitly boots. It's also helped me pick out work boots that best suit my daily needs. I work 10 hours a day, so a good, supportive, and durable boot is nessasary. Finding that in steel toed boots is a hassle sometimes of you're not educated in good craftmanship. But i also have to say staying within your budget is a good thing, too. So, being able to make a well-educated decision has helped me pick the most bang for my buck. Yeah, they might not check off every box on the list. But at least the boots i have will get me home and in one piece and comfortable at the end of my day.
I hope no one gives you grief, because those are thoughtful choices and they highlight your individuality which is a big part of why your channel is so, so good. This also makes me feel better about buying Grant Stone diesel boots in August. ;-) I really like them so far and can hardly wait for the natural chromexcel leather to darken like yours have. Loafers suck but your boot collection sure doesn’t.
Very kind, in more ways than one. Loafers suck is a gentlemanly way to describe fugly as all get out. & curating a collection like yours is one of the nicest problems to have I can imagine.
To be fair it's a nice and well rounded collection with different styles and not much overlap. My favorites are the Grant Stone because, as you've said, they may not look like much but damn they go with everything. And although i don't agree, loafers suck haha
I have a pair of Broadwingers that are made by 1 man up in Washington. A true craftsman who makes a stunning boot that truly looks and performs like no other
A couple of these were definitely not a surprise, but the AEs were a surprise to me! Personally I think you would benefit from a nice casual loafers but hey, you think loafers suck
I have had several pairs of AE over the years and always end up donating them. My problem with every pair was the loose grain they develop after minimal wear. Just looks cheap to me. You get grain break on all boots to an extent but AE leather is a wrinkle monster for me.
I ordered the Pullman (then Gr**ser) back in June when you did the video on it as I'd been looking for an engineer that I was confident would fit and was unique. I'm glad to hear it just wasn't a drop that would never be heard from again. Mine is still in the production queue, and worst case may be February, but I look forward to when they show up. Thanks for the original collab, and the vote of confidence you are still showing in this video.
I used to think I had wayyyy too many Carhartt jackets but now I really wish I had my old embroidered Carhartts from my first job back!! Don't get rid of anything you might regret later! More often than not I get rid of something and a few years later I wish I had it back.
Good choices! White’s Semi-dress last/fit is hard to beat so it’s no surprise you are keeping the Bounty Hunter’s. One engineer, service, cap-toe, dress, work pretty much covers it.
I was lucky enough to be able to grab the Nick's engineer boot. I can't wait to have them and see what kind of adventures we have together. Loafers suck, are words to live by!
I just bought a pair of Grant Stone Brass in kudu leather thanks to all the praises of all the boot experts. It's my first pair of high-end boots, and I'm so glad to hear that Grant Stone made your list that you will keep. My first pair has to be universally considered the best bang for your buck. I have a collection of high-end watches, so I can relate to culling. However out of the 5 boots that you picked, their features are relatively all equal compared to the variability that exists in watch types, so the fact that Grant Stone made the list is pretty cool I think.
I agree some loafers suck, but the right ones are nice for a casual look plus easy on off. I got a late start putting a rounded shoe collection together but im close to having a pair of shoes/boots for whatever event may come up. Thank Carl for helping us all Own Better, Look Better and Live Better
I just found your channel through this video, and I have to not only agree on the choice of boots, but I also agree loafers suck. I live in FL where boots aren't always economical and not much preferred over sandals, but I still love them all the same! I must own like 5 pairs that I hardly get to wear!
I Just got my 5th boot! 2 Wolverines1000 miles, Thursday vanguard, and 2 Blkbrd boots. 2 were used purchases off eBay and started me on my heritage boot journey. My point is sending on a pair of heritage boots is a great way to share why we love boots so much. Oh and loafers suck.
Carl, I think the idea of minimizing your boot collection is very admirable. I have been trying for the last couple years to keep in mind, your phrase “own less, but own better”. To be quite honest, it’s very challenging, moving towards this minimalist idea of living. My work is divided between playing music where I’m wearing dress clothing and dress shoes and even dress boots, and my other day job, which is essentially finish carpentry (I’m a luthier). I have sold a number of my cowboy boots, as well as my lace of work boots and dress shoes but it’s hard to let go. I’m always thinking of comfort. Oddly enough while playing a private function, I am noticing the footwear of the various people; a lot of loafers since it’s late summer. Years ago I tried that look and style wearing both Allen, Edmonds and Alden’s and I just did not have the arch support or comfort I would like to have had. So I have to agree with you that loafers suck!
That is the fun problem with getting new boots to often, breaking in 3 boots the same week can be hard. I wouldn't do this with loafers because loafers suck.
Loafers suck And I commend you sir for seeing you need to clean house; it’s a bonus that we know you take care of your boots so others will be getting great boots!
I need to clean house with my shoe/boot collection as well. I admire the thought that went into your choices and it's inspiring me to make a similar change. I will admit I have a few loafers in my collection too and I find most of them to be very comfortable for summer wear, so I disagree that loafers suck, but I'm leaning toward the boot world even more so I respect the opinion.
Great job thinning the herd! You picked some great ones. Thanks for your generosity! Loafers suck! The one place we disagree haha. I’ve got a pair Alden’s I picked up second hand on Ebay and plan on getting a pair from Oak Street Bootmakers. I got their camp Mocs and wear them all the time. Especially gardening!
It's awesome to hit a hard reset from time to time, I did that with all my old denim and tees that I honestly just kept but never wore and I have been very slowly rebuilding my denim collection with my new updated style and more intentional pieces. Whoever gets those Lofgrens hit the jackpot, I have been wanting a pair of engineer boots for a year now and I might go with a wesco pair but damn their lead time is insane. Also, loafer suck lol.
Loafers suck. I’m not sure if they do or not. I have not owned a pair. However Astorflex has a pair that look nice and could be my style. Thanks for your videos, I enjoy them. Not sure if we wear the same boot size, but I’m sure there are many in your collection that are be awesome.
LOAFERS SUCK. Carl, I gotta say, that give-away and the boot give-away are VERY generous of you! Now having said that, being turned down for a pair of Nailshank boots and being told to go to Brian The Bootmaker would work for me. I have a pair of Redwing Chukkas that Brian re-welted and re-soled for me. He does excellent work! I would gladly wear a pair of Brian's boots. I'm not hanging out on YT very much anymore. I drop into your videos every once in a while to smash that "LIKE" button, though. Thanks for your correspondence in the past. I hope you have a great holiday season!!! Doc
Carl, I think you convinced me to buy more than a few boots and given plenty of knowledge along the way. I can’t say that loafers suck as I’ve never worn them, but I’ll take your word for it.
Give thanks for being an example of a Boot Addict and thinning out your collection, I gotta do the same... kinda suprised your letting go of your "chunkified" Iron Rangers recrafted by Northern Republic. Topshelf collection Sir!
2 pairs of Danner Ultralight 2s (USA MADE) and some sort of Vans or similar for around the house I did this for years and leap frogged the boots every 2 days IMHO these boots were hands down the most comfortable boots straight out of the box and with time became more comfortable ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We live only once) I've bought many pairs...and dress only one...as max two, but so lovely pairs of shoes/boots, and kill it till the very end. My conclusion: buy only what you really like and will use it. Choose wisely.
I was researching some work boots and ran into your channel haven’t stopped watching. I chose the Iron Ranger probably because I didn’t know Grant Stone existed, was new to the game at the time. Just got measured for my first pair of Nicks and order is placed. Loafers suck.
i cant imagine reducing the boot collection down to five. it would be for me to severe. perhaps if i could say like the old adage if you haven't used it in a year then get rid of it. i have a huge rotation of boots and i probably wear on average six different pairs a day and each day a different lineup. it is a joy to create different wardrobes and exercise this creativity. boots for riding the motorcycle, work, frequent hikes, regular dressier events, and lounging around or weathering the rain or snow or working in the garden. I just like this collection and would regret parting with more than just a few.
It's interesting how you talk about "getting to know your boots". I had a pair of 10 hole steel toe commando sole docs for school. I got them when I was 15 and they went in the bin about 20 years later, it was like loosing a friend. Just bought some thorogoods recently which are a rare choice in the UK and I pretty much wear them exclusively now.
I feel like this video is talking to me to do the same thing in my own collection. Lots of boots I don’t wear and could certainly be put to better use with other to appreciate them. Loafers suck and I am constantly reminded why I have never owned a pair and never will.
I have been a lifelong lover of footwear, I even worked as a shoe salesman in my teens at the now defunked Track N' Trail store in the PNW. Last Christmas my wife gifted me the ability to buy my first pair of Nick's Boots. I wanted something similar to the Red Wing Iron Ranger and... I can honestly say after only having them for about a week "I love these boots!" Even during this break in period (which is happening very quickly at 10+hrs of wear a day) they are a fantastic footwear. I have had a pair of Dexter two tone loafers in the past, but loafers suck! Long live the multi-functional boot!
Ya know, I may need to grab a pair of those Grant Stone Diesel’s for when I travel. You’re right about needing one versatile boot that will work in any setting.
I am in the same situation with way too many boots. Problem is I actually like all the boots I have but have been collecting for many years. Have donated a bunch of good boots but want some money back if I let any more of them go. Guess I could let all the Red Wings go as they are the cheapest ones.....lol
Loafers suck! Love (and a little surprised!) to see the Whites in your list! Just got a pair of semi dress boots with unstructured toe for the Thunderdome and can’t wait to wear them!
Mate! Firstly, I love your videos, and appreciate all the effort you put into them blah blah blah. You already know you’re a piss ripper of a bloke. I found your channel about 6 months ago and I am the best dressed landscaper in 🇦🇺 and most importantly I’m more informed about my purchases. Love your work big fella, keep it up 👍🏼
Loafers suck, there’s a place for them in a dusty corner of my garage. Love your content!! My favorite video was the Indy wardrobe. It started my journey into boots.
I have a sneaker problem. We both dress exactly alike, including the hooded flannel you’re wearing in this video, except, I’m addicted to sneakers. Saucony, new balance, Nike all timeless shoes reworked from the 90’s.
I do this sort of thing (cutting down on inventory), but with types of bags. Camera Bags, Travel Bags, Daily carry slings. I gotta try em out myself before I can decide if I like one thing better than another. Before I settled on Camera stuff, I did that a bit too, but cameras lenses get pricy, so you have to narrow it down quick. If only I could pare down my watch collection though....
I don't blame you for keeping those Allen Edmonds, there's nothing in their lineup today that remotely compares to that pair that you have.
Actually ae has a new chukka boot that looks very similar to the odin boot
The Patton boot from Allen Edmonds is very similar to the Odenwald boot.
I appreciate how much thought you put into your choices here Carl. Not everything was a heater, but they all meant something super special. While I don’t agree that loafers suck, I get they aren’t for everyone
Very classy response my dude, well done! Be well!
Much appreciated my friend! How do you like the new gig compared to the old one?
Huh huh. He said current-ly.
Love your picks as well. The patina on those Odenwalds is incredible. The GS Diesel isn’t the flashiest boot but it’s so comfortable- literally all day walkable on or off trails, and yeah you could even wear them to a wedding. Cheers man!
I love loafers!

I have been wanting a pair of diesel boots and some White's MP boots for a while now. Seeing you keep them definitely makes me want them even more. Loafers Suck.
Loafers suck. I bought my first pair of “real boots” because of you. I saved up for a pair Nick’s. Love them.
I love it. This is why I am a Carl patreon and a discord member because Carl is clearly a good person. I had never been a patreon to anyone else for more than 1 months before Carl. The discord is the best also.
You’re too kind bro!!!
I agree loafers suck for some things, but man is it nice to have a pair or crocs (or something) or something for stepping outside real quick
I’ve been debating on selling boots just to get a better pair of work boots as is. Love what you’re offering to people, Carl.
P.s. loafers suck.
So hard to figure out the five I would keep from my collection. Mainly because I only have two so I need to buy three more pairs.
Agree on that choice as well. Versatility means so much for a boot (can be dressed up and down)
I have a pair of Broadwingers that are made by 1 man up in Washington. A true craftsman who makes a stunning boot that truly looks and performs like no other
A couple of these were definitely not a surprise, but the AEs were a surprise to me! Personally I think you would benefit from a nice casual loafers but hey, you think loafers suck
I do. I really, really do.

I'm heart broken that the tanker boot didn't make the cut! 😢 And just so you know loafers SUCK!!!
I used to think I had wayyyy too many Carhartt jackets but now I really wish I had my old embroidered Carhartts from my first job back!! Don't get rid of anything you might regret later! More often than not I get rid of something and a few years later I wish I had it back.
Thanks for making me watch a True Classics ad before this video. True Classic sucks, and Loafers suck.😁
Hahahaha I have no control over the ads! It's funny that they dont seem to care either.
Good choices! White’s Semi-dress last/fit is hard to beat so it’s no surprise you are keeping the Bounty Hunter’s.
One engineer, service, cap-toe, dress, work pretty much covers it.
Loafers suck... Boots rule!
AMEN!
I was lucky enough to be able to grab the Nick's engineer boot. I can't wait to have them and see what kind of adventures we have together.

LOVE the Odenwald! Agree for some reason they just hit right..I have gotten a lot of compliments on those..more than my Aldens, Vibergs and Trumans.
Really grateful for your input on boots. Helped avoid overspending, especially because loafers suck
I agree some loafers suck, but the right ones are nice for a casual look plus easy on off. I got a late start putting a rounded shoe collection together but im close to having a pair of shoes/boots for whatever event may come up. Thank Carl for helping us all Own Better, Look Better and Live Better

So happy to see the diesels on here! Makes me more comfortable moving forward to buying them. Loafers suck!

If you like the bounty hunters, you'll love the 350 Cutters from White's. Best "non-handmade" boot on the market IMO.
The oldenwalds are probably my favorite pair I've ever seen you wear, right up there with the Nail Shanks
That is the fun problem with getting new boots to often, breaking in 3 boots the same week can be hard. I wouldn't do this with loafers because loafers suck.
Loafers suck
And I commend you sir for seeing you need to clean house; it’s a bonus that we know you take care of your boots so others will be getting great boots!
This really validated me going with Grant Stone Diesels as my first Goodyear welt boot! It took a long time to make that decision. Loafers suck!
That pair of nail shanks is THE MOST beautiful boot i have laid my eyes on. WOW!
Kreosote does do some great work, I am impressed with his growth over the past few years. Loafers suck.
I appreciate the breadth of your boot knowledge. Always great to see new and sometimes obscure boots. Especially since loafers suck.
I have that exact pair of Odenwalds! Love them.
Also have a pair in black.
Bought them back in like 2015.
Thank you for all the great information and for your generosity. I do agree that Loafers Suck.
Loafers suck!
- The Diesels are what got me into your channel a couple of years ago and I’m glad they’re still kicking around.
Loafers suck, you’re the reason I started on my boot collecting journey, you’re the man
Loafers suck! I love that your keeping the Diesel. I have a few pairs and they are by far my favorite for being so sleek and versatile!
You have some very nice boots Carl. I still have several pairs of White’s from my smokejumping days. I agree Loafers suck.
Loafers Suck, but sometimes wearing a pair of Heydudes to let your feet heal after wearing work boots on the job from 5am until 9pm daily
I had a feeling the Diesels would make the list. Good to see!
The boot king! Love how you also find the small builders. Loafers suck
Loafers suck for hiking but I’ll be damned if my lazy ass gives them up! Slippers all day? Hell yeah
The best boots are the ones you’ll wear. Great choices!
Thank you so much for all that you do, with out all of the info and love you put into your videos, a lot of us would be lost and loafers suck
5!? That's mighty fancy of you, I have 2, my Walmart Hermann Survivor boots, and my Solovair.
We live only once)
I've bought many pairs...and dress only one...as max two, but so lovely pairs of shoes/boots, and kill it till the very end.
My conclusion: buy only what you really like and will use it.
Choose wisely.
I know how you feel, Carl. I did the same thing with loafers.
Loafers Suck. My list of boots to buys grows everytime I watch another one of your video. Thanks for all you do.
I was researching some work boots and ran into your channel haven’t stopped watching. I chose the Iron Ranger probably because I didn’t know Grant Stone existed, was new to the game at the time. Just got measured for my first pair of Nicks and order is placed.

I just like this collection and would regret parting with more than just a few.
Those Kreosote Nail Shanks look incredible. Definitely a keeper. And loafers suck.
I think 5 boots is smart. I have 6 boots and 5 shoes that are all resolable. It’s great variety and covers any situation I could be up against.
Those White's bounty hunters are absolutely awesome, and i do in fact agree that Loafers suck

He did say the Americana was the answer to the iron rangers i understand how late this is
Just from the title, I knew you were going to keep the Kreosote Nail Shanks. It's true. Loafers suck haha
Ya know, I may need to grab a pair of those Grant Stone Diesel’s for when I travel. You’re right about needing one versatile boot that will work in any setting.
I've never worn a loafer and I can be lazy at times, but loafers suck. Thanks Carl for all the wonderful videos!
Loafers suck. Love the selection and definitely appreciate wanting to have more of a connection with the boots rather than them just being one of many
Hi there, I dont think that loafers suck. I live with the environment of cold winters and hot summers so they have their place 😊
I am in the same situation with way too many boots. Problem is I actually like all the boots I have but have been collecting for many years. Have donated a bunch of good boots but want some money back if I let any more of them go. Guess I could let all the Red Wings go as they are the cheapest ones.....lol
Loafers Suck.... Thank you Carl for the videos. Look forward to them all the time.
Loafers suck! Love (and a little surprised!) to see the Whites in your list! Just got a pair of semi dress boots with unstructured toe for the Thunderdome and can’t wait to wear them!
I don't think "loafers suck" but do think you are spot on with your GS diesel boot comments.
This was one of my favorite episodes. Enjoy your channel.
I'm very impressed you are able to scale down to just 5 pairs of boots! This is very inspiring video! As always LOAFERS SUCK!
I am impressed you were able to get rid of so many great boots.
Loafers suck
Been a fan for a long time been changing my wardrobe towards spending better and living better, specially on choosing shoes because loafers suck
Loafers suck. That is a beautiful boot collection and I hope whoever gets a pair enjoys and cherishes them :)
Man those AE's are sick
I absolutely love those Nailshanks and Odenwalds, truely unique boots. But I agree, Loafers Suck!
Great video. Im relatively new to the casual boot world and, have learned a lot. Thanks for the informative videos. Loafers suck.
Damn right. Selection overload. Same with watches, and guns. Less is more. Too many options results in you only wearing 3,maybe 4 consistently.
Wow, I'm impressed by your discipline in sticking to a five boot limit and getting rid of boots like the John Lofgrens.
And yes, loafers suck.
Great video. Agree with keeping the Grant Stone. All other brands loafers suck
Thanks for all your excellent advice and information and yes I can confirm that LOAFERS SUCK.
I have too many boots, but I always need more. I do agree loafers suck.
